It has been a LOOOONG 48 hours for me as we have crossed the state from Louisville to Lexington to Hopkinsville, back to Louisville to Pikeville and back to Louisville with the Barnstorming Tour. Lots to report a little bit later this afternoon. First two quick notes….
(1) I didnt get to see the Derby Classic but am sure I missed very little. I love the game but please dont use it as an indicator of much. Remember that Shagari Alleyne was MVP of the game and scouts were saying that Edgar Sosa was ready for the NBA after his performance a couple of years ago. One piece of news however did come from the game….Point Guard Paul McCoy from Oregon told reporters after the contest that he was leaning towards Kentucky. Interesting development.
(2) Josh Harrellson was also on campus today for his visit as well. He went to the Blue-White game, where the Turkey Hunter spotted the man who “is ready to finally shoot that free throw” walking through the stadium. He reported that he looked like quite an athlete, but was wearing jean shorts. I would call that a “push”.
The last 48 hours with the Tour has probably been one of the more interesting times of my life. Being able to interact with the players, fans, and all parts of the state has been more than fascinating. I look forward to being able to share more as we go. And as for “Hillbilly Days” with Joe, Ramel and Woo….all I can say is “wow.”

Those games are like the NBA allstar game. Very little if any true structure and no defense.

A free-for-all if you will

It depends on what kind of jean shorts. Could have been the new stylish kind, but I cant wear them do to age. I hope he didnt have on 501s, stone washed with the clunky white K-Siss, and polo from Dockers.

Matt I hope you have plans to write a book about all of this and are keeping good notes. You are playing this game right and things continue to open up for you…

When someone mentions Hillbilly Days to me, the first people I think of are Woo, Joe, & Ramel. I would have paid to film a documentary of this excursion.

Darius Miller really impressed me with a super sweet up and under move circus shot. It was interesting to see him playing with top talent and not 5′11″ skinny underclassmen.
I read something about Pitino telling one of his current recruits that he needed to work on his body language to help him get in to the pros, that sometimes he was so smooth and efficient that it looked like he was lazy. I think Darius may have the same “issue”. The couple times I saw him play in HS I was surprised at his numbers in the box score afterward. He quietly scored in the mid to high 20s and had several rebounds as well. I guess he made it look so easy that it was hard to picture him going against the real horses in college. Watching the Derby Classic, I could better see how his athleticism and skills shine with other high caliber players.

Josh Harrellson was also at Keeneland walking around with BCG and
players. He looked to be atleast 3 inches taller than Ramon Harris
and physically developed. Looked to be having a great time!!!

Wow that is great if McCoy actually said that. Would love to have him and one of the Juco forwards(Flemmings/Patillo) to create some instant offense for the Cats but I think Harrelson would greatly help Patterson inside. I guess I would be happy with any of them so let’s just wait and see.

7) that was one of my memories of Mashburn. He would always have 16-18 at the half and you would think “when did he get those?” very smooth scorers always make it look easy

since http://www.aseaofblue.com/ has a link to KSR, I figured its OK to link them here. Good article criticizing Tipton’s negative articles. Also describes Derby classic including mentions that McCoy is a heavy UK lean now.
