[Moderated by Matt Jones]

I mean, you saw the performance out there, and he put his heart out there on the floor,” Dominic James said. “So out of respect for him and his teammates, I just told him to keep his head up and keep playing the game that he loves.”
Boy how things change. Two years ago, most Kentucky fans saw Ramel Bradley as too cocky and Joe Crawford as not having enough heart to be embraced by the UK fanbase. Now, in a BW3s in the middle of Louisville, I saw more than one grown man cry as both young men’s careers came to an end. Today’s game in many ways symbolized the season….the Cats gave it their all against a quality opponent, but came up a little short due t0 a lack of players caused unfortunate injuries (how good is this team with Patterson and Meeks?). The Cats had too many turnovers, too many missed defensive rebounds and too many uninhibited drives to the basket allowed to beat a team of Marquette’s caliber in the NCAA Tournament. You cant be upset at the outcome, as the team gave it their all….but it doesnt make it any easier to swallow either.
However the game itself is not really the story tonight. In fact, in many ways the game is just a secondary notion to what we will all remember from NCAA Tournament 2008. That image at the end of the game of Joe Crawford crying into a towel will always be one that sticks in my Kentucky memory bank. A guy who many believed cared too little and who all too often was criticized by fans expecting too much, ended up putting together the game of his life…..35 points, carrying his team on his back and putting his entire body on the line to get the win. He fouled out as the clock ran out and was so taken with emotion that he began crying….a scene that apparently was repeated in the locker room. He left so much on the court that the OTHER TEAM’s players wanted to console him and show their appreciation. The kid who tried to transfer after his Freshman year brought about one of the greatest displays of emotion of any Kentucky player in recent years…..a fact none of us would have imagined, but we will all remember.
Ramel Bradley and Joe Crawford….two players that will always be linked to each other in Kentucky lore. Their championship totals and overall team pedigree may fall a bit short. But there may never be two players who left more on the floor during their Senior season than these two young men did. Overcoming the weight of heavy expectations, a lack of supporting talent and a last season coaching change, these young men took their game to a higher level in their last year and gave effort that will set the foundation for the near future of the program. Ramon Harris at the SEC Tournament, and apparently again today, cried in the locker room because he wanted to “give a great finish to our Seniors.” The reason is simple. For the coaching staff, their fellow players and the UK fanbase, these two young men have represented what is good about Kentucky basketball. They will be missed.

LOSE DUKE!!
March 20th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
Crawford…you are badass son. this year we finally saw who and what you really are…a fierce competitor who never gives up. great game today my man…makes me proud to be a UK fan. And Bradley, same goes for you dude. You two are a class act and without you all we would have been absolutely nothing this year.
Peace be with you in your future and always remember where you came from. Good game guys and a great 4 years at the greatest place on the planet to play basketball PERIOD! GO CATS!
March 20th, 2008 at 7:44 pm
In one afternoon Joe Crawford exemplified everything it means to be a Kentucky basketball player. Anyone that didn’t feel anguish at watching him with that towel over his face at the end of the game simply isn’t human. Hopefully, Ramel Bradley and Crawford will always be remembered for their leadership and determination that they showed this season. Go Big Blue!!!
March 20th, 2008 at 7:51 pm
These guys have shown this year that they too feel the pain when Ky loses. Our fans haven’t been especially nice to either of these young men. I think they took a lot of crap for things out of their control. What if Ronda had stayed and developed? What if Morris would have been here? It wasn’t Joe or Ramel’s fault our dream class didn’t p;an out. Great job guys, we wish you the very best. You’ll always be “Cat” in our eyes. Thanks
March 20th, 2008 at 7:51 pm
Some people may be asking, “where’s Ramon Harris?”, he’s a thousand miles away son, waiting to strike…
Razor is my new favorite player, and he and PPat will be the leaders next year…next year, i wouldn’t want to be anyone who beat us this year…
Joe and Ramel will be missed, and revered…
UK basketball just capped off a year that many will remember as the first on our re-ascension to dominance…
March 20th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
Yes, he let his emotions go and showed what it means to be a Kentucky Wildcat. He LOVED the game and his team and would give everything up for it. you could see that easily today. I admire that more than anything in this world and Ramel is the same way. Two class acts that will definitely leave a permanent positive solid memory with me because we actually got to see their potential this year. and i also am very thankful to coach for getting this type of behavior out of those two! We need to understand how great a thing it is what we have right now. Coach is in the process of metamorphosing this team into something different. we’ll get there…just takes a while…go Big Blue and Ramel and Joe, peace be with you and you proved yourself just in this one day today. God Bless.
March 20th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
Joe and Ramel……warriors.
