[Moderated by Matt Jones]

We are happy to announce today the beginning of the Kentucky Senior Barnstorming event with Ramel Bradley and Joe Crawford. These two young men had a wonderful season with the Cats and are now about to begin the next phase of their lives. However before that begins, they will be playing basketball all around the state to meet and greet the fans of the Commonwealth who may not have had a chance to see them before or who may want to see them one more time before they go.
The Kentucky barnstorming events have been a tradition in this state for some time, but have gradually decreased in the last 5-7 years due to a lack of organization. However the new Kentucky Barnstorming group is hoping to once again reinstate the tradition for years to come. Former Cat Bobby Perry and I, along with some other individuals who are working hard, are beginning the events again this year and hope to reignite the tradition once again. Along those lines, we are planning to have 10-12 events across the state, along with a couple of very special events that we will announce later. For now our schedule looks like this:
April 18 — Christian County High School, Hopkinsville, Kentucky
April 23 — Perry County Central High School, Hazard, Kentucky
April 24 — Paducah Tilghman High School, Paducah, Kentucky
April 30 — Allen County High School, Scottsville, Kentucky
May 1 — Boyd County High School, Ashland, Kentucky
May 9 — Bowling Green High School, Bowling Green, Kentucky
This is not an exhaustive list by any means. We are currently talking to high schools in Owensboro, Pikeville, Elizabethtown, Maysville and other areas around the state. We hope to have a full list of schools participating by the end of the week. If you are associated with a school and are interested in contacting us, you can email us at kentuckybarnstorming@gmail.com. Similarly, if you are interested in joining our other great sponsors with the event or having the guys come for an autograph session, feel free to email that address as well. Our website (kentuckybarnstorming.com) should be up very shortly with all the dates of the events.
At the event, Joe and Ramel will play with Bobby Perry and Woo at every event, along with a number of other players that will vary from event to event, including Jeff Sheppard, Scott Padgett, Randolph Morris and a number of other guys. At each event, the players will play against a local all-star team of former high school players from the area. At the event, the players will be available for autographs, signed basketball and t-shirts designed by the players themselves. Ramel and Joe will challenge local sharpshooters in a three point contest, Woo has made an open challenge to anyone to go one-on-one with him and there will be other events as well.
We look forward to kicking this off and beginning a great tradition in the state again.

go get em fellas; we’re proud of you
April 8th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
Told ya…
April 8th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
Lets get them to Louisville! How about asking Fairdale to host them??? I would go! Can we get Richie Farmer to play???
April 8th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
I bet Jeff Morrow could get JTown to host it.
April 8th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
3.5 million, 6 million signing bonus vs. no contract??? Which would you take. Who will be our next coach boys, that should be the topic of the day….
April 8th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
Or Scott Padget could get St X to host it
April 8th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
They did this a couple of years ago where I am from (Paris, KY), and sorry to say this but they got waxed by our former high school all stars. Of course IMHO Paris is one of the most overlooked athletic cities in the state. If the teams here ever merged they would have been a force historically (now both schools are down). When they came here they played against kids that UK overlooked like Derek Robinson (WKU), Chez Marks (Morehead st.), ALvin Sims (Ville), Clinton Sims (Boston College), and some other kids that went to K-state and berea and places like that.
I didn’t get to go but they say it is really a fun event, kinda like And-one
April 8th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
Good job Matt– its awesome that you’re dedicating so much time & effort to re-ignite some of the best “traditions” about UK basketball. Will be great publicity for the Cats and hopefully generate some renewed excitement and it can only help with recruitment of future Wildcats! Wish I was there to help!
April 8th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
P.S. the former players get a nice little kick back too I think.
April 8th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
I bet Scott County would host one. They have a nice facility.
April 8th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
I think I could beat WOO one on one!
April 8th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
Woo would smoke you like a Polish Sausage
April 8th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
Matt, you mean to tell me with your growing influence you can’t get an event scheduled in Bell Co.? Come on man!
April 8th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
Go to Frankfort…
April 8th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
I’m going without a doubt this year.
April 8th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
Randolph Morris should dominate these events, where defense and double teaming are very rare and the foul calling is about non-existent. Maybe Morris will get drafted by a Pro team and won’t have to play developmental basketball.
