That was the big news of the press conference. Jasper has not made a decision as of yet and is homesick, but has not yet fully decided to leave. Morakinyo is looking at a transfer for playing time issues.
Brett Dawson of the Courier Journal has this quote from Gillispie:
“He’s a little homesick right now,” Gillispie said. “He hasn’t made any kind of decision, but
we definitely need him over here. We want him. I think he’ll be a leader for our team. I think he’s going to be an All-Southeastern Conference-type player next year if he can maintain his health, and we definitely don’t need to lose him.”
I completely concur….those insinuating yesterday that he was not a needed part of the team are out of their minds. Jasper is crucial to this team’s success, especially next season. You can talk all you want about the players coming in….and I am excited about them. But none are certain to be able to replace Jasper. Getting him to stay is big.
— Gillispie apparently also addressed the Oklahoma State stuff, but the guy I spoke with didnt have the details on that….only said that he would not say he never spoke with them.
— Here are Gillispie’s comments on JUCO signee Kevin Galloway:
“I am really excited about Kevin,” said Gillispie. “He is a multi-dimensional player. He is tall, long and athletic, and he has experience. His team was considered to be the best junior college team in the country last year, even though they suffered an upset in the regional. I think he is going to give us speed. He has the ability to pass the basketball and I think he will put stats up in a lot of different areas. He’s a good shooter. He’s probably not as confident as he needs to be, but that is one of the things he will continue to work on before he gets here. I think he will be a major addition to our team.”

#3 someone being homesick has no real negative perception on a program, im sure Jasper has nothing negative to say about this staff. Lexington is quite different from Cali, especially so when you play hoops at UK.

I agree Matt, those that insinuated he wasn’t needed are crazy…you could see a big difference in the team when he was in games. And I would say he was only at 70% or less health wise

#12–Agree to a point, if these are the only possible transfers. I totally understand if Jasper is homesick. We don’t know his family situation and how he feels. That being said, don’t think for a second, given the opportunity, that another Coach would not spin it another direction to get a recruit to go to their school instead of UK.
BCG has proven that he will overcome adversity and will not waiver from his plans.

As you all seen in my postings in the other article on DJ, I hope you all get to see the REAL reason why he is transferring! Its kinda messed up and I dont really blame him. There is only one thing that can keep him at UK and its not likely to happen. He will be at UNLV and Amanda (his girlfriend) will leave the UK dance team and transfer to the UNLV cheerleading squad. Watch….you’ll see! I dont get on here to post rumors or things that I speculate. Only things I confirm are true. But I totally understand if you choose not to believe me.

Pretty much everybody is sorry to see him go, assuming he does, but one doesn’t have to be out of one’s mind to think that the team will survive just fine without him. He is a great player, and was key last year, but I disagree that he is “crucial” to our success going forward. The sky is not falling, people, we’re going to have a great team next year.

I am not playing games or making up sh!t. I just choose to respect the confidentiality of DJ and not tell his private life. He will make it public soon I am pretty sure. Right now, BCG is trying everything he can to keep DJ here. He wants him to run PG next year and be in control. But how can DJ do that when his knee is swollen bigger than a grapefruit EVERY DAY??? Hmmm….think about what I am saying…you can figure it out!

#31, basically you are insinuating that Coach Gillispie is pushing him too far and is causing him to get worse and not heal and that’s why he’s leaving. That’s what we’re figuring out. That puts alot of negative conotations out there about coach that may or not be warranted.

CapitalCityCatsFan, you say that you won’t betray confidentiality, but you’ve all but said it in your posts and in your affirmations of others’ posts: that it’s related to his knee and the staff’s refusal to let him rest it during what is supposed to be a very intense summer regimen. Assuming that’s anywhere near the reason, I would consider your statements and affirmations to be a betrayal of trust.
But, I will assume for now that you may have some inside knowledge. Does BCG’s desire to have all of his players take part in the summer activities outweigh his desire to have Jasper stay? It seems that by letting him rest, BCG would get (1) Jasper to stay at UK, and (2) a healthy Jasper in the fall. By requiring him workout this summer, BCG would cause Jasper to leave. Guess which path most (and I would hope BCG) would choose? Again, not saying you’re not right, but what’s been said so far doesn’t add up.

#41 you are right in a sense. I have said more than I should, but oh well. It’ll be alright. Its my fault if I get chewed out or made to look like a fool. Yes, you would think BCG would let him rest and have him ready. BUT, the off season is not enough time. Think of Greg Oden. Same surgery. Been sittin out all year and STILL isnt ready. DJ didnt wanna play this year. He was forced to. Not sure if you all knew that. But as of now, BCG wants DJ to play. Keep in mind too, that DJ REALLY IS HOMESICK. He has seen his mom like twice in a year. He is a momma’s boy. He also played for Lon Kruegar in AAU ball. So he has ties with UNLV…which is also near HOME. Make sense?

45, yes that does make sense. I just still don’t understand why, if what you’re saying is true, BCG would be opposed to a redshirt if that’s what it required.
Also, you now say that “DJ REALLY IS HOMESICK,” but in an earlier post, you said “… it has nothing to do with being homesick…” I assume you only said the recent comment to bolster your argument, but it’s not working. Also, you say he played AAU for Kruger…Kruger’s been in the NBA (Hawks/Knicks)2000-04 and at UNLV from 2004-present. Unless he’s been coaching AAU while UNLV head coach (doubtful under NCAA regs), that couldn’t have happened.
These aren’t attacks because I’m beginning to give some credence to what you’ve reported. Just don’t keep making comments that would reduce your credibility.