March 20th, 2008 at 8:00 pm
Joe Crawford and Ramel Bradley are my favorite Senior CLass of all time. They will never have to second guess their effort. Thanks for four great seasons, Four NCAA’s and tons of memories. We love you!
March 20th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
Matt, you should consider re-writing the sentence “as both young men’s careers came to an end.” to say “as both young men’s COLLEGE BASKETBALL careers came to an end” b/c I don’t think we’ve seen these 2 playing their final basketball games– maybe as active UK wildcats, but technically they will always be wildcats!
March 20th, 2008 at 8:08 pm
Joe Crawford has the look of Joe Frazier. He is a warrior.
March 20th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
Joe Crawford played a hell of a game and left it all out there on the floor!! It’s a shame they can’t come back next year and the ones that do I hope this loss is with them all summer. In the back of mind I know BCG will be out recruiting his butt off,I hope the players will have the same desire and hunger that he does. Now lets go recruitng Billy!!
March 20th, 2008 at 8:13 pm
to be completely honest with you, i was more upset about never seeing these guys again than i was losing the game….regardless of what so many people on this site said about these two (you know who you are) they were invaluable to this team and i personally wont be forgetting the terrible sight of joe bawling into the towel anytime soon. I love watching joe take over games, frustrating as it might have been soemtimes, and bradley was as clutch as they came….this season and these seniors will always hold a special place in my UK memories
March 20th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
One of the best pieces you’ve written Matt! Actually had tears streaming down my face. I don’t think I’ve ever cried over UK basketball (other than during senior days or championship compilation videos), but I am so overwhelmed with the emotions of losing 2 spectacular (& crucial) players of this year’s special team. Luckily for me CBS cut imediately back to the Baylor/Purdue game so I didn’t have to witness the sideline emotional display. I’m very impressed with the sportsmanship & respect of Dominic James, that makes me hate Marquette just a little bit less. Overall this has been an average season from a winning standpoint, but the wins wree much more special and appreciated in comparison. I LOVE UK BASKETBALL and I’m so proud of our “warriors”.
March 20th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
For the fans or so called fans that for three years belittled Joe Crawford even though he averaged around 14 or so points a game. These same fans wished he was put on the bench and not played that he was to selfish ect. Remember this if Joe had been alot more selfish in the last couple of years think of what would have happened. He is an extreme talent that will be missed but most important thing of all about Joe is, in the past 10 years the two players that make us Kentucky fans proud of how they represent Kentucky basketball is Chuck Hayes and Taushan Prince…. Well guess what? Now there are THREE members of that distinquished club.
Thanks for making Kentucky Proud Joe
Go Cats
March 20th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
As others have stated, I hope Joe and Ramel are remembered for the guys who started UK’s climb back to prominence … much like Reggie Hanson and Derrick Miller in the early 1990s. I hope we start to see former players like Joe and Ramel return in future tournaments as we get back to elite status. I appreciate how they bought in to Coach Gillispie’s system and really improved their games this season. I feel better about the future of the program than I have in years. Thanks Ramel and Joe.
March 20th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
I have been extremely critical of Crawford in the past but now I feel terrible about it. What a lot of heart he showed these last couple of months. Chuck Hayes has been one of my favorites but I have to put Crawford up there with him now. Joe, I aplogize for everything I said or typed. I wish you could have had BCG for four years. Good luck in the League.
March 20th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
So proud of you Joe. You too Ramel- what a great senior year for you both! We love you both.
March 20th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
GO BELMONT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 20th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
Joe and Ramel…Thank you for all that you have given to Kentucky Basketball. You have layed the foundation for this program to build Championships on for years to come. You will forever be remembered by this Wildcat fan for giving it your all. Please do not be strangers at Rupp…this is after all a house that you have helped to build. Good luck in all your future endeavors.
You will both be Forever Blue…Wildcats Always.
March 20th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Great game by Joe. He came a long way in the last half of this season and became the player we all hoped he would be. BG certanly cemented his reputation as a developer of players and no one benefitted more than Joe. Good luck at the next level.
March 20th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
We have an uprising! Belmont tied with Duke. Oh please, please, please. It would desrtoy my picks but what the hell!
March 20th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
Patrick Patterson, Jodie Meeks, Derrick Jasper, Ramon Harris, Perry Stevenson, Darius Miller, DeAndre Liggins.
After the heart shown by our seniors this year, I’d hate to play UK next year if even one drop of that passion stays with the rest of the team.
Good Luck basketball world, big brother is back!!!