April 8th, 2008 at 1:00 pm
Matt, you should try to get some of the guys to visit Hillbilly Days in Pikeville. Sheppard, Riddick and other have visited and sold merchandise in past years and were very successful and popular. I think the main day is the 19th of April, but I see that 18th date in Hoptown and that would make it hard for many to attend. But I can guarantee a huge crowd in Pikeville! There’s easily 50K there that day.
April 8th, 2008 at 1:00 pm
Please get them to Louisville…anywhere!!!
April 8th, 2008 at 1:06 pm
16.) Morris can’t get drafted, he could get picked up, but as of right now he is on the New York Knickerbockers, and if Isiah Thomas stays, I would say he will still be there.
April 8th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
I vote for an event to take place in NJ
April 8th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
19) it was a joke, I don’t consider the Knicks a Professional team right now
April 8th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
How does Randolph Morris have clearance to play in this? Will his NBA season be over?
April 8th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
22) His season will be over in about 10 days
April 8th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
CORBIN!!!
April 8th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
Congrats to our boys in blue!
April 8th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
No one even bit on my Richie Farmer comment. It was a joke by the way!
April 8th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
J-town has hosted before in the past, hopefully they will again!
April 8th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
21 Gotcha thanks for clarification, now that I read a little closer i can put two and two together sorry about that
April 8th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
Please schedule an event in Owensboro or Henderson!
April 8th, 2008 at 1:52 pm
I don’t know if you have any control over this but please, Please, PLEASE figure out some other method for people to get autographs besides having to buy a t-shirt or whatever. I remember as a kid the seniors came to Allen Central. I had a basketball signed by the 2 previous senior classes, but I could not get that class to sign because if the stupid, “you have to buy an item and they will only sign that item” rule.
Now, I’m not saying for them to sign for free because they should get paid in some way. But, I’m sure they only saw a very tiny percentage of the money from the t-shirt that was sold so they would sign.
Won’t someone please think of the children!?
April 8th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
won’t someone please think of al?
April 8th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
I played in a barnstorming game a couple years ago with Stockton in Glasgow. I played with him,
Erik Daniels, and Preston LeMaster. They even let me shoot it twice! ha ha. It was a lot of fun
for me and all the guys on the other team. I think its great you are getting this going again.
April 8th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
30. Stop your whining. Money is what makes events like this happen. Buy a t-shirt cheapskate.
April 8th, 2008 at 2:16 pm
I know a guy that works in the administration office at Oklahoma St. and he’s saying there are strong rumors that Billy Gillispie will be the next coach at Ok. St. He says there will be a 5 million dollar signing bonus and that Billy Gillispie will be in town today looking at hoses.
April 8th, 2008 at 2:16 pm
houses*
April 8th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
I know a guy that went to a class once at Oklahoma St. and he’s saying there are strong rumors that John Wooden will be the next coach at Ok St.
April 8th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
I have a “strong rumor” that that guy in the admininstration oa OK State, might be a gay cowboy
April 8th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
Rumors = Billy Donavan bought a farm in Lexington, he’s UK next coach. Thanks d-bag.
April 8th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
relax folks, he’s staying put.
April 8th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
dsolzman….please tell us a joke…..please.
April 8th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
Hey guys, don’t shoot the messenger, but you will see this will come out soon. I’ve been told by my source that BCG couldn’t handle the uneducated Uk fanbase and he feels more at home in the southwest and Oklahoma St. would be a good fit for him. Rumor has enrollded his kids in school in Oklahoma.
April 8th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
has it* enrolled*
April 8th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
34–Someone might tend to believe you if you hadn’t put something so retarded like looking at houses. That would be the LAST thing BCG would do if he were headed somewhere new.
April 8th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
we were looking for a coach when we found him!!
April 8th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
Does he even have kids?
April 8th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Ryan - My source indicates that Billy Gillispie doesn’t have any children. By the way, you really should go back to reading about your Cards (TWill, E5, DC, etc.)
April 8th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
You are a moron!
April 8th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
45. no he doesn’t, at least none that we are aware of, and none that live with him.
41–Has his wife been seen checking out the local shopping scene?
April 8th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Ryan, stop wasting our time. If you are going to start a rumor, at least make it seem factual.
Billy Gillispie is divorced and I don’t even think he has kids.
April 8th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
dsolzman…please make a joke out of it….please. And post it on a video….with Kige Ramsey in the audence.
April 8th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
I don’t joke about Kentucky basketball and absurd offseason rumors. It’s beneath my dignity.
Apparently, that tool Seth Davis thinks it must be fun to break news that isn’t even news.