I know for a fact that Billy Clyde is going to move the UK Campus and Rupp Arena to Cali so they can keep DJ at UK. Students will be transferred free on Greyhound buses, and given $8 for starbuck and Jr mints. I also heard that Mashburn has been hired on as lead knee massage therapist and will be giving DJ’s grapefruit size knee daily rub downs with almond butter lotion. But what do I know? I’m just his bestest friends son, cousins uncle, girl friends mom of a half sister of his second cousins family tree.

Also, I just got a text from CAPITALCITY and said that Legion left because once his Mom got here, she was worried about his health and wellbeing since he was running with Turtle Man too much and while out hunting thought he might fall into MaconVols belly button. So to summarize this: CapitalCity works with Amanda Jones’ (UK danceteam, DJ’s girlfriend) family. Jasper wants a redshirt so that he can get his knee better cause after every game/practice is swells up and he can’t walk. He was turned down for the redshirt by BCG and is now wanting to transfer to UNLV because this would make him closer to home and would give him a year to heal.

CapitalCity– We are all just having a little fun at your expense. We understand the flow and situation. Thanks for the info (even though you made a few mistakes with Lon and Girlfriend etc) and I believe there is some truth to what you are saying and appreciate it.
We are all friends here so don’t take offense. Although, if I had a friend like you, I would be selective what I said. Oh, that’s right, it was Amanda’s family that spilled the beans. Nonetheless, good stuff and quite entertaining.

#118- wasnt a cover really…I said since the beginning that there was one thing that will keep him at UK. If he gets it, he’s staying. If not, he’s gone. Plain & simple. The bad part is, we might not know until the semester is over. I am not in college, so I dont know when that is exactly.

I don’t have to think about it. DJ wanted to play this year. He was pushing hard to get back so he could help his team. The staff wasn’t making him do it. He wanted to. I hope the rest of what you’ve said on here is truer than this stuff.

I have been reading the blogs on this sight for some time (a couple of years) and I thought it was time to weigh in. Often many want to belittle or put down players and couches. I wish I knew why that is? With that said, here is what I think of this situation.
First of all DJ has shown his character, heart, ability, and toughness. I do not know about the rest of you but, we should want the best for all the young men and women that give their time and often lives for our beloved Big Blue. I want DJ to do what is best for him. It has been an honer to have him, and a pleasure to watch him. The short comings in his game need only time to make him even better. He will be missed if he goes and (should be appreciated) if he stays. No matter how it turns out I will always concider him a Wildcat of the finest kind.
Remember my fellow fans, to be true fans we must be just as supportive in the bad times, as we are when things are good. Best of wishess and all my love for Derrick no matter the decission.

Thank you #124 nad #125. I think we should consider ourselves luck to be fans at this time in the Universities history. Our entire athletic program is on the up swing. Not just the basketball and football programs, but baseball, track, tennis, volley ball, and aquadic sports. My father (rest his soul) would be so happy to see us headed in the right direction

I remember hearing comments by BCG after several games and at various points during the season, that Jasper was “tough as nails” and “the toughest player he’s ever been around”. Now, this could be seen as him appreciating DJ working hard and playing through pain, and implies that DJ wanted to play. Or, it could be seen as BCG using public comments to smooth over the issue of DJ secretly being forced to play, and making an attempt to publicly show DJ that this type of sacrifice is desired and expected to continue… just some thoughts

Athletes commonly play through injury, I don’t know one that doesn’t want to play, even through the pain….It kills a true athlete to sit out and watch their team play without them, I highly doubt he was “forced” to play.

138, “That’s what he said.” True. But “twisting words” isn’t the same as “putting words in someone’s mouth”. His words were twisted to imply a meaning that was not intended. Like it or not, the point he was trying to make, however poor his choice of words were, was not what was represented by his opponents. So yes, they twisted his words to suggest he meant something which he later clarified he did not.

all I know is CCCF is a piece of crap. There’s no credible information given by this guy. Don’t buy into his bull. He knows nothing, and is getting off on the way he’s ruffled everyone’s feathers. He contradicts himself more every time he posts. He may in fact work with someone closely linked to DJ, but come on, do you really think he has an in. Reliable information is not going to go through DJ’s girl’s uncle at the water cooler at work. Just wait and see what Derrick or coach has to say about it, that’s the only place to hear reliable information.

139.) I have played sports all of my life, including football at UK. I have never seen a coach let an athlete play through an injury. Many of times I have seen an athlete play through being hurt, but never an actual injury. If the kid is still injured there is no way he should have played, if the kid was simply hurting and needed to play through it to make it better, that is a different story.

Jasper has the potential to be a “great” player at UK and I personally hope he stays. As far as Coury is concerned I think he gave his best every minute he was on the floor, what else can we ask from him? Carter, I don’t know about him, haven’t seen him play enough. This comment is in regards to Kevin Galloway and Juan Pattillo. A couple of days ago, some of you holler rats criticized me for emailing Galloway’s coach, showing some love for Galloway and Pattillo. I just thought I would share with you ladies that Coach emailed me back and said AND I QUOTE, “Thank you for the email. I’ve been coaching a long time and have never seen anything like this. Kevin and Juan both think highly of UK and the fans there are the greatest. We’ll see what we can do, go Cats.” So now criticize all you want, you can thank me when Pattillo signs.