March 20th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
yeah so paulus was COMPLETELY out of bounds and no call…surprise surprise
March 20th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
I’ve always like Joe C even though at times he seemed a bit selfish. But the change you’ve seen in him can be attributed to Billy G and coaching staff. Its all about tough love and family. Something I really believe was lacking during the Tubby era. I’ve been critical of the cats most of the year but in reality they gave it their all. Thats all you can ask. The foundation has been laid and its strong.
I really believe Joe C. is an NBA player. A better pro player than college player. Billy G helped him see the light!!
March 20th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
23) yea i saw that…it was frigg’n ridiculous. he was out of bounds big time…but when you are a Pukie, anything is possible…GO BELMONT!!!! beat the hell out of them.
March 20th, 2008 at 9:11 pm
To: Joe and Ramel
Two words: Thank you!
March 20th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
LESS THAN A MINUTE!!! go belmont!! belmont by one right now!
March 20th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
good grief…belmont just GAVE them the win…sheesh.
March 20th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
good lord…oh well, nice attempt belmont…you just blew it bigtime.
March 20th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
hey PUKE…you just nearly got your ass handed to you by a 15th seed!!!! NICE run morons…
March 20th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
I hate Duke!
March 20th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
Damn fine blogging there Matt Jones.
March 20th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
Joe Crawford is the man, nuff said. So so proud of him and Smooth. I would give anything to see this team 100% healthy. No doubt they would have mopped the floor with Marquette today, and no tellin how far they could have gone after that.
March 20th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
And Belmont simply choked away one of the potential best upsets in Tourney history (seed wise, Belmont is not your average 15). Why do teams just shut down at the end of games like Belmont did? Squeezing the ball hoping simply not to lose it. Always baffles me. At least Matt will be happy…………..
March 20th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
This game hurts…but at least we saw the Flurry’s consecutive games started streak come to a hault
March 20th, 2008 at 9:47 pm
I saw 100% effort from Ramel and Joe all year. You will certainly be missed, and always remembered with love. Team effort — every one working together — is what made this year wonderful, and what I most love to see. They did the jersey proud.
March 20th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
um im a huge WVU fan and im stuck w/ the gay ass ND game..anyone have any suggestions for streaming?
March 20th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
Can we please cut out all the talk about how much Joe improved this year? He averaged about 2 more points a game this year than last. He was a great player last year and a little better this year. Some of you guys are so bitter toward our former coach its not even funny. All of you who complained about our playing style last year and liked this years is a total hypocrite. I hope to God we don’t play that same way next year. As amazing as Joe was this year think what he could have done with a coach who actually tried to score and didn’t spend the first 6 weeks of the season playing mind games and trying to break him down.

March 20th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
It is a shame Joe wasn’t coached by BCG from the beginning. He has a lot of unrealized potential and that may cost him millions in earnings power for the next 20 years. Maybe Tubby will share some of his money with Joe. As for Bradley I do appreciate his effort but I won’t miss his turnovers or silly decisions during the game. I wish both of them all the best. JC and RB will always be apart of the UK family.
As for next year UK will be better. THe players won’t have an adjustment period. Jasper, Meeks, Patterson, and Stevenson will all become leaders and take the new guys under their wings. Next year will be a crossroads year for Harris. He has a lot of potential but he needs to add muscle, impove ball handling skills, and tighten his shooting skills. AJ Stewart is the wild card. If he takes basketball seriously he could be darn good. Thoughts?

38, CBS has free streaming, thats how I watched the UK game today because Im stuck in Ohio.

March 20th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
Well I guess we can get the jump on Hopson’s post season recruitment.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
thank you
March 20th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
40. I hope they are better and they should be but when you coach a possession by possession game and never yet to get easy baskets you set yourself up to either win or lose a close game. The rest of your post makes no sense if our coach was so great at developing players then Jasper would have looked like a different player today than last year against Kansas. Or maybe perry would have had more than 2 rebounds and more than a dunker on offense.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
38 suck a big one, why don’t ya
March 20th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
Hey “joe crawford is the man” Get off your knees, Your blowing this blog.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:17 pm
I watched the heart breaker at BW3 in Middletown too. Its amazing to see how much of a family those guys were this season. You don’t see that often, but I think we will see it more with Billy G around. I am a die hard cats fan, but this season was more memoriable than most others…
March 20th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
I was happy to participate in a CATS chant, even after the game was over, for the seniors!!
