Remember Dale Brown? No we arent talking about the semi-crazy former LSU coach who was best known for bringing in talent and then doing nothing with it, while also passing out directly in front of me on my first trip to the media area of the SEC Tournament. No, we are talking about Dale Brown the Cat, who played for Kentucky on the 92 and 93 team and was a key ingredient to both squads. When Sean Woods hit the runner to put the Cats up 1 against Duke, Brown was the only non-Senior on the floor. And I have always thought that in 1993, if Brown hadnt gotten hurt in the 2nd half, the Cats would have beaten Michigan, as he was doing a great job on Jalen Rose (who then took off). That Dale Brown is an often-forgotten UK player who did a lot for the early Pitino teams.
Well that Dale Brown is now continuing the UK coaching tree, as he has taken over as coach for Dillard University in New Orleans. Dillard is an NAIA school in Dale’s hometown and he takes over the team as a way to reconnect with his community and get in the coaching ranks. People often think of Cats like Pelphrey, Woods and Ford, all of whom have entered the coaching profession from those early Pitino teams. But now Brown joins that list, making four guys from one Kentucky squad who are college basketball coaches. I wonder how many other teams have that achievement.
Come back around 11 or so today for a full report of the Gillispie press conference…..should be interesting….and much more throughout the day, including a report on my conversation with Jeff Goodman last night on the radio.

Jalen Rose going off in the second half was one of the main reasons I was against getting jai lucas last year. Travis Ford is the same height as Lucas and when he was up against a much taller point guard he became a liability on defense and he couldn’t get any shots off either. Anyone remember Gimel Martinez taking the last several 3 attempts in OT?

4.. It’s amazing how you can take a good looking girl and put a UK shirt on here and she becomes drop dead gorgeous. Somehow it works every time.

Dale Brown was one of those GREAT JR COLLEGE GETS!!! He played great Defense. He made few mistakes. He could shoot the ROCK! I too believe UK would have beaten Michigan had he not gotten hurt. Mashburn fouling out didn’t help either…. Congrats to Dale!
