In news that you may not have seen coming, Jordan Crawford is transferring from IU, according to Scout.com. I can tell you with some authority that this is a change in position for Jordan from just a few weeks ago, when he spoke to us at the Barnstorming Tour about his affinity for the new regime at IU. We shall see what he decides to do, but the floor is falling out from under IU by the minute.
Even if Jordan were to be considering UK (and I can tell you that one month ago, that wasnt a likely destination), IU may very well place restrictions on where he can go, as UK did at first with Marvin Stone a few years back and were rumored to have done with Derrick Jasper. We shall see…
Oh yeah, and Daniel Orton will be on our show, streaming from this site, at 8:15 tonight

Someone put Tom Crean on suicide watch.
June 11th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
i can’t wait to watch indiana next year….should be funny
June 11th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
Is he going to try to come to UK?
June 11th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
How many scholarship players are they down to now?
June 11th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
Jordan could run point for us.
June 11th, 2008 at 3:53 pm
UK didn’t place restrictions on Jasper. This is a FALSE report. They did ask Jasper for a max of 5 schools that they would release him to. He was given the choice to choose whatever 5 schools he wanted. It just so happened that they were all on the west coast.
June 11th, 2008 at 3:56 pm
#6 Think UK may have thrown a red flag if any had NOT been on the west coast?
June 11th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
Jasper at UNLV this weekend. Also, Gus Gilchrist could throw a monkey wrench into this whole thing as well. He has a list of 3 (WVU,UK and South Florida). 6′10 240lb 4* Centers don’t come by very often and he could play this year. Transferred to Maryland after the VT shooting. He has sat out the required time as long as he is not in the ACC. Would still need an NCAA waiver but this could be a curve ball. With the group down low, there would be no “real” need for a PG with the talented “Wing” players that BCG has assembled.
June 11th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
8.) you have to have a point guard. Name one national championship that played with all wing players???
June 11th, 2008 at 4:00 pm
None of the schools we play are even close to the west coast, that makes no sense.
June 11th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
it would be great if he came to UK
June 11th, 2008 at 4:06 pm
Matt, honest question– you say that a month ago, UK was not a likely destination. But if Jordan was so into the new staff and had no intentions of transferring… then wasn’t every school an unlikely destination? I’m just curious to know if he had mentioned other schools specifically?
June 11th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
Speaking of the barnstorming tour. Isn’t it time for some of those stories from the tour?
June 11th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
The sky really is falling in Indiana
June 11th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
PG Liggins*/Crawford/Galloway
SG Meeks/Crawford/Slone/Porter
SF Miller/Liggins/Harris/Galloway/Crawford/Stewart
PF Patterson/Stevenson/Stewart/Coury*
C Stevenson/Harrelson/Carter
Sounds like a good one to me–can you just imagine the possibilities?
June 11th, 2008 at 4:15 pm
I have told you all I can say on that #12
June 11th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
I’m not claiming to have any inside info, but I’m pretty sure many people have been all over this transfer. I remember reading about it several weeks ago on message boards. The not going anywhere thing sounds like it was just a front so he wouldn’t get pestered. Seems to have partially worked.
June 11th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
CAnTuckeeBoi–You don’t have to explain to me how important a PG is. I have been preaching this going all the way back to when everyone was questioning “why do we have so many guards”.
I want the PG, but BCG may have a master plan that none of us know about. I would not put it past him to convince everyone to become walk-on’s so he can start over on the recruiting trail. He is a mad man.
June 11th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
#17….think whatever you want on that. He has been going through workouts with IU for the past month and traveled with us on the tour for a weekend. The school year was over at that point and he would have been free to leave, but was planning on staying….something (maybe many things) obviously changed
June 11th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
Hey Matt– Where do you think he would fit in under the current situation. Good addition or wait on others. What are John Clay and Dick Gabriels take on this possible transfer?
June 11th, 2008 at 4:22 pm
wouldnt crawford would have to sit out a yr?
June 11th, 2008 at 4:23 pm
9) Louisville circa 1986.
June 11th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
20 I suggest you stay away from Dick on this post.
June 11th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
That came out wrong…
I’m just saying whether it was speculation or not, word was out he was looking to transfer. I was under the impression he would be looking elsewhere but may decide to return.
June 11th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
That was directed at 19 btw.
June 11th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
Come on down Jordan, we welcome you with open arms!
June 11th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
It would not be a smart PR move for IU to put restrictions on any of their transfers. They created this mess in the first place by hiring Sampson and then not monitoring him. I wouldn’t want to stay on that sinking ship either. A player should be allowed to transfer where he wants to in this situation.
June 11th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
u gotta think jordan is a least CONSIDERING UK for a couple reasons:
1) His brother went here, so he’s prolly heard first hand bout all the great fans, and how great the program is
2) Coach Gillispie. Billy did more for Joe’s development in 1 year than Tubby did in 3!!! I’m sure Jordan took notice of that!