March 20th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
How good is this team with Patterson and Meeks? Stellar! Had this team gone through the season with no injuries, I firmly believe we would be SEC champs and Elite 8 or better (not making excuses). This team over-achieved, something which I cannot remember happening lately. I expect them to continue to over-achieve. The Cats will be a major factor within the next two years. I’m sure next year will be a good season, but I see tremendous potential for 2009-2010. I can’t wait to see Jodie Meeks, Patrick Patterson, Derrick Jasper, and Ramon Harris, and Perry Stevenson (among others) over-achieving at the same time.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
RB and JC, makes one wonder if we should hang their jersey’s in the rafters
March 20th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
dude. agree 100% about joe and bcg. IF WE ARE HEALTHY, we will be really good next year, but we’ll need our freshmen (Miller Galloway) to step up.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
38) Scoring is only one part of the game. Not agreeing or disagreeing, just stating.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
45) Do we have any other option in a close game?
March 20th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
Sorry kenton. I didn’t know everyone had to have the same opinion on here. If you to watch a game where your team consistently runs the shot clock under 10 on every possession more power to you. Also hope you get to losing to gardner webb early in the season so your coach can prove who’s running the team.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
we need to get hopson for next year to help replace some of the scoring that ramel and joe take with them.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
#38 is speaking the truth, to act like joe made huge strides offensively this year is stupid. He’s been the same scoring threat since his frosh year. but he did make strides as a team player defensively (passing was still an issue on offense).
I love what these guys accomplished JC and RB. quite possibly the two best off the dribble in my 30 years, and the best since wayne… but they could shoot. W/out them we will need an offensive set or bring in someone else that can make their own shot. Because the rest of the team was pathetic out there.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
38, are you serious?….this years team compared to last years team isnt even close…..much more emotion and desire from everyone on the court this year, as well as player development
March 20th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
I think many forget these players are just kids when they get here as freshmen. Few of us even as adults face the expectations & pressure they face from the minute they sign with UK. Both Joe & Ramel have matured & improved every year.
Every mistake and bad day is out there for everybody to see and analyzed to death.
Yet through it all Joe & Ramel rarely if ever made excuses. When many would have tossed it in back in Decmeber, They picked themselves & their team up and played their butts off throughout the SEC.
I couldn’t be prouder of a player than I am of Joe for today’s game. His will and determination were unbelievable. The ultimate complement I can pay him as a player is that he absolutely left it all on the court today and that as unbelieve as this sounds, he is now the measuring stick at UK for playing hard on both ends of the court.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
52) Galloway won’t be a freshman next year because he is coming from a junior college not high school.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Don’t want to start the OTS bashing/debate here, but think of what Joey C could have been after 4 years of BCG…It took Joe a while to catch on and see the light, but when he did he was a freakin man out there. If we had 3 of him out there we’d be playing on Saturday. I’ve always said one man can’t beat you, and just the same one man can’t carry the whole team all the time. He needed some help on his level and Ramel was close as far as scoring and heart. If we had more like them, like Meeks, who was healthy and could play full out, we easily win. And I shudder to think about us fully healthy WITH Morris out there……What could have been. Anyway, Joe C and Ramel B, if you read this stuff, know you are appreciated, loved, admired and envied by us mortals and we hope to see you at the next level.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
#55 - I agree with some of your statement, but when you only have 2 offensive threats who play 40 minutes, and only 7 to maybe 8 players playing, do you run fast pace, up tempo game? I am not a coach, but I think I bleed the clock if I only had 2 offensive threats, and no subs.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
60. wrong
March 20th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
One comment to the people bringing the hate that has not been here lately…Can you take a day off and start your hating again tomorrow? today is not the day.
I will miss Joe a lot, a favorite of mine from day one, Im glad he finished his career deep in the hearts of UK fans, he deserves it.
Looking forward to the offseason and seeing what recruits will be part of our future.
GO CATS!! 7 MONTHS TO BIG BLUE MADNESS!!!
March 20th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
It’s just a shame that we could’nt get more offensive production from Harris or Jasper. If both of them gave us just a few points I think we could’ve pulled it out. Joe really put this team on his shoulders and did all he could to help us advance. There was just no one there to balance the scoring.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
55) I’m not saying we have to have the same opinion, All I’m saying is when you put a pile of sh** in a room full of roses, it smells alot worse than it would on the outside of the room. Also, coach had to go to that type game to pull anything out of the end of this year w/o PPat. And to your last comment, I would rather lose an early season game to Gardner Webb and end up having our coach run the team than have what we had the last 5-6 yrs.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
junior
March 20th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
63 - wrong
March 20th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
40, then why don’t you just leave and join a TN, DUKE, UofL, insert other team here, blog? Why don’t you go buy some golden gopher sweatshirts off ebay?
If Tubby had left us with less than a handfull of talent, we wouldn’t be having this discussion today. _Everyone_ knows kentucky had the depth of a plastic wal mart swimming pool. Who’s to blame? OTS. BCG’s record already speaks for itself.
