This is my man Mel Kiper’s big day. I admit to loving everything about big Mel. I love his comments, I love his intimate knowledge of even the most obscure player and I love his hair. There is nothing like the week before the draft when you hear Kiper preach on and on about various guys who play for schools that you havent seen. Anybody can do Day 1 of the draft…and many do. But Day 2 of the Draft is all Mel…..breaking down the knowledge of all the players and where they fit in to the team’s overall scheme. I am tuning in to see where Dre’, Stevie, Keenon, Wesley, Jacob and others go. But I am staying for Mel….it is Christmas Morning in the Kiper household.
Three quick notes…
— Roderick Flemings commits to Hawaii. I have to tell you that I am a bit baffled by UK’s recruiting right now. Losing kids to Hawaii is simply unfathomable to me, great weather or not. Flemings may very well not be qualified and there is a good chance that he might not even see the court next year. But if you are going to recruit him, fly down and see him and have him all but say that he is coming to Kentucky….well you gotta get him. Some UK fans are already saying that UK didnt offer him or that Coach Gillispie wasnt interested in him due to grades (some are the same people who said two days ago that he must be assured of qualifying or Gillispie wouldnt recruit him). Neither is true. Kentucky did want him and he could have been a big-time scorer for the team. Whether this loss matters still depends on who UK ends up with and whether he qualifies….but he would have been very nice to get.
— Jodie Meeks isnt transferring. I know Dick Gabriel suggested it was happening tonight on his radio show but it (like the show itself) should be ignored. It never ceases to amaze me how mainstream media folks blast those of us in the blog/internet world for being rumor mongers, but then they never fail to produce the rumors that are so easily shown to be incorrect. Gabriel and some other mainstream folks try to act like they play on a higher plane….but quite simply, they dont….as this story shows. Brett Dawson of the Courier Journal put this rumor to rest by speaking with Jodie today, who said he was staying. Meeks has considered a transfer before, most seriously at Christmas this year. But he says this report is false and just another offseason rumor. The next time you hear Gabriel or others talk about “internet rumors”, you might remind them that internet rumors dont hold a candle to theirs when it comes to being consistently incorrect.
Seniors in Nicholasville tonight at 7 pm at East Jessamine along with Randolph Morris. We will have draft coverage all day if any UK guys go on Day 1 so stay tuned. Fun weekend ahead……

Wow. Is there a coach out there who needs a commitment more than coach G right now. Hard to understand this one although can’t really say it’s a shock anymore. Thank God we had a coaching change last year or this place would have melted down. On to Harrelson I guess. Thanks for the update Matt.

Who put the goat in there? The yellow goat I ate!
April 26th, 2008 at 2:00 am
UConn, UK, UCLA, Kansas……I’d expect Majok to ultimately sign with the Washington Generals.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:00 am
In no particular order:
-Jasper blows out his knee
-Micahel Sanchez goes to Arkansas
-Rotnei Clarke chooses Arkansas
-Legion transfers
-Patterson tears up his ankle
-Meeks misses most of the year
-Pattillo to Oklahoma
-Flemings to Hawaii
-Majok sounds like a UCONN Huskie for sure
-Harrellson will probably stay home and play for St. Louis
-Hopson to TENN
-Mr. Wildcat passes away
-Marvin Stone dies
-Liggins may not qualify
-Jasper is most likely gone
WOW!!!!!!! What’s next?????
April 26th, 2008 at 2:07 am

Adversity will only make UK stronger….be patient.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:16 am
6. If that’s the case in a couple months we’ll be on ESPN classic lifting cars and telephone poles.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:23 am
7.) You can’t do that? Odd….
April 26th, 2008 at 3:07 am
Liggins and Miller sign
Galloway signs
Patterson Has surgery
Meeks has surgery
Stevenson matures
Harris works on shooting
Sun comes up in the east
UK will be fine
Anything worth having takes hard work.

Matt, it’s always a laugh to watch you try to compare yourself to seasoned PROFESSIONAL journalists like Dick Gabriel and Jerry Tipton. Sounds like you have a huge grudge against these men for some reason. Why not show a little respect for the years and years of professional experience and training they’ve undergone? What have you done by comparison? Basically nothing, right? Incredible…