But i’d be willing to bet if IU is gunna make a list of schools he can’t go, the UK will be on there for sure!!!!!!!
June 11th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
i doubt iu will put restrections on him just cause they have enof bad publicity anway
someon need to tell joe to get to work
June 11th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
#15 Crawford would have to sit out a year. So you can add Jon Hood, Pilrim and G.J. to your list. Hopefully though you wouldn’t have to take Patterson off the list because Hopefully he will stay for the ‘09 season.
Matt it makes no sense that you would say that UK was not a likely destination because by Crawfords own account he was staying a IU. Like #12 wouldn’t all schools be an unlikely destination.
June 11th, 2008 at 4:43 pm
30 and 12. All I can guess, and this IS speculation, is that he had some choice words about UK, the staff, something related to UK or a combination. So while other schools may have been unlikely, there could have been something said that makes UK a lot LESS likely were he to leave IU some day.
Of course, I could be reading into this a little too much.
June 11th, 2008 at 4:46 pm
Crawford would have to sit for a year. I bet IU will not release him to UK.
I’d rather have John Wall anyway.
June 11th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
31) that’s the way I interpret it.
June 11th, 2008 at 4:52 pm
Jordan will need to work on his driving to the basket with his head down and the ball on his hip before we can take him. I will miss that move next year.
June 11th, 2008 at 4:52 pm
Isn’t there a rule or at least there used to be that said a player could leave a school going on probation and play the next year as long as he wasn’t involved in the allegations. I think Leron Ellis and Chris Mills used this rule after leaving UK.
June 11th, 2008 at 4:52 pm
Crawford would fit in Perfectly with our scholarship situation. He would have three years of eligibility left. Therefore adding some experience to a 2010 roster that will be pretty much depleted.
1. Meeks
2. Stewart
3. Stevenson
4. Harris
5. Liggins
6. Miller
7. Galloway
8. Harrelson
9. Hood
10.Pilgrim
11.G.J.
12.Crawford
13.Patterson
2010
1.Miller
2.Liggins
3.Stewart
4.Harrelson
5.Hood
6.Pilgrim
7.G.J.
8.Ferguson
9.Ross-Miller
10.Euton
11.Patteron*
12.Crawford*
13.Player yet to be named.
If Liggins qualifies(We have to assume this point that he will) Patterson will pobably go pro. Leaving two players that could be added still to 2010 class. Crawford would fit in perfect because he is a great player and would be a junior to fit in with the youth that the 2010 team will have.
June 11th, 2008 at 4:54 pm
31,33-My thoughts exactly. Just because we love BCG, doesn’t mean Joe did. Acie Law said he hated him after the first year, but later learned to love and appreciate him. Probably because they are not used to working that hard. I know Joe was not used to it under Tubby! JMO
June 11th, 2008 at 4:55 pm
36 Meeks and Stevenson will be seniors in 2010.
June 11th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
#31 I kind of find that hard to believe after all the great things that Gillispie did for his older brother. Of course though Joe did have some trying times early in his career. So maybe it is a possibility that he did have some negative things to say about the program. Do you think he would say something negative in Front of Matt about UK, though?
June 11th, 2008 at 4:58 pm
37, 39) It might not have anything to do with Joe. Maybe he just doesn’t like Kentucky. Whose knows?
June 11th, 2008 at 4:58 pm
39-Maybe Joe didn’t, Jordan wouldn’t give a shit though.
June 11th, 2008 at 4:59 pm
At the end of the year, Joe said that he owes everything to Coach Gillispie. He said that “coach changed the way people looked at me.” He gives Gillispie all the credit for the way the UK fans loved Crawford by the end of his senior year.
June 11th, 2008 at 4:59 pm
#35 I’m Just Sayin’– YOU ARE KIDDING ME, RIGHT? The mystery package sent by Dwayne Casey was headed to Mr. Mills. I believe that would put him smack dab in the middle of it. Wouldn’t it??????????????????????????????????????????????
June 11th, 2008 at 5:01 pm
Interestingly enough he was named as one of the ones that got too many phone calls last week by Sampson’s assistant.
I wonder if that has anything to do with it…that the fact he was the only Sampson recruit left on the team.
June 11th, 2008 at 5:01 pm
http://www.idsnews.com/basketblog/?p=520
That says likely destinations are Detroit or Kentucky
June 11th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
45-that’s someone’s opinion on obvious choices…not really info
June 11th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
45) They’re just speculating. Everybody automatically thinks Kentucky, because his brother played here. Biggest thing I noticed about that article: IU has TWO returning players for next year. Yikes.
June 11th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
47-and one of them is a walk-on
June 11th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
wow here is a tough question….
which team wins more games next year? IU football team or Basketball team?