And the whole Roy Williams wearing a Kansas sticker shouldn’t even be debated about.
April 8th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
I imagine that T Boone Pickens looks like the Texas Millionaire character on the Simpsons. And talks like Foghorn Leghorn.
April 8th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
Does the Oklahoma State have a site like this? I know it cant be as good as this but just wondering what they are blogging about.
April 8th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
I just ventured over to OKSt’s rivals page to find their lead article to be a letter to Bill Self from himself. Interesting. Makes valid points, but it’s just bizarre. I can’t picture JDrum writing something like this for TCP.
http://oklahomastate.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=795147
April 8th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
Why am I watching ESPN and they are talking about Billy G leaving for Oklahoma State, please tell me this isnt true..
April 8th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
55. Because BCG is leaving for Oklahoma St. You will see…it will come out. Done deal.
April 8th, 2008 at 3:19 pm
Hopefully Barnhart will be able to get Ford Or Pelphrey now that BCG is going to Ok St.
April 8th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
I’m hoping Billy stays in Lexington for a long time, wins a championship or more and our fans ease up on all the ridiculousness very soon.
If Billy G leaves for OK St we as a fan base better pray that either Pelphrey or Ford can take over and bring us back to glory. No coach in his right mind without KY ties would want to put up with the bullshit that BCG had to put up with for much of this season on and off the court and the radical fans won’t change for outsiders but might for KY boys. Him leaving would be a tremendous blow to UK in all aspects.
April 8th, 2008 at 3:32 pm
GUYS QUIT ACTING LIKE GIRLS. IF HE LEAVES HE LEAVES. HOWS IT GO. “THEY ARE KENTUCKY, THEY WERE HERE BEFORE YOU, THEY WERE HERE DURING YOU, AND THEY WILL BE HERE AFTER YOU.” -IDONTKNOW ITS SOMETHING LIKE THAT, AND THATS THE WAY WE SHOULD FEEL ABOUT BCG. IF HE GOES HE GOES. OHH WELL.
I DONT THINK PELPHREY OR FORD WILL BE THE NEXT COACH, BUT I’VE BEEN WRONG ONCE OR TWICE. NEITHER ONE IS VERY PROVEN, BUT NEITHER WAS GILLISPIE.
April 8th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
I think Bill Self is tops on the OK State list. He’s said that he won’t rule them out because that’s his alma mater, plus he’s going to try and play this out into a huge payday. The guy can’t lose at this point. Either Kansas pays or OK State does. If Self doesn’t go, then I think BCG is the next choice.
April 8th, 2008 at 3:40 pm
I honestly do NOT think there has been an announcement. If and when it happens then we can start the conversation. Until then, lets stop please!
April 8th, 2008 at 3:40 pm
um 60 we already know that.
April 8th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
Hazard to Paducah? Awesome! Logistically speaking, of course.
April 8th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
MAYBE IF I TYPE IN ALL CAPS PEOPLE WILL LISTEN TO WHAT I SAY
April 8th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
If BCG really thinks OSU is better fit than UK, then UK is better off without him (similar to Tubby)
However, I don’t think he will go there. He knows he can be legend here and he is recruiting his guts out.
April 8th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
64.) I TYPE IN ALL CAPS B/C I AM REQUIRED TO AT WORK, BUT MAYBE IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA FOR SOMEONE WHO REALLY DOES NOT MAKE GOOD POINTS…..HINTHINTHINTHINT
April 8th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
This is all being discussed thanks to Ryan, a 14-year old Louisville fan who is getting his kicks. Ryan has “information” that that would be smoking hot AP news but has chosen to tell a blog.
April 8th, 2008 at 3:56 pm
66 - The all caps requirement start today?
Not sure why you argue that BCG leaving would not be a big deal. Not many coaches in the country could have done what he did this year with this team. Anytime you are talking about losing the SEC coach of the year it is a big deal. You can’t just throw any coach into UK and have them be successful. Having to go through another year with another new coach would be bad for the program.
With that said…i think there is no chance he leaves.
April 8th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
68. See 28. The all caps rule began today at some point between 2 and 3:30. Oddly enough, my boss has just requested everything we post on blogs must be in Helvitica, 8 font, italics.
April 8th, 2008 at 4:01 pm
I just heard from a sort of reliable source that BCG called OK ST. officials and told them take your money and shove it up you A$$! Im at Kentucky to win National Championships and to bring this great program with deep tradition back to the giant it once was. No further comment.
