It has been mentioned to me by a couple of people in attendance at the reception, that Chuck Smith’s quote “guaranteeing” victory over Louisville this past weekend was made in a jovial, joking manner, rather than as a serious guarantee. Context is everything in life, so we wanted to make sure to get that straight.
Carry on….

I personally think guarantees are overrated, in the sense of it being a motivation for the other team. If you need me to say I am going to beat you for you to get fired up then I think I already won.
What is a person suppose to say….why does it have to be something politically correct as to not upset the other team or person?
offend team “well I was just going to give 85% but since they GUARANTEED they were going to beat me I’m going all out”
but to say yeah we are going to win is nothing to me….they should think that. but worring about it being billboard material?
Come on.

5) I am actually glad that it rained today, because it has been really HOT lately! I know it is the middle of July, but 98 seems a lot hotter now than it did when I was a kid….

I coached with Chuck at the high school level and I know him well enough to know that he’s not dumb enough to guarantee a victory over Louisville. During our run of state championships at Boyle, he would hammer into our guys that every team with a losing record had a chance to beat our butts if we didn’t come to play.
