Played like dog today and put up an 87 at Quail Chase….dont tell anyone. A guy in my group threw up a 70 today, marking his best round ever as a golfer. Last time I played Bobby Perry shot 78 from the tips at Valhalla and proclaimed it the “best I have ever played.” The lesson here….if you want to play better than you ever have in your life, play in a group against me for money. Couple of things….
— The Jules story is absurd. Saw the police and made a turn at 45 mph into a hotel parking lot? And then allegedly poured a Rum and Coke into his floorboard….good gosh Jules. As those of you have been around here may know, I have a history with Jules (have to be a REALLY old school podcast guy to know that story) that is one of my better stories of college life. I nevertheless like Jules and pull for him….but he does some ridiculous things.
— UK is trying to get Matthew Pilgrim eligible for this year by petitioning the NCAA on a “hardship” claim. No idea what the claim is or whether it will be successful, but we shall see. I saw Marc Maggard compared Pilgrim to Jamal Mashburn on a thread on TCP….someone got into the Fourth of July drinks a little soon. 
— I really like Jon Hood….a lot. Talked to a former UK player yesterday about him and he recently saw him play saying, “he is exactly what UK needs….good shooter, can score and plays smart. I think he will be a UK star.” I agree FWIW.
— The “faceless” people at Wimbledon creep me out….but I am fascinated by them.
The weekend now officially begins and I am ready. There will still be posts on here for those of you looking and I head off Sunday to the Lebron James Academy. Have a great Fourth….

you can just look at hood and tell he is going to be a star by his soph year. kind of reminds me of nick calathes but dont wont to make that comparison becuase i hate him and every thing flordia stands for

Wow, UK would be a DEEP team with Liggins qualifying and Pilgrim getting a hardship allowance to play. Both of them on the active roster might get some notice as a top 25 contender as well. But i’d almost rather be under the radar at the beginning of the season, only to SHOCK UNC at home if we open the season against then on ESPN’s opening day!

11) doesn’t seem like a reason to me. Take a year of practice behind Patterson Matthew. If he’s as good as they say he is he can really help improve Our Three ‘Sons with tough practices.

14) not sure why you have to be rude about it. I want him on the floor right away too, I was just thinking there are a lot of people transferring that would like to play next year, that reason doesn’t seem better than everyone else’s reason.

Matt, I love the site but the little slams at Marc get old. It’s called a comparison because their style of play is similar, and I know that Maggard’s not the only one that’s made that comparison. They possess similar skill sets… nothing more. Dude’s not saying Pilgrim will come in and drop 21 and 8 every night.
As far as Hood, I agree totally. The kid has exactly what Gillispie loves (length, size, shooting touch, versatility).

15) are you kidding? I am not a tennessee fan in any way but Tyler Smith transferred to be close to his dying dad(who died before the season started) to a school he had originally signed a LOI to play for. The reasons aren’t even close.

#15 and #18 Neither of you know what the circumstances might have been for Pilgrim at Hampton. Nor do I. There could be alot more to it than you think. If he is granted the ability to play this year then there must have been more to it. If not then it was probably nothing more than BCG needing some depth and size on this years team. Either way I would love to see him play this year. We will have a monster class coming in 2010 so really I don’t think we will necessarily need him then. We definitely need him now. #1 WHo care if he is going to get playing time over Josh Harrelson? Don’t you want the best players on the floor? TO me Pilgrim looks like a 3/4 Hybrid player. You could still play Ramon and Him together but you could also play Patterson, Stevenson and Him together. Gillispie loves guys that can play multiple positions.

20) I agree with you, I was just commenting on the reason I was told above which isn’t good enough. If there is more to it and he ends up playing this year I will be very happy. I also agree that I could care less if he takes all of Harrellsons’ minutes. I have seen Pilgrim play the exact same amount as I have seen Harrelson play…none. I want the best team we can get on the court. Best case scenario is they both play extremely well, compete for minutes, give Patterson some well deserved rest and we win a lot of games. Sounds good to me.

Tyler Smith may have had the best transfer reason I know. The NCAA did the right thing in letting him play.
As for Pilgrim, I hope he is a star. We shall see

I would like to see The Cats Pause do a cover with Pilgrim wearing a blue and white pilgrim outfit. He could be holding the old style pilgrim muzzle loader that looks like a trumpet, while he was getting ready to carve a gator. I really need to get into marketing.

#20 yes i wont the best players on the floor all i was saying was i dont want him to waste a year. we have josh to back up patterson and dont forget perry is going to be a monster this year mark my words. and dont forget we have the most underated player in carter lol.

#29 I think everybody will see that Pilgrim is more like a 3 than he is a 4, but if needed can play the 4 well. I guess I am trying to say that he has some perimeter skills. At least from the little I have seen and the lots I have heard. It would be nice to see him play this year because we need all the help we can get. I definitely agree though that Perry will be a beast this year. If he gets stronger the sky is the limit.

Tyler Smith transfer was a joke. When he chose Iowa over Ky. his dad was terminally ill but he chose the school further away.Plus well documented that UT and Tyler did not want each other in 06-07! Then Alford gets shit canned and the Vols start getting talked about as FF team and Tyler then wants to transfer. Pearl figures it will get them over the top and they applied for hardship. NCAA should not have done this, they should have told him he should have considered this when he committed to Iowa while knowing his dad was terminal then they should have said you need to sit the year and spend as much time with your dad as possible then suit up the next year.
