UPDATE: UK says not to read anything “official” into the names on the roster….right after telling everyone last week that we would know if they were eligible if the names were on the roster. UK tells the former goateed Dick Gabriel that you will know if you see them on the court. VERY LAME and unnecessary way to handle it by UK in my view. But this is the end of my “are Liggins and Galloway” eligible threads. I will assume they are as ALL my information says they are until told otherwise.

  21. AZ Blue Says:

    YES

  22. SlickRick48 Says:

So Porter and Meeks are the shortest guys on the Team at 6′3″ and 6′4″

  23. tornadoprice14 Says:

what is this about Jai Lucas anyone got any info on him???!

  24. Ryan Says:

Porter was listed at 6′2” last yr. There is no way he is 6′3!”

Stevenson is 215 now..cool! He was 199 at the end of the year last year BG said.

  25. The Truth Says:

    7. Yeah but you had to pay.

  26. The Truth Says:

    Where are the FRESHMAN Walk-ons?

  27. Ryan Says:

I also noticed Stewart listed at 225. He was 208 (think) last yr in the yearbook.

  28. NewUK Says:

yes this will be a great season

  29. veeper Says:

BREAKING NEWS —– MARK COURY IS NOT - I REPEAT - NOT ON THE ROSTER.

  30. SlickRick48 Says:

    26. Pretty sure no one was worried about either’s eligibility when SEC play started last year. No one even knew the name Galloway. Sarcasm is a very slippery thing…

  31. MarkCouryismathletic Says:

Not to be a Debbie downer, but George Goode for UofL was in the team photo
and listed on the rostor last October. He was later ruled ineligible.
Either way, hopefully these two think tanks will be able to keep their grades up.

  32. veeper Says:

And just how will we start any game this year without Coury starting — hope this isn’t an omen!!!

  33. Katfanalways Says:

Good news. Makes us a big team. Should be a hel-uv-uh year.

  34. veeper Says:

Flash Flash — rumor has it that Mark Coury is teaming up with Billy Packer to create the ultimate basketball teaching video — soon to be at a walmart near you!!

  35. IkeDaddyUK Says:

24–Humans don’t reach full bone maturity until their early 20s (sometimes as late as 25), so he could have grown.

    Yes, I am a doctor.

Yes, I do believe this is a fish story, just like you.

For all of you celebrating the fact that Coury isn’t on the roster, that doesn’t mean he’s not still a walk-on, right? (None of whom are listed.) He could still start. (I know, I’ve already smacked myself for thinking it.)

  36. veeper Says:

IkeDaddy — don’t be hard on yourself —- Coury is a star in his own mind.

  37. BillyClyde4President Says:

    Straight Wicked

  38. Matt Jones Says:

    #35….very good point

  39. veeper Says:

Another sad point —- the first roster in one hellva long time — without Mr. Wildcat. Bless him.

  40. ZW Says:

Yeah, none of the walk-ons are on there, so probably shouldn’t assume anything in regards to Coury.

  41. truBLU Says:

I like to see AJ has put on some weight. We need Carter to step it up this year and at least be able to play a few mins/game to give some fouls. Let’s hope everything I kept hearing about Porter over the summer is at least half true. I think Darius plays bigger than anyone thinks at this point and lands himself on the freshman all-SEC team.

  42. monstermash Says:

only two Kentucky boys on roster….wildness
I’m from Illinois so I’m not offended but I am a graduate on UK and this has to be the fewest number of Kentucky bred boys we’ve had. That’s why Miller was such a big get. Go Liggins Go, I’m getting a #34 jersey

  43. monstermash Says:

p.s. I want a Pilgrim update. What’s the word on how he’s been performing?

  44. wick Says:

If he stays at Kentucky, Mark Coury’s ratio of starts::minutes played will last longer than any other streak in the history of sport. That fact alone should get him into Naismith consideration, right?

  45. truBLU Says:

#43–Don’t know anything for sure but I’ve read more than 2 quotes from several people that all use the word “beast” when they describe him….Can’t be too bad right?

  46. veeper Says:

#45 — Your right as rain — Coury the beast —–oppps, wrong beast…………….

  47. mcmermaid Says:

So, we have 1 Senior graduating (Carter)
We have Hood and Vilarino coming
We are recruiting Orton, Wall and several others.

Where are the scholarships coming from?

  48. Steady Says:

Number 54- Need I say more?

  49. ransmith Says:

#47, we have one open scholarship right now. So between the open scholarship, and Carter, we have CJ and Hood both covered.

From there, maybe a plyers leaves early to the NBA, maybe one leaves, maybe one does something else. I would expect UK to add 3 to 4 players next season.

