Jared Carter has Turf Toe

by @ 2:26 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

bbbbbbbb

According to Coach Gillispie at the press conference today, Jared Carter has turf toe. Thats right….turf toe. Only Jared Carter would get turf toe…..an injury originally conceived by football players who play on artificial turf. Yes, I know it is possible for basketball players to have the injury, but if I were to have heard that some Kentucky player had an injury that had the word “turf” in it…..Jared would have been my pick. Stuff like this just seems to happen to him. It does look however like he probably will stay….Gillispie said he may play with a traveling team overseas this summer….O Charleys is celebrating.

— According to Coach Gillispie, UK is going to get up and down the floor more next year. Maybe…the players will be more suited to that style, but I am not sure how much of that I believe….Clyde has never been a runner, which in my view is fine.

I will miss the Member. Folks are always way too hard on people who are at the end of the bench….no team in America has 13 scholarship players, all of which are good enough to play major minutes. Tubby took a flyer on the Member and it looks like it wont work. A big part of that though is that Gillispie doesnt particularly like the traditional post 7 footer….which is why I wonder what will ever happen to Jared Carter.

— I am excited about Kevin Galloway, but folks need to take a step back. One highlight video online has everyone thinking we are looking at the next Derrick Rose. If you had a video of AAU tournaments of Derrick Jasper, you would have seen similar plays. Galloway will be a good contributor and could end up being excellent. But lets not pencil him in as a starter just yet.

I must now go contend with my turf toe….

Is UK going to be able to field a competitive team next year? I’m beginning to have some doubts.

Gillispie certainly has his work cut out for him.

  2. GoCats Says:

Turf Toe?? DO they have turf under the seats on the bench?

  3. LuchaLibre Says:

What has happened since the end of the season to make you think we would be any worse off? The loss of Member? Did you think he was going to put up 10 and 5? Crawford and Bradley graduated, that was a given. I just don’t see what would have greatly altered anyone’s outlook on the season.

  4. GoCats Says:

I am excited about Galloway also, just because he is exactly the type of player Gillispie loves. Long, athletic. plays multiple positions and defends well. I look forward to an entire roster of these type of players in a couple years. Sadly, I think Jasper would fit in perfectly as well.

  5. lexslamman Says:

good lord, please jared carter LEAVE!! he’s useless.

  6. ukindianballer Says:

Turf Toe!!!!!!!!!!!! How in the world do you get turf toe sitting on the bench.
That picture has got to be the highlight of Carter’s UK career. I’m sure he got called for a foul on that play.

  7. TheGreatHardcore Says:

I am shocked.. I have never seen an O’Charley’s with turf in it…

  8. lobstersky Says:

Maybe Carter will become a European superstar this summer and STAY over there!

  9. MrBlueHead Says:

    ONIONS, from O’Charley’s are swell.

  10. TheGreatHardcore Says:

The Hooters in Lexington does have turf on their deck.. Maybe Carter has been eating too many wings and playing putt-putt. hmmmmmmmmm

  11. UKfaninAlabama Says:

Did BCG not say at one time that JC will be an excellent college player before he leaves UK? When and How? How many years does he have left? I guess if he keeps getting Med Redshirts until he is 25 or 26 years old, he may mature enough to be pretty good.

  12. King Nate Says:

What does CapitalCityCatsFan have to say about this Turf Toe situation?

  13. TheGreatHardcore Says:

If the company that CapitalCity works for (with Amanda Jones family) makes turf, I am going to smell a conspiracy…..

  14. TheGreatHardcore Says:

Turf toe is a condition of pain at the base of the big toe, located at the ball of the foot. The condition is usually caused from either jamming the toe, or pushing off repeatedly when running or jumping. The most common complaint is pain at the base of the toe, but you may also have symptoms of stiffness and swelling.

The name turf toe comes from the fact that this injury is especially common among athletes who play on artificial turf. The hard surface of artificial turf, combined with running and jumping in football and soccer, make turf toe a frequent consequence of Astroturf play.