Here’s to Tubby in the NCAA Tourney, Oh wait, he’s not here!!
March 20th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
68 - wrong
March 20th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
68 - just kidding
March 20th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
How can Galloway be a freshman if he is coming to UK from a junior college. He’s already played at Fresno State also.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
GALLOWAY IS A JUNIOR!!!
March 20th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
Galloway will be a Junior!!!!!
March 20th, 2008 at 10:37 pm
see 67 and chill. I meant to say our new players. my bad.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
Haha no its alright I was just making sure. Didn’t mean for there to be any confusion.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
I appreciate Ramel and Joes efforts so much this year that I actually want to seek them out and tell them about it. I really got choked up at the end of the game. I will always pull for these two guys in any of their ventures.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
54. Against Georgia and Marquette yes we do. Play basketball not keep away. I guarantee we have more talent but when your coach won’t let you play a game like today happens. Gillispie took a team that had 2 all conference caliber guards returning another every one on here thought would better in Meeks and a stud freshman and lost to gardner webb. Sorry I’m not breaking my neck congratulating him. As far as conference games go the big difference was we made shots this year. Don’t forget we led both Vandy games in the last minute last year against a better team but byars and foster made shots and we made turnovers. We also played the champs twice last year.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
I think I saw Jasper limping at one point during the game, so who knows how he was fee;ing and how that affected his play. But it did seem like he and Perry treated the ball like it was a hot potato.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
Is it just me or does it always seem like Michael Porter always has a little smirk on his face when he is shown on camera?
March 20th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
78, BCG is his own man. Everything about him and the way he runs a team will be different from someone else. A UK team should be able to beat Gardner Webb with no coach in sight. Don’t blame BCG. They didn’t play. Period. It obviously was a huge transition period and for whatever reason, whether trying to adjust to the man, or his game plan, they weren’t getting it done. But that changed. I think the last half of the year speaks for itself. BCG did the best he could with what he had.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
Coming into this season, I think the consensus among most Cat fans was that Meeks was to be our best returning player, especially based on his play at the end of last year. Add to Meeks two sparkling big-time recruits in Pat and Legion. This forms at least some hope for a decent first year for Billy Clyde. Only my opinion, but I didn’t really count on Bradley and/or Crawford making solid contributions to the “team”, based on their under-achieving careers to that point. What a surprise came our way when the two seniors and their coach got on the same page. I have never been prouder of two Cats than I was today. They will be sorely missed and never forgotten. To Joe and Ramel….best of everything and thanks for the memories…GO CATS
March 20th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
Everyone #78 is Bpatte who has changed his name. He is 100% all about Tubby.
Take a day off from bashing Gillispie and just congratulate Joe and Ramel for a great career.
Gillispie can not be blamed that Jasper, Harris, and Stevenson refused to shoot when open today. I love those guys as role players and appreciate everything they did for us this year but us losing this year has nothing to do with Gillispie’s style and everything to do with not having any offensive options passed our 2 wonderful Senior guards.
When Gillispie has offensive options and a bench you will not see the hold the ball until the end style that you saw this year.
#78 I loved Tubby but he is gone, he has been gone BY HIS CHOICE for a year now, GET OVER IT.
GO CATS!
March 20th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
Gillispie did the best he could with the amount of time he had with Joe and Ramel. He really developed these guys to be NBA type players and its amazing he did it in the time span of just one season. Give all the credit in the world to Joe and Ramel to buying into what Gillispie was trying to instill in the program and getting things turned around in the 2nd half of the season. It was so hard watching Joe at the end of the game after he fouled out. What a heroic effort. Him and Ramel will be greatly missed.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
My best friend and I were sitting in his dorm room watching the game and when the tears started flowing off of Joe’s face we both broke down and cried. I love those two guys along with the rest of this team. I will remember this season as a fight that we may not have won, but we went down swinging. I love these guys for every swing they took.
It’s time for Billy to hit the recruiting trail. I want Ebanks or Hopson (don’t think we can get both.) And Harrelson or Jones. I hope Bud is able to walk-on.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
How could ANYBODY not see the shape we are in is Tubby’s fault?
The lack of depth, the flurry, JC…. C’mon!
Hello? McFly? Even Tubby didn’t want to hang around.