June 11th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
Mills had to sit one year at AZ
June 11th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
i bet Flurry could be the MVP for IU next year haha!!!!!
June 11th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
I would love to have Crawford, and I would think UK will have to be a player in some way… with all that said, the PG we all really want is WALL, and with the addition of one more pg he will surely cross us out… but we can’t wait and miss out on other people if a kid waits to make his decision bc in the end it probably won’t be UK for Wall.
June 11th, 2008 at 5:17 pm
Why would we want him. I mean sure he did ok this year, nothing great.
June 11th, 2008 at 5:23 pm
why in the hell is an IU advertisement on the right column? am i at the right website?
June 11th, 2008 at 5:25 pm
Matt Jones is trying to get paid!
June 11th, 2008 at 5:25 pm
#54 the ads by google are based on the most common words/phrases and puts something up accordingly.
June 11th, 2008 at 5:27 pm
Do does that mean that since that butcher add is on the other side that its total bullshit that he will come to UK?
June 11th, 2008 at 5:31 pm
he will not be wearing blue and white, you guys shouldn’t
want him anyway.
June 11th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
#38 NO they won’t be. The will be seniors in the 2009-2010 season. 2010-2011 is when Euton, Ferguson and K.C. Ross-Miller will be coming in.
June 11th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
Technically, he doesn’t have to get permission to go anywhere. The only catch is that if he doesn’t get permission to talk to the school he wants to goto, he can’t get an athletic scholarship to the school during the year he sits out. In other words, he can talk to UK whether IU likes it or not, but UK can’t give him an 08-09 scholarship to attend school; he has to pay for it, and then go on scholarship in 09-10. Pilgrim was given permission to talk to us, thus he should be on scholarship this season while he sits out. If Jordan requests permission to talk to UK, I’m not sure Crean wouldn’t allow it, but I personally doubt he comes here.
June 11th, 2008 at 5:44 pm
58 - What do you mean? Haven’t you ever been on a UK board? Every D1 transfer and recruit who asks out of an LOI is going to end up at UK.
FWIW, I read an IU board a month ago or so and one of their insiders kept insisting that though Jordan was there at the time that he wouldn’t be by the end of summer. Others were attacking him and he just kept saying stuff along the lines of, “look, attack me all you want but don’t grow too attached, he won’t be there trust me”. The guy was citing Crean doing house cleaning more than Crawford wanting to leave.
Matt, I respect what you’re saying but maybe Jordan didn’t even know what was going on. Or maybe he had to say all the right things in order for IU to cooperate if it was his call.
June 11th, 2008 at 5:46 pm
#58 SHUT UP. Nobody will be wearing blue and orange after Donovan gets picked up by the NBA. You are a disgrace to the State of Kentucky. How could you be born and raised in Kentucky and be a UF fan? U’re parents either must be traitors to or they’re absolutely sick to their stomachs.
June 11th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
#58 what the hell do you know? I’d take him anyday. Only wish his brother could have had four years under BCG, because he completely changed Joe as a player and a person!
June 11th, 2008 at 6:49 pm
57) thats funny
June 11th, 2008 at 7:04 pm
Come on Jordan we want you in Big Blue Nation!!!
Wasn’t there a picture with him in a UK shirt or something?
June 11th, 2008 at 7:40 pm
I could see Jordan not playing at UK because he doesn’t want to play in his brother’s shadow. Hope he at least considers us.
June 11th, 2008 at 8:13 pm
Is Jordan still better?
June 11th, 2008 at 9:47 pm
#60 maybe joe could start a scholorship fund and make jordan his first receipiant. I don’t think having to pay for a year would be a problem.
My thoughts are if he wants to come here we take him. A year of practice in the system will get him in great shape and he would be hungry.
June 11th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
I would love to see jordan play here at KY. And with all the love that joe has not only given to the university but towards the end the bond that he and coach gillispie have you might think that bond could run deeper and might land us his brother. Plus he can see the type of life style here at uk that his brother had and where his brother will be playing next year after the hard work he [ut in this year with coach G.
June 11th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
Serious question; Who is better….Jordan Crawford or Jasper?
June 11th, 2008 at 11:09 pm
Crawford
June 11th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
It doesn’t matter becuase really by the time jordan would be able to play if he came to KY it would be jaspers last year, and most like PP would be gone so they would both be playing at the same time. Jordan is not the immediate fix for the cats for this season, he has to red shirt
June 12th, 2008 at 2:45 am
72.Jaspers last year at Ky was last year.
June 12th, 2008 at 8:37 am
Matt, freakin’ call Jasper and ask him if he was restricted to go anywhere instead of throwing crap like that out as rumors.
June 12th, 2008 at 10:39 am
I loved Jasper but Crawford is a MUCH better player- not even close.
