April 4th, 2008 at 11:44 am
I can’t hear a thing on these videos hardly. Matt, can you find a way to make them louder?

Bill scored me and my friend a free UK shirt at the opening of the Craft Center.

great…now I’m balling at work. I agree Matt, Pitino deserves alot of respect and admiration. Despite his decision to go to Louisville he will always be a part of UK.

I never hated Pitino, i actually appreciated his love for the state of Kentucky. we werent ready to drain the Tub at the time, so what choice did he have? Lovem or hatem, UofL is a good coaching job.
i hope he won back some old friends with that excellent speech.

I was doing ok until Jeff Sheppard spoke. wow. what a tribute to the greatest uk fan ever. wished i could have been there.

I noticed Billy Donovan in the crowd and was that Rick Stansbury there also? Nice gesture for billy donovan to be there. Heard tubby had plane issues leaving minnesota. would like to have heard his tribute as well.

Pitino’s speech was definitely the highlight of the service, along with Billy and Jeff Sheppard. I have always harbored ill will towards Pitino, but that is all over now. You can tell that he loves this state, and that UK still has a big place in his heart. I especially liked his story about Keightley trying to keep him from getting a technical, and how he said he will take a sip of bourbon for Mr. Wildcat even though he can’t stand bourbon. I think the time to hate Pitino has passed, and that the Big Blue Nation should once again embrace Pitino for everything he did wiht this program. I for one will give Ricky a standing ovation next time his Cards come to Rupp, but I still don’t like the Ville.

yea, billy donovan was there along with rick stansbury. tubby was on the runway but his plane wasnt allowed to take off and got sent back to the hanger and tubby couldnt get another flight

i don’t why we would all choose to rank who gave the best eulogy, but i know that joe b’s, billy’s and pitino’s choked me up the most.

I had forgotten what a magical time the 90’s were at UK. Pitino was an awesome coach, Cawood was a great radio announcer and Keightly represented the fans’ passion for Kentucky. I will no longer be resentful of Pitino and he needs to take his rightful position as a Kentucky legend. I still want to beat Louisville.
April 4th, 2008 at 12:56 pm
P.S. I also want to acknowledge the most under appreciated coach at UK, Joe B. Hall. Followed a legend and brought Kentucky into the modern age of NCAA basketball.

I thought the best two lines of the night were by Pitino (Cawood was the soul, Mr. Wildcat was the heart) and Jeff Sheppard (thanks for being prepared for those of us that were unprepared)

Anyone else have trouble with the sound? I am cranked wide open and can’t hear even with laying my ear on the speaker. Any help?
April 4th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
Awesome stuff all around. Thanks for posting.

I especially liked how Pitino emphasized on how Keightley approved of him going to UL, so everyone else is morally obligated to do do as well. And the part about Keightley wanting a UL championship ring was heartwarming as well. How can a Kentucky fan not love the Louisville coach, regardless of what he says and does to talk down about UK and its fans (as he does, regularly)? The Louisville fans sure don’t love us…and that’s okay, so long as we love rick unconditionally, forever. After his speech yesterday I finally “get it.”

14- you should add “by paying his players”

If I become a character on the Twilight Zone and Pitino ever calls me a friend, I hope I die before he dies!

The video links don’t show up on my page (just the image placeholder) even when I hit refresh. Is there another way or site to access the links. Thanks…

Pitino is a very smart man and always prepared for anything. One things I like though about Gillispie is the fact that he speaks straight from his heart. No he isn’t a gifted speaker but what he has to say comes directly from his heart. Our coach has a huge heart and I think he will be great for the university for years to come. In Kentucky we aren’t about being prepared or articulate as fans. We are all about heart and passion. We speak about our CATS straight from the heart and we sure love our basketball. I’m glad we have a leader who speaks straight from the heart and is so passionate about the game of basketball. There is no way he goes to OK St. GO CATS, BABY.

Too bad that Tubby couldn’t have been there. I agree too for major props to Donovan and Stansbury for coming.