I like Tubby as a person. Don’t have a bad thing to say about it. But our lack of talent is his fault as the head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats. A team, say, like Vanderbilt should never have more talent than Kentucky.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:54 pm
82. Its people like you who make me want to scream. Anyone who says Joe Crawford underachieved his first 3 years is just wrong. He averaged almost 15 a game last year. Better than Scott Padgett ever averaged but Padgett was a gamer and JC an underachiever. Give me a break. Not trying to start the BCG vs. OTS debate either just saying they coach in a awful similar manner . Recruiting we don’t know yet.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:56 pm
March Madness is just not the same with the Wildcats being out so soon…
March 20th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
87….scream all you want to, if you think the Joe Crawford you saw today bears any resemblance to him the past three years..let’s just agree to disagree..GO CATS
March 20th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
And yes I would have said that shit to his face. According to Colin Cowherd people say stuff on the internet that they wouldn’t say to somebody’s face. NOT ME!!!
March 20th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
Points is only one facet of the game.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
#87 You think you are defending Tubby but you are disrespecting Joe on a very special day for him.
Anyone who understands basketball would agree that Joe has improved dramatically this year over the last 3 years, you cannot measure that just by comparing his PPG. All you have to do is watch him play and you can see it.
I will say it again Tubby is gone BY HIS CHOICE and Gillispie is doing his best to build his own team.
March 20th, 2008 at 11:02 pm
i went to see darius miller play in the state tourney tonight…not a great game from him, but mason co. won a close game, thanks to his D, passing, and cluth free throws
March 20th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
This isn’t even Gillispie’s players and he made the most out of it. This year was our adjustment and rebuilding year and we still managed to make the tournament, even with all the adversity and injuries we have faced this year. As a fan I am extremely proud of that. This is what elite basketball programs do. The Florida’s and Ohio State’s of the world have their 2 year span of glory, but where are they now? The NIT. Programs like Kentucky go through down years and adjustment periods while still making the tournament for the 17th straight year. You have to be proud BCG and his players for what they were able to make out of the season after everything they’ve been through.
March 20th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
some idiot behind me said there were at least 5 players on the court better than miller, i almost slapped him for being stupid
March 20th, 2008 at 11:12 pm
89. What would one have to do to not be an underachiever to you. Show me one category he made a drastic improvement in this year. You can’t because he didn’t. And remember the extra 2 points he scored this year probably has a direct correlation to Morris not being on the team. Anyone who says I’m not giving Joe his due credit is wrong also. No one has taken up for him in this thread more than me. Gocats you have no idea who I am. The only other name I ever used was James’redsox. And no not all about Tubby just because I think we have enough talent to beat Georgia and Marquette playing basketball doesn’t make me a bad person. All anyone wants to do is talk about BCG developing players like Joe and Ramel I’m just wondering why he didn’t do it with Perry and Derrick.
March 20th, 2008 at 11:17 pm
Did he have two 35 point games last year?
March 20th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
96…I do think Perry has made big-time positive strides this year, and we really don’t know what Derrick could have done had he been healthy…I don’t give Billy Clyde all the credit but the proof is in the games..GO CATS
March 20th, 2008 at 11:19 pm
#96 What you don’t seem to understand is that being a UK fan means you support the team and the coach you have, not the one you HAD or not the one you want. UK fans saw improvement in Crawford this year in his desire and his heart and his team play. No I can not show you one stat to support any of those but as a fan of basketball it was easy to see and I believe most UK fans agree with me. You don’t agree because you are still so bitter about the change in coaches. If you want me to agree with you I will on one point, Gillispie and Smith are similar coaches when it comes to focusing on defense instead of offense. But I see something different in Gillispie so far, he is bringing out effort and heart that I have not seen in a long time so I love him for it and look forward to seeing his recruits play for him.
I am a UK fan that is more important than any one coach. The program is more important than the coach.
March 20th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
Maybe because Perry and Derrick aren’t Joe and Ramel?
Maybe because they haven’t matured like Joe and Ramel have? Maybe they don’t have the same talent Joe and Ramel have? How many games did Jasper miss?
March 20th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
he absolutely developed perry this season…if you havent seen that youre blind
March 20th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
Joe ended up averaging almost 18 pts. per game this year. I think Prince was the last guy to average so many. Good luck in the league Joe.
March 20th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
97. No he didn’t he had 2 29 point games last year and Randolph Morris taking 15 shots a game.
March 20th, 2008 at 11:22 pm
People like “joe crawford is the man” make me laugh. They come on and post how everyone is wrong in their opinion that Joe improved, then when someone calls out his opinion, he follows it up with “oh, i didn’t know you hated people with a different opinion.”
Course, last time I checked averaging 2 MORE points a game was an improvement.
Though, as someone else said, PPG isn’t the only qualifier for improvement.
March 20th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
96 All you have to do is look at the record this year with DJ and without, and if you did not see a vast improvement in PS this year then you need some glasses. As for JC the change in him this season is not going to show up on a stat sheet. In years past he was only worried about himself, something our previous coach seemed to do nothing about. This year he bought into BCG and the system. He looked at his teamates as family. If you didn not see JC grow up in front of your eyes this year, then again please go see your eye doctor.