As for this season, Liggins, that is big news! He will not be the best player, but he certainly may well be the most critical, because on paper, this team’s weak point, is PG.

  50. Cobb Says:

Hey Matt, any word on LIGGINS??!?!??

  51. NoogaCat Says:

Coury left school to be the stunt double in the Napoleon Dynamite sequel…

  52. Steady Says:

#51. I heard he also landed a gig playing a 30 year old little leager???

  53. V-in-K Says:

Anyone else notice the Coury misprint at the bottom of Stewart’s page…haha Ghost of the flurry

  54. V-in-K Says:

    Coury’s name is on the roster…but misprinted…lol

  55. BIGMONEY Says:

he will be a walk on if he comes back which is why u dont see his name !

  56. JerryTownBlotter Says:

Mike Porter cant be 6′3, 6′1 tops

  57. UKBoo Says:

The team will be sporting elevator Nikes (optinal) this year, hence, the Porter 6′3″ listing.
The news all along has been skewed. It wasn’t Liggins or Galloway that needed to be cleared. It was Porter’s shoes! Now we know..

  58. KWICD Says:

I count 12 players. Does this mean there is an open scholarship?

  59. Phili5 Says:

Yea! Let the AJ Stewart reign begin! For some reason I’ve got a great feeling about that kid. Why does he get slept on so much?

  60. drpatky Says:

    link

    http://www.truebluekentucky.com/images/stories/pdfs/2008-09%20Prospect us.pdf

  61. AlphaSig332 Says:

#59 Because he hasn’t done anything yet. He talks back to a coach that won’t tolerate it, he does not understand defense, he gets lost…..maybe that’s why he gets slept on.

  62. NewWildcatOrder Says:

Perfect. Now all we need is for Orton to sign on the dotted line. Come on down big fella!

  63. truBLU Says:

#59, 61–Maybe because he “slept on” coaches first meeting last year????

  64. GoCats2010 Says:

I don’t see AJ coming back next year unless he really improves.

Mike is my height at 6′1″. We had 3 classes together last semester. We are the same height no doubt.

teams average height (sans Pilgrim): 6′5.98″ Pretty long team

  65. PrinceUK21 Says:

uk athletic dept. has stated that the roster does NOT mean that liggins/galloway are eligible/cleared. just that they signed an LOI. matt may was told you’ll know if they are on the team and eligible to play once they take the court

  66. ConcreteCat Says:

Hey the Giants won the SuperBowl, this is old news but I’m happy anyway.

  67. jrb6907 Says:

Check out this link on Vilarino. Not bad.

    http://www.draftexpress.com/article/adidas-Nations-Experience-2009-Hig h-School-Prospects-2987/

  68. Ryan Says:

Lex 18 just reported that BG said Coury is looking to transfer.

  69. SagaciousMind Says:

#61, 64, near the end of the season AJ showed a great deal of potential. He came down with some key rebounds and looks to have a nice shot. Playing against PPatt will help him with his offense and the defense part is true, he needs to work on that. Maybe that’s something else PPatt can help him work on. AJ won’t be going anywhere unless he is a total bust, but I see him being a good player in the future for the Cats. He’s definitely no Rashard Carruth or Alex Legion when it comes to attitude. He will work out. And if not, just another free scholarship.

  70. Jackie Treehorn Says:

Jared Carter is going to play like a free agent this season to try and help his draft stock.

  71. SlickRick48 Says:

Vilarino more naturally talented than Cliff Hawkins? Sounds pretty good to me. The Kid won’t be a star, but will be a very solid SEC point guard.

  72. GoCats2010 Says:

69, there will be an extra spot on the roster… If Pat doesn’t leave, AJ is the only logical transfer, that all i’m sayin. If Orton wants to come to UK, then there will be a spot made for him. Pat stays, someone else leaves, my guess AJ.

  73. WVwildcat3354 Says:

Where’s that Halsell guy (ya know, Harrellson’s friend)? I thought he was on the team now.

  74. The 5 Star Dribbler Says:

Turtle is a walk on and be listed later. I hope we have enough uniforms for all of them.

  75. WVwildcat3354 Says:

That be sad if we ran out though right lol

  76. WVwildcat3354 Says:

Is the prospectus listed somewhere online? If so where?

  77. bigblueswami Says:

    #76… see #60

  78. big blue gonad Says:

Donde esta el Coury Flurry? Estoy triste.

  79. UKFAN26 Says:

Darius Miller #1..nice, i was wonderin all summer what number he would be since Perry has #21.

  80. Japrick Says:

    42. Only two scholarship Kentucky boys. Slone, Delph, Scherbenske, and Krebs are all from the Bluegrass state. And Patterson and Pilgrim are from Huntington WV, and Cincinnati OH so they might as well be from Kentucky.
