According to this report on Hoops Report, the rumors and speculation surrounding Matthew Pilgrim and his transfer to Kentucky have come to fruition. The article states that Pilgrim has enrolled in summer classes at UK and has moved into Wildcat Lodge. This, of course, is all according to “sources.”
Kentucky Sports Report has also picked up this story, so an official announcement is possibly forthcoming.
It must be noted that the Hoops Report piece spelled Pilgrim’s old school “Hamton,” as in “ton of ham,” which sounds downright delicious.

i think it’s a GREAT move!!!
This guy will be able to go through a full season of BCG tough practices with his future teammates. He’ll also get to go through 2 of BCG boot camps before he even plays a single game.
That = HUGE advantage over anyone in the ‘09 class!!!!

Everyone kept saying that UK had other options or were backing off Pilgrim….all of that was false. Here is my direct quote from this morning:

There were two sources for me on Pilgrim….one Marc and one another guy. Marc turned out in this instance to be correct. I am sure it will not be the last time and I am also sure that my other guy will be correct in the future (as he has in the past) as well

It would have been fine if MM would have simply said, “It appears, from my sources, that Pilgrim is a 90% chance to become a Wildcat by the end of the week.”
“Done Deal” by weeks end made him wrong.
To be honest, I was hoping he was wrong. Granted, I will welcome Pilgrim with open arms but I think there could possibly have been better options–especially with the news of Jasper and Liggins still up in the air. Roburt would have made perfect sense as well. PG still concerns me and Pilgrim will be watching next year (albeit, learning).
I am looking for next year (and not 2009) at this point. I think we will be improved but not “World Beaters” if we don’t add some depth (which this player does not) at PG.

19. You clearly have NO HANDLE on how recruiting works at all. Matt Pilgrim and UK were a done deal on his visit. The fact that UK preferred to keep it secret is their own choice for their own reasons. I’m certainly not one to use my scouting contacts to publicly release information about ANY school when they don’t want it released. Pilgrim and UK were a done deal the day he visited and they simply were getting the paperwork done and getting him on campus before it went public.
finally, remind me in two years how much you hoped we wouldn’t get him…..ah, nevermind…you’ll never be man enough to man up….that’s clear from the posts you are making here today…lol

Matt, I’m guessing either most on here were either Just wanting to point fingers and say you were wrong, Or didn’t read this mornings blog” I on the other hand did read it this morning.
And with all of these name being thrown around in the recruiting circle, No one knows who will be signed! It’s mostly just a guess. and If I’m the one who guesses correctly, well then, YAH ME! Everyone just needs to sit back and let Gillispie do what he does best!

I personally would like Maggard better, if he wasn’t a complete douche. He has connections, and he offers free info(sometimes right/sometimes wrong). However, he probably smells his own farts, and only posts either info, or insults.

why are yall bashing people like MM??? If you all haven’t noticed the info he is giving is FREE!!!!!!!!!!! Sometimes it’s right(Pilgrim), and sometimes it’s wrong. Nobody knows for sure what the staff is going to do or who they’re gunna sign, except the staff themselves!!!! So to bash MM and others for FREE info(right or wrong) is crazy!!!!!!

33. No, Pilgrim has been “done” before Sallie really hit the radar….long before his visit was scheduled. UK wouldn’t be bringing him in if Pilgrim was taking his spot….Pilgrim had his spot done long before Sallie was invited to visit.

Sallie seems like a double edged sword. And it all depends on Liggins. If Liggins qualifies then we don’t need him, (however he seems much better than Porter). But, on the other hand, if Liggins doesn’t qualify, then I really like the possibility that he comes here. He does seem to have the swagger that UK has been longing for in their players. And he’s a combo guard which seems to be the best fit for Gillispie’s “Lead guard” position.

maybe i’ll be wrong but i don’t understand why we signed pilgrim when we are in with so many solid 09 recruits…this to me spells transfers after 08-09 to open up spots for wall, orton or favors unless vilarino preps for a year…hope pilgrim’s a stud and in bcg i trust but this dosn’t make sense to me…

40) Well, if Patrick turns in another season like last one, or gets better (particularly with a more reliable Stevenson, and also Harrelson inside, well, he may be a lotto pick. Though he likely wants to get his degree, you don’t turn down sure millions.
And Galloway is a huge questionmark, but I recall reading that he wants to go pro asap, so if he has a great season…

MARC–I will definitely man up if I am wrong (unlike yourself). The difference is that there is no way to know if I am wrong. Would you please tell me which schollie was just lost because of this addition– I mean did he take Favors schollie position? Maybe it was Walls. No way of really being able to tell if we are short. What about this year? McClintock, Sallie or someone else?????
Have to dish out the crap when people talk “Done Deal”. Kudos for it coming through but shame on you for saying it would happen by weeks end. Your creditability will take a hit the more times things don’t come true. That is all that I am saying.

49….I’ve reported that Jasper was leaning toward coming back, as well as not coming back many different times. Why? Because Jasper himself waivered many times….one day it was coming back…the next day it was not coming back……if that bothers you, go bitch at Jasper….I just post what is happening. Recently, I reported that there were some saying they thought he’d change his mind, but those close to the program didn’t think he’d be back…..