April 8th, 2008 at 4:03 pm
69 - nice
April 8th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
70 -
April 8th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
68.)HAHAHA LIKE BCG AND WHAT HE DID BUT U R TELLING ME THAT NOT MANY COACHES COULD HAVE GONE 18-13 WITH THIS TEAM? YOU ARE CRAZY …. HE SPENT THE FIRST HALF OF THE SEASON SITTING OUR BEST PLAYERS TO PROVE A POINT AND WHAT DID IT GET US 7-9. HE SPENT THE SECOND HALF OF THE SEASON STARTING OUR BEST PLAYERS WHAT DID IT GET US??? 11-4. NOT TO MENTION HE SPENT THE WHOLE SEASON STARTING OUR WORSE PLAYER.
NOW I THINK WHAT HE DID WILL PAY OFF IN THE LONG RUN BUT AS FOR THIS SEASON, MANY COACHES COULD HAVE TAKEN THIS TEAM TO AN 18-13 RECORD WHILE GETTING BEAT OUT OF THE CONFERENCE TOURNEY IN THE SECOND ROUND, AND THE NCAA IN THE FIRST.
UK BASKETBALL WILL MAKE BILLY G. NOT VICE VERSA, AND THAT IS MY POINT.
April 8th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
69.) I CAN TURN THEM OFF ITS JUST EASIER TO LEAVE THEM ON …. THANKS FOR YOUR HUMOR THOUGH IT HAS APPARENTLY MADE NJCAT’S DAY, AND MAYBE HIM A LITTLE BRIGHTER
April 8th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
My point is that no coach in the country could have won the championship this year with this team. What BCG has done is help with the development of each player on this team and getting them familiar with the style of play he is going to have them play for the next few years while they are at UK. You bring in another new coach and the step forward we took this year is offset by another 3 steps back. If you can point out a coach that would have brought home a championship this year then I will agree with your point.
April 8th, 2008 at 4:15 pm
75.) I CANT FIND ANYWHERE IN 68.) WHERE YOU REFERENCED A NATL CHAMPIONSHIP, CAN YOU HELP?
NOPE YOU SAID NOT MANY COACHES COULD HAVE DONE WHAT HE DID, AND THATS FALSE, THE OLD COACH FOR ONE COULD HAVE DONE WHAT HE DID AND PROBABLY MORE, ALONG WITH ABOUT 30 OTHER COACHES OUT THERE. IT WAS A MEDIOCRE AT BEST YEAR TRADEMARKED BY A GREAT TURNAROUND, LETS NOT MAKE IT OUT TO BE SOMETHING HISTORIC HERE.
PLEASE NOTE THAT I LIKE BCG, AND I THINK HE CAN WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS, I JUST WANT MORE BEFORE I GET THE HYPE EVERYONE ELSE IS GIVING HIM, RIGHT NOW HE HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING TOO SPECIAL TO REPLACE.
April 8th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
Wow I remember them doin this a long time ago. I remember they came to my county high school when Andre Riddick and Chris Harrison were seniors. Jeff Brassow showed up a long with Kenny Walker. I remember it was pretty awesome.
April 8th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
76 - the old coach would not have beaten Vandy or Tenn because those were ranked teams. But I do believe the old coach would not have lost to GW, but maybe San Diego.
April 8th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
I just think it is too short sighted to judge him soley based on his record during this season. You are basing your arguement on one year. Hell you’re right…you probably could have brought in half the coaches in the country and we could have had a similar record this year. You bring in a coach for what he can do for the program in the short and long term.
April 8th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
78.) I AGREE TO DISAGREE BUT I GET YOUR POINT, AND I DON’T THINK GILLISPIE WOULD HAVE LOST TO GW OR SAN DIEGO EITHER HAD HE NOT BEEN TRYING TO PROVE A POINT. A POINT THAT I (FOR ONE) NEVER REALLY GOT.
April 8th, 2008 at 4:22 pm
79.) NOW IM STARTING TO AGREE WITH YOU……BCG WILL DEF. BE GOOD FOR THE LONG RUN, BUT I THINK THERE ARE OTHER COACHES OUT THERE THAT COULD DO JUST AS GOOD FOR OUR PROGRAM IF HE CHOOSES TO GO ELSEWHERE.
April 8th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
i never read anything in all caps. no posts and not even the first letter in any word beginning a sentence. ironic i know, just my thing.