March 20th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
97. No he didn’t he had 2 29 point games last year and Randolph Morris taking 15 shots a game. And who knows how good he could have been if he was good enough to start all the games this year.
March 20th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
I guess OM, MS and AR coaches all suck because they all lost to Geogia when they were on a 4 game hot streak.
March 20th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
cant everyone just agree that joe had a great game today, we’ll miss him and ramel, and we’re all excited to see what happens in the future? if you seriously think this team hasnt made strides this season you know approximately dick about basketball. Also, if you dont think that any of the positives of this season can be attributed to BCG, youre blind or ignorant…or maybe both. Just stop arguing and agree that this was a special season with a ton of obstacles and joe and ramel developed into better ALL AROUND players and we’re gonna miss them
March 20th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
AMEN 108 AMEN
March 20th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
god i hate people being negative just for the sake of being negative…just give our seniors some props
March 20th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
Can we all agree that there was a major change in ATTITUDE this year…don’t even talk about the coaches, just watch the players body language on the floor, the attention in the huddles, and the reaction and support of the players on the bench…GO CATS!!!!!!!!
March 20th, 2008 at 11:28 pm
#106 your bitterness is overwhelming you. I enjoy the discussion we are having but you obviouslly are not a UK fan, you are a tubby fan. That is fine but don’t pretend you are a UK fan. UK fans support their team and their coach. All the UK fans on here agree that we saw improvement in Joe and Stevenson and Jasper despite his injuries. You don’t see it because you are so focused on defending Tubby. Bringing up games that we lost due to one or two plays last year just proves how bitter you are. You think if it wasn’t for those few close games we lost last year, we would still have Tubby. But the fact is he left BY HIS OWN DECISION. GET OVER IT, GET BEHIND THIS TEAM OR ROOT FOR SOMEONE ELSE.
March 20th, 2008 at 11:29 pm
#108 well said. I will miss you Joe and Ramel.
GO CATS!!
March 20th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
I can’t believe people are still talking about Tubby that was so long ago I don’t even remember what the Tubby glare looks like. We have to move on and support Billy Clyde.
March 20th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
Billy Clyde to OSU!!!!!!!! 6.5 mill a year…
March 20th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
105. Where is the improvement in Perry . He has no better low post game than last year. Still doesn’t rebound well and can’t catch a cold. The SEC record this year was 3 games better. As I already stated the biggest difference in the records were our seniors made shots this year and our juniors didn’t last year. What was more impressive beating Florida at home this year or having a shot in the air for overtime last year? And I would assert the 2nd biggest difference in the 2 seasons is who we played against. Last year we played against Byers,Big Baby, Tasmin Mitchell, Ronald Steele, Noah, Horford,Brewer and Greene right off the too of my head.
March 20th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
106, Joe only had one 29 point game last year.
This year he had 12 games where he scored 20 or more points(3 over 30).
Last year he had 6 games where he scored 20 or more.
Last year he averaged 14 pts per game, this year, 17.
I would call that an improvement.
You can look it up for yourself
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/gamelog?playerId=22100&year=2007
March 20th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
I am so proud of Joe and Ramel. There efforts this season have been outstanding. I wish them nothing but the best. I think it is an inspiration to us all on how we should face adversity in our lives. Anyone who disagrees is not a UK fan. GO CATS!!!
Does anyone have pics of Joe and BCG hugging after the game? I think that would be a great symbol of this UK basketball season
March 20th, 2008 at 11:41 pm
Anyone else notice only 4 people for UK scored? That includes Porter with 2!! Hate to see these seniors go!
March 20th, 2008 at 11:41 pm
#116 hes gone by his own decision get over it
March 20th, 2008 at 11:41 pm
115) You’re an idiot
March 20th, 2008 at 11:42 pm
116) You’re an idiot
March 20th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
Look up how many actually scored field goals today. Porter’s two were at the stripe. It’s a wonder it was as close as it was. Only because of Ramel and Joe’s playing was it as close as it was.
March 20th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
116. why do you refuse to be positive at all? its rediculous
March 20th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
#116 who is your favorite team?
March 20th, 2008 at 11:46 pm
Crawford 13-22
Bradley 6-15
Stevenson 4-6
there’s our scoring
March 20th, 2008 at 11:48 pm
What about Perry blocks? Assists to PPat? He seems like he actually catches the ball this year. #116 you must be an accountant because all you have talked about are numbers. Can yo honestly tell me that all players from last year stayed the same except by a few PPG.