  15. KentuckyEXCLAVE Says:

Maybe we should call it Craft Center Toe?

  16. TheGreatHardcore Says:

I think we should call it Loaded Potato soup toe..

  17. drewky Says:

    bunions.

  18. Chris Robbins Says:

    5.

Please stop posting such drivel under my old log-in. I wouldn’t want to be mistaken for you, or vice-versa.

  19. gatoferoz Says:

I’ve had turf toe and let me tell ya, it stinks and is very hard to get rid of. It is extremely painful and can happen to anybody, scrubs included. They have special ways to wrap it but it won’t go away unless you are almost not active at all.

  20. matt s Says:

Can’t say I’ll miss Williams at all. Never was good. NEver will be good. SHould have left when his buddy Dusty was kicked off.

  21. gatoferoz Says:

    completely innactive

  22. Chuck Norris Says:

    2) Now that is some funny s**t!!

I agree with Matt about the Member; he might be decent enough by his senior year to contribute, but he is not the kind of big man that Billy G wants. I wish him the best if he does transfer, maybe American still wants him–I believe that was the only other team that offered him a scholly, ¿no?

  23. JLove336 Says:

Matt, how many games did you see of Gillispie coached teams at Texas A&M, honestly?

For you to say that his teams don’t run is such an ignorant statement.

When he has the proper personnel, his teams push the ball of the defensive boards at every opportunity…the 1 probes the transition D in order to look for easy scoring opportunities and if none are there then they back it out and set up their offense.

Gillispie will not settle for bad shots…but that doesn’t mean he won’t push the ball initially to look for the best easy shot early in the clock.

We will have the personnel to do so this year, especially if Jasper stays, with 3 or 4 guys, in Liggins, Galloway, Meeks and Jasper who can grab the defensive rebound and initiate the break themselves.

  24. Serenity Now Says:

I think the best thing Carter can do for the team is graduate in four years to help those graduation numbers and ensure UK doesn’t lose any scholarships. One day we’ll look back and remind ourselves that if it wasn’t for Carter graduating on time, our 2012 recruiting class wouldn’t have been as good. That’s your potential legacy, Jared, don’t let us down. Everything he contributes beyond that is gravy.

  25. MeetyourMakersMark Says:

can someone explain the o’charleys thing please? I missed that one

  26. GoCats Says:

    25) For years Carter has been seen at Ocharleys and people have just exaggerated the joke that he goes every night.

  27. King Nate Says:

You cant go to O’Charleys with out seeing Jared Carter….it is totally annoying!!

  28. JLove336 Says:

BTW, Matt, why do you use statements that Larry Vaught made on Scout Premium boards here on your website?

Does it make it alright that you cited him?

  29. ryanfertig Says:

    JOE C HAD TURF TOE

  30. I Am Not Chris Robbins Says:

#18 - I will never be the old you again!! i PROMISE!! But if I ever am, please remind me!!!! Having said THAT, PLEASE LEAVE TODAY JARED CARTER!!!

  31. GoCats Says:

Gillispie said in his press conference we are playing Kansas state and West Virginia next year. Throw in the usual IU, UL, and UNC and that should be a pretty tough schedule.

  32. Chris Robbins Says:

    30.

    Thank you.

I support Jared Carter no matter what his decision is - the same goes for Morakinyo Williams and Derrick Jasper. If any or all of them wish to stay the University will honor their scholarships, I’m sure.

UK fans don’t turn on their players or their coaches. I don’t know what school the people insulting our team members support, but they are definitely not UK fans.

  33. jreeves5319 Says:

originally CONCEIVED — Football players invented turf toe? Don’t think so…The nickname may have come from football but the injury is just a metatarsal-phalangeal joint sprain.

  34. I Am Not Chris Robbins Says:

Carter has been a complete disaster. needs to forget bball and move on with his life.

  35. Chris Robbins Says:

    34.

His height has gotten him a good education and might allow him to escape some of the more regrettable things about his family. I’m glad he’s a member of the basketball team.

