Morgan Newton Makes a Lovely Decision

What a crazy day for UK football. For the second time in as many weeks, Kentucky has received a commitment from a top-flight Quarterback. This time its Morgan “Dont Let the Cat Out of the Bag” Newton who picks the Cats over Florida, Clemson, Illinois and home-state Indiana and Purdue. Newton made his decision today and during the press conference showed that he may have a big of old-school British mannerisms in him by calling the whole process “delightful.” He certainly seemed happy at the press conference and we know the Cats will be as well.

During the conference he noted that he originally was looking at Louisville and came to the UK-UL game to scout out the Cards. But, he was so impressed by the team and the crowd that he ended up adding UK to the list and picking them in the end. All the more reason that it was huge when “Stevie got loose,” and further proof that Kragthorpe cost the Cards dearly.

Another huge day….we were just told by our host provider that at 10:29 (when our site went down), we had 3,400 unique visitors attempting to access this site at the same second. Dont let anyone tell you that UK cant be a football school…..

  2. father torque Says:

I’m literally at a loss for words. Rich, Joker, and company are getting it done on the recruiting front!

  3. George Washington Says:

Notice his fingers position on the football. Jaws was on MNF talking about how if you spread your pointer finger further from the others it makes for tighter spirals and more accurate passes, which happened to be one of the changes Brady Quinn made to his form in the offseason. Good to see he is ahead of the game.

What a great decision. Just like so many basketball players are going to football schools to play. Occasionally a football player goes to a basketball school. Here’s your chance to shine!! Hartline, your already on the hot seat.

  5. phc1210 Says:

3,400 Florida fans visited the site at once? 10:30 must be right between classes at UF.

  6. Joshua Says:

Did I read correctly somewhere that he will be playing on ESPN this Saturday?

Great day for UK and it’s fans. Yes it is on ESPN. Matt I agree, if anyone tells you UK is not a football school, well you can tell them where to stick it. We have arrived at the dance. This year we shine. And with these kind of recruits for a long time to come.

  10. catstillballin Says:

How many on the site total??

  11. the ghost of Bill Hicks Says:

Am I the only one who gets a sense of accomplishment when we crash the site?

  12. BLUEKAT Says:

Is anybody else having trouble working today. My head is about to

  17. UKinBham Says:

let the talk of a quarterback controversy begin now

  18. gatoferoz1 Says:

I’m more pumped about this than anybody, but gosh, I think they both are gonna be awesome and I’m honestly not sure which one will be better. I wouldn’t be suprised to see either one leading us out of the tunnel next year. Should be fun to watch. Now lets get some of the best remaining players in the country to build around them.

  19. E-townCatfan1 Says:

    This is so awesome!!

  20. Lee20ky Says:

Does anyone think that one of them could be moved to WR? Do you think Hartline would consider being moved to WR? I noticed the QB from GA that signed (Brian Adams, “summer of 69″ ha ha j/j) also played some WR, he could also play that spot. This year will be shaky with the Offense but I believe next year we could see something special…..

10 days till UofL and 55 days till Big Blue Madness, MAN I LOVE THIS TIME OF YEAR!!!!

    GO CATS!!!

  21. Careless Bear Says:

I’m a recovering Brooks basher, ive been sober for over two years now and each day keeps getting better and better.

  22. ConcreteCat Says:

Matt, This is great news, are there any other recruits Joker is ready to pluck-up. Let’s take some from Ohio State and USC’s future roster!

    CC

  23. macon_volfan Says:

so which one will be the first to transfer? You can’t have 2 ‘top flight QB’s’ in the same class and expect both to stay for 4 years….

  24. gvillecat Says:

    23. I disagree, Cam Newton, John Brantley both big time recruits came to UF after Tebow’s freshman year. Getting both guys is exactly the way the big time programs do it. Brooks and Co. gotta make sure the Mossakowski verbal sticks. Moss will likely redshirt year 1 and Newton will backup Hartline if Hart is any good at all. Now lets go get some wide-outs.

  25. meeksistheman Says:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/chat/sportsnation/rank?versionId=1&listId=16 1#topOfList

  26. macon_volfan Says:

no top tier QB wants just 1 year of eligibility. UT has had this problem several times in the last 15 or so years that I can remember. Brandon Steward and Peyton Manning, some 5* kid from Zona and Casey Clausen, Ainge and Schaffer. If they are both as good as advertised, (and I hope they are, it’s good for the SEC to only have 1 doormat) one will leave after Brook or Joker picks a starter.

  27. BLUEKAT Says:

#23, Moss has already made it perfectly clear that not only does he
not mind redshirting, he thinks it would be a very good idea. Newton
will start from day 1, no if’s and or but’s about it.

  28. Jackie Treehorn Says:

Meeksistheman, all your hard work is paying off. I see Brooks is up to #9.

  29. phc1210 Says:

Brooks has almost 2x the 1st place votes as Fulmer. UK voters on the warpath.

  30. Prince44 Says:

Is this a bigger get for UK than Mossakowski. By my research they seem to both be ranked higher depending on what rating site you look at.

  31. ReverendBlue Says:

How does this kid rank as a prospect compared to Couch when he came out of high school?

  32. jauk11 Says:

Wow, if you want to see some total disrespect for UK football read the fans comments following the Knoxville News Sentinel story on Newton’s signing. Hope their team is reading and believing, but we have to do it on the field, close isn’t enough. After reading their ignorant rants I can see why some UK fans literally hate Tennessee, Of course we all have some idiots.

  33. coachholland Says:

jauk11, a link would certainly help… I don’t see an article regarding Newton on their site.