April 8th, 2008 at 4:26 pm
Are there really though? I don’t remember too many guys coming forward last year. We got turned down by Billy D and Rick Barnes (thank god). Other than bringing in Pelphrey or Ford I don’t see any coach out there that would get people excited.
April 8th, 2008 at 4:27 pm
pooptooth
April 8th, 2008 at 4:27 pm
THATS FUNNY 82.) YOU WRITE WITH CAPITAL LETTERS (50.) BUT YOU DONT READ CAPITAL LETTERS??
April 8th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
Coach Pooptooth
April 8th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
ANY COACH THAT COMES HERE WILL GET PEOPLE EXCITED.
April 8th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
If Rick Barnes would have been named the coach here last year I would have been far from excited
April 8th, 2008 at 4:35 pm
IM SURE SOME WERE DISAPPOINTED WHEN BCG WAS ANNOUNCED TOO
April 8th, 2008 at 4:38 pm
That’s true…someone will always be unhappy. I just hope BCG stays…he seems like a perfect fit
April 8th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
I THINK HE FITS NICE HERE TOO, AND I THINK ITS TOO EARLY TO CALL IN A FORD OR PELPHREY, THEY HAVE NOT HAD TO DO ANY BIG TIME RECRUITING YET.
April 8th, 2008 at 4:55 pm
Actually, I’m 22 and am NOT a UL fan. Just for the record..haha
April 8th, 2008 at 5:13 pm
How about making sure they barnstorm the classroom and get their degrees so we can stay on top of the graduation thingy.
April 8th, 2008 at 5:45 pm
92) 22 going on 10 just like Big Shaun!
April 8th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
Tubby was barely doing better than 18-13 and he had his full compliment of players. He had more than 10 losses for several years with better talent. Could you imagine what UK would have been like with Morris, Bradley and Crawford? BCG could have done some damage, all Tubby did was get a 9 seed.
April 8th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
80 So you never got the point? Did you not see a change in Joe Crawford from last year and the first of the season to the end of this season? If not then my friend you don’t know basketball. It’s called breaking them down and then building them back up. Geez….
April 8th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
#93 - that was my first thought too. How are they going to go to classes and finish their degrees if they are out and about throughout the state of Kentucky? This would make more sense as a summer thing - unless they have already fulfilled their graduation requirements OR all their courses are independent study (e.g. basketweaving II via the internet).
April 8th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
#17 That is a great idea. Hillbilly Days in Pikeville draws a huge crowd and is a family oriented event. Don’t even have to mention that it is now the home of the East Ky Miners basketball team and is concentrated with as many dedicated UK fans as anyplace in the state.
The only problem is it is next weekend, April 17th - 19th and it may be too little time to schedule.
http://www.hillbillydays.com/
April 8th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
33. STFU and stop being a prick. Did I say not to pay them? Read again fool.
And if you think they’re seeing a lot of money out of the merchandise that’s sold, you’re sadly mistaken. You need a real world lesson to wipe the smugness from your words.
April 8th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
There aren’t many coaches that could have accomplished what BCG did this year. Why do you think that Tubby left, he knew he was screwed. BCG had to deal with a lot of injuries at the beginning of the season and Joe took a long time to get to 100%. BCG is not going anywhere, he loves basketball and so does Kentucky. It’s only a matter of time before he realizes how good of a fit it really is. He’s not going to a football school.
April 8th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
I may end up being a complete fool but Billy Clyde seems to ME to be the type of person who still believes in tradition and the fans, of which UK is second to none. I never had any doubts a few weeks ago that he would be our coach for years to come, and after the passing of Mr. Keightley I can’t doubt that it has became more evident to BCG that he is in the right place. He wants to be a part of the fabric of basketball history and he is in the place to do it and have the fans love him for it.
OKST may have the money of a well oiled company behind them but they cannot offer what Gillispie needs to be happy.
April 8th, 2008 at 10:17 pm
just in, gillispie to stay @ uk
April 8th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
You guys need to come to Laurel County. Matt.. call/email the South Laurel County Athletic Director. Bring it down here if you can man!!!
April 8th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
So why would Coach go to OSU?
April 8th, 2008 at 11:12 pm
idk i think its stupid for him to even consider it heck far hes at the penicle of college basketball who cares if weve been a lil down the past 3 season it took clyde 1 yr to fix what it took tubbs 10 yrs to !$%& up