  36. I Am Not Chris Robbins Says:

    35) i’m concerned about how his basketball career has been….not how great an education he’s had. everyone has problems in their lives; but we are talking about UK basketball here and how he’s helped the team and program…this has been non-existant.

  37. I Am Not Chris Robbins Says:

man, this site goes down as much as Jaspers girlfriend.

  38. Lip Man 1 Says:

    Matt:

Nothing personal towards Williams but he simply can’t play and neither can Carter.

You’re right, normally, guys at the end of the bench aren’t expected to be stars but in this case given that Tubby couldn’t recruit a big man to save his soul in the past three / four seasons, just the fact that these two guys are even at the end of the bench in the first place says a lot, don’t you think?

These type “projects” were never around in the early years of Tubby’s reign, certainly not in Pitino’s and I can’t even recall that many under Sutton or Hall. Maybe I simply can’t remember back that far, but like I said these guys are “emblematic” of Tubby’s recruiting “skills” the past few years.

Which is why he’s now at Minnesota.

  39. big blue gonad Says:

Did Carter get turf toe before or after the splinters (and chair) were surgically removed from his butt?

  40. Splat Jones Says:

Matt you said, “I am excited about Kevin Galloway, but folks need to take a step back. One highlight video online has everyone thinking we are looking at the next Derrick Rose. If you had a video of AAU tournaments of Derrick Jasper, you would have seen similar plays.”

Great! He resembles Jasper. Take a step back???

What our team needs is depth. Injuries will happen. Galloway brings us depth that will only make our practices more competitive, thus making our team better.

The thing I take a way from the highlight video your referring to is those clips were taken from 2 games. Galloway plays 20 minutes in each due to their coach rotating 2 teams equal time. Therefore, those clips are actually from roughly 40 minutes of play. Pretty impressive set of clips for 40 minutes.

  41. Clandestine Says:

Idiots who blast our own players, starters and bench-warmers, are no fans at all. Bunch of useless fools is what you are.

  42. anton37 Says:

First of all these are KIDS who choose to come and play for UK. It would be nice if every player was a pro prospect but they’re not. A coach offered them a scholarship and they took it. You can’t blame them for living a dream and playing for one of the top programs in NCAA history. I can’t play basketball a lick but you can believe I would put an “I” in team and set on the bench if given the opportunity.

These kids would love nothing more than to be all-stars on the floor for the University of Kentucky. Some of them are simply not capable, but that doesn’t mean in their hearts that they love the program any less than a lot of people that are hoping they leave.

I’m not saying we take anyone who wants to play regardless of their skill or capabilities, but just put yourself in their shoes and think of what it would feel like if the fans of the program you loved cut you down like you were a piece of meat.

If they don’t have the skill to play at UK’s level that is one fact. The other is that they are kids who chose to play for the university and deserve a level of respect for that.

  43. BIGBLUEDAVE Says:

I love every player that wears the Blue and White!
Though some are useless in games, you gotta love the fact that those 3-4 guys that “keep the bench from floating up in the air”, put in the work, put in the heart, and put in the hurt, knowing that they will never be a star player. They just want to wear the Blue and White. Most of these guys could have gone to a small college, for free, and been a pimp, on the court and off!
So, as a born and raised Big Blue Fan, I will love ‘em all.
Anyone who can’t appreciate the effort that some of these lesser players put in, just to wear the Blue and White, can kiss my Big Blue Ass!
    GO CATS!

  44. chuckmashburn Says:

Carter will be a force next year.

  45. chuckmashburn Says:

37- are you a piece of shit or what

  46. Dave C Says:

#42, That was beautiful man. Amen, brother,,,,,,,,Carter and Williams still suck.

  47. Dave C Says:

#37, Ain’t he dating your sister?

  48. AJLucKAT Says:

Hey, it aint just Carter. I was in O’Charley’s a couple weekends ago and sitting right behind me was the one and only Andre Woodson. He made some comments about future NFL teams. Let’s just say he may only be afraid of the tigers and bears. Oh MY!
