It is always great for a guy when his alma mater and his home state end up in the news, thanks to a decision in his chosen field and profession. That is why I love the story this week about the Kentucky judge who ruled that Duke football is the worst in the country….period. If you havent heard the story yet, University of Louisville sued Duke for backing out of its football contract with the school and not finding a replacement team “of equal value.” Duke argued before the judge that it was so bad at football that ANY team would suffice to be of “equal value” and thus UL had no damages….and the judge agreed. This means that we now have positive proof that no one is worse than Duke football, no matter how bad. Tell me thats not brilliant.
And yes, I do admit to having a soft spot in my heart for Duke football. While going there for law school, I couldnt make myself stomach the basketball team, but I had enough school pride to adopt and root on the football team. During my first two years there, the team went a grand total of 0-22 and then broke its losing streak by beating East Carolina at home in the first game of year three. I, along with the other 25 students at the game, helped tear down the goal posts….an event that still is one of the more ridiculous things of my life. But even I, a small fan of Duke’s gridiron feats, think this is pretty great.

A picture of Seth Davis and Duke on the same day? Wow, even I might have to take a break from looking at the site today.
In the future maybe Duke Basketball can argue to the tourney board against being seeded as a 1,2, or 3 so they won’t look so bad losing to a belmont-like team in the future.

off subject - Does anyone know what year Darius Morris is? Rivals has him as a 09 but some sites act like he is an 08.

I’m relatively new to the site, but I didn’t realize you went to Duke for law school. Very nicely done sir. And as a law school student, I laughed at that argument myself.
Also, when can the Chris Cross beatdown end and we move on to another poor schmuck? I’m worried the Castle might pull his endorsement deal if the beating continues.

Ending a 22 game losing streak sounds like a good reason to tear down a goalpost.

Sounds like they had to put a couple more horses down at Churchill Downs today. The end of the article suggests this is more commonplace than I thought.

That is hilarious. What an easy case for the Duke defendants: 0-22. Case closed.

There has been something really interesting in the UK basketball news the last week, surprised Matt and crew haven’t picked up on it, well I guess it doesn’t matter anymore bc it is now old news now.

18 - what news?
June 22nd, 2008 at 2:50 pm
#19, you probably already heard it is all over the internet (which is really surprising that Jones hasn’t picked up on it) considering the sources he has, which seem to be well connected to UK. I’m betting Jones already knows he is just waiting to find out more so he can write a good article and provide as much info and possibilites that could come from it. Quality over Quanity.
but anways, kind of old news (a week old which is old for UK Fans, lol). Orton’s dad was working the UK father/son camp.

“I, along with the other 25 students at the game, helped tear down the goal posts… an event that still is one of the more ridiculous things of my life.”
Good stuff. I like how you use the word “still” as if at some point you expect to be involved in something more ridiculous than this. Yeah, good luck with that. haha.