Maybe Kiper will help us to forget about recruiting for a moment. We all need a break after this run of misfortune
April 26th, 2008 at 7:25 am
#1 After reading that article I am a little sickened by the whole recruiting process with Majok. Can he not speak for himself. Who knows if these are his opinions or the opinions of his mentor. Some of these damn kids are so flaky. I hope we can get some down to earth kids like McCoy and Harrelson. The Flemings kid must be a real idiot to choose Hawaii over Kentucky in terms of basketball. He must be some kind of druggie or just isn’t very confident in his abilities. WHO KNOWS? If we get McCoy and Harrelson I will be happy. Screw Majok… They actually think that UCONN has a better chance to contend for a title than we do. They lost to San Diego in the first round and lose some players off of that team. I absolutely can’t stand UCONN. They just rub me the wrong way I guess.
April 26th, 2008 at 7:29 am
Hey #10 Why don’t you suck off, bitch. The two veteran Journalists you just mentioned are completely out of touch with reality these days. They spread rumors, hate BCG, and don’t know thier asshole from a hole in the wall. Matt Jones is great for the University of Kentucky and presents a viewpoint that is most often shared by the fans of the university. The guys you mentioned are just miserable negative bastards. Go somewhere else please.
April 26th, 2008 at 7:38 am
Hmmm….come to Kentucky and have to actually work on your defense and “attend” class or go to Hawaii and have a green light to shoot every time down the floor and lay on the beach?
Not a difficult decision for someone who already couldn’t make it at the D1 level.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:28 am
Yes, UK wanted Flemings…..but it has been known for quite some time that his academics were not in good shape…..we will be fine.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:31 am
WOW #15 I had no idea. Thanks for shedding some light on the situation. R U Sure We will be fine? How do you know this? DId you get some inside info somewhere.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:43 am
“The next time you hear Gabriel or others talk about “internet rumors”, you might remind them that internet rumors dont hold a candle to theirs when it comes to being consistently incorrect.”
So Dick Gabriel spreads more unfounded rumors than the internet?
I like your BLOG man but that is utter nonsense. Gabriel screwed this up for sure and maybe he’s done it before, but I log into sites like yours everyday and see rumor stated as fact
Come On man…There is enough misinformation for everyone to share.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:07 am
UK should never lose a recruit to Hawaii. Plain and simple. Until UK wins all the time again it will continue to happen.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:14 am
Matt, Christmas “this year”(re Meeks) hasn’t happened yet.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:43 am
who could be the recruiting guy that matt was talking about when this is the news that we get. matt i like the good recruiting news
April 26th, 2008 at 9:50 am
No inside information….the recruitment of Flemings was not a competition between UK and Hawaii….it was who can get him qualified….as it turned out, UK could not assist him in getting qualified…apparently, entrance into Hawaii is easier….look, tons of high profile programs backed off Flemings due to this issue…If Flemings would have signed with UK we would all be waiting nervously to see if he ultimately qualifies….losing Flemings to Hawaii is not because Hawaii beat us…it is because Hawaii is the only division 1 school that he can get into….simple as that. As for being fine….Coach has already signed what many think is a top 15 class NOW (Liggins, Galloway and Miller). You add 2 - 3 more guys (Harrelson, McCoy, etc.) and we will have a very nice class coming in. Not bad for a coach that has only been here a year and with the lack of recruiting being done earlier….he is still in catch up mode. Look at the 2010 class for his first monster class…It even took Pitino a good 3 - 4 years to get really going at UK with recruiting….he got Mashburn early (ala Patterson now) and then took the players that he had (The Unforgettables) and won early. It was not until 1993 or so that he started getting players that would ultimately make the 1995 - 1999 run (yes Tubby used players that were left overs from Pitino’s recruiting run…and yes Tubby should be given total credit for the championship). So, Coach will be fine and UK will be fine….I have total faith…losing a “decent” player with questionable academics at best is not a loss to me….
April 26th, 2008 at 9:53 am
..also, we will lose more prospects (Majok probably) before we start getting the ones we want….finally, I am not sure we will ever get a UNC type recruiting class with Coach G…he wants a certain type of player that is mentally tough…I think we will get Top 10 classes….but classes that will play tough defensively and mentally.

The bad thing about the mainstream media is they sell more papers for bad news than good news. There is never that light at the end of the tunnel. When something bad happens they play for all its worth. I can honestly say that I do not read the Herald Leader for my UK news and I’ve gotten the paper everyday for a long time. I come to sights like this one and the Catspause. Those guys bad mouth the “internet” when they should be working harder to put out a better product.
April 26th, 2008 at 10:55 am
Wow, a lot happens in few hours. I don’t think I will ever be able to sleep again. I can’t stand the thought of missing all this whining.
1. BCG and staff cast such a wide net that it’s hard to tell who they are serious about and who they are not.
2. If MM and coachd of Kentucky Ink say Flemings has huge academic problems, then he does.
3. MM and coachd or Kentucky Ink also say the kid’s JUCO coach has connections with Hawaii.
4. Hawaii is probably going to have to bend some rules, if not outright break them, to get Flemings qualified. Do you all want UK to do that?
5. Fleming, even if he did qualify, likely was only going to be around one season anyways, and then he was off to the NBA. He’s obviously not that intelligent due to his grade issues. So he probably would have gone ahead and hired an agent to make sure he had no chance of coming back.
You all need to get some perspective.
April 26th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
I’d say most people wouldnt pass up a chance to go live in Hawaii for free…only if they werent really interested in achieving at a high level though. Oh well, we still needs Harrellson anyway. He is move valuable in my opinion.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:16 pm
10 your a UK hating bitch…anybody that wants to diss on matt…who is a UK loving mofo…can suck off…get off the boards …you suck at life

It is hard to believe that UK Wildcat fans resort to the tactics, backstabbing and language in some of the comments left on this site..so unprofessional…what bothers me the most is it might be possible for a sought after recruit to read some of the garbage that is left on here…we need to clean it up…if you have nothing good to say…SAY NOTHING.