Basketball is more than just numbers.
March 20th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
hey ive got an idea…lets everyone just ignore the douche bag and maybe he’ll go spew his filth somewhere else….
March 20th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
Joe Crawford Stats:
FG %
2008: 47%
2007: 44
3PT%
2008: 36%
2007: 29
Free Throw %:
2008: 76%
2007: 64
Really don’t notice a trend of improving? Seriously? Crawford’s improvement can be measured in things other than numbers and statistics, just as BCG said about Jasper. His numbers may not show much, but he makes a difference to the team when he’s on the floor. IMO Joe’s improvements were demonstrated in his attitude, tremendous effort and passion for the game. Ramel said this year is the most fun they’ve had and have really enjoyed the wins more. I think Gillispie helped Joe realize his potential and developed his defense & conditioning as well. Joe must be given the credit for his hard work & effort, but Gillispie was definitely the catalyst.
March 20th, 2008 at 11:53 pm
117. I know he had 29 in a game at Georgia last year. I thought he did against south carolina as well could be wrong. So he averaged 3 more a game this year. I wonder where the 16 Morris scored went. How about the 8 Bobby scored. He averaged 3 points more a game this year bet he also took 2 extra shots a game. Any coincidence his 2 35 point games came after Pat got hurt? And isn’t that strange 3 of 12 20 point games came in 5 games after Pat got hurt. So before the injury he scored 20 in 9 of 26 games after he scored 20 plus in 3 of 5. Maybe he was being held back who knows.
March 20th, 2008 at 11:54 pm
I knew we could count on bcgobsession to help us out!
Looking forward to the future with Billy G. Bring on Hopson and Harrelson!

I really don’t know how that means ‘thanks’ but I just had to say it!
GO CATS!!!!
March 21st, 2008 at 12:02 am
115, Again if all you want to look at is the box score then I guess your comparisons are good. Where do I see the imporvement in PS? Well the biggest improvement this year would have to be confidence. His has got much better. His BB IQ improved as well. How many times last year did he look lost. As for the names you mentioned from our opponents last year you seem to forget that our roster looks vastly different as well. The fact that BCG in his first year with a limited roster stopped the losing streaks to Vandy, and UF, won 3 more games in the SEC than we have in the past 2 years, and beat a ranked team for the first time in 3 years. He did all this with 2 previos starters, one phenom freshman(for most of the year), and last years backups.

#132 I guess I shouldn’t feel bad about being upset with this season being over because apparently #130 is still upset about last season! and I thought I had trouble letting things go!
Bring on the offseason, ready to bring in some new recruits!
GO CATS!
March 21st, 2008 at 12:06 am
130) Can’t you just save it for another day? Did you not see the him crying into a towel at the end of the day? The kid played his heart out today and right now that’s all that matters. Just be proud of Joe for his valiant effort today and applaud his remarkable season.
March 21st, 2008 at 12:07 am
115. I’m not being negative. My point is Joe has always been this type player. Nobody else wants to give Joe credit without some kind of caveat. I’m not the one who said Joe underachieved his first 3 years. I’m the one who was just as proud of Joe when he basically kept is in the game at tennessee last year in a game they barely lost. I’m the one who was voting for him last summer when Matt had a poll question of who would be the next 1st team all-sec player. I’m the one who hasn’t disparaged last years senior class. Just because I don’t bow down to our coach I’m negative. And trust me there’s no tubby worship here either. I didn’t just pick this username today.
March 21st, 2008 at 12:07 am
Good post Brink, but didn’t we beat TWO ranked teams this year?!?! Also, must consider the overtime games that were thisclose to pulling out (MSt & FL, I believe)….
March 21st, 2008 at 12:08 am
I would like to thank Ramel Bradley and Joe Crawford for the great effort!!! Also, Dominic James for showing class! Ramel and Joe will never be forgotten as UK players. I’m glad that Joe and Coach Gillispie now have an appreciation for each other. I read a great article that Joe thanked Coach Gillispie for his new work ethics not only in basketball, but in life!!! Way to be a fighter Joe. Ramel, the only thing that can be said about you, is that You are a baller and you will be missed, your personality is one of a kind!!! Good luck to both of you! We (UK fans in the near future) will be watching for your appearances in Rupp, and it will be great for the announcers to mention what you guys did for this program!
March 21st, 2008 at 12:09 am
Yeah we beat 2 vandy and UT, what I was saying was that we had not done that in the 2 previous years.
March 21st, 2008 at 12:10 am
Glad Gillispie is our coach. He united UK Fans again, that were divided by the other loser coach.
Great Job Gillispie
March 21st, 2008 at 12:10 am
Cant wait till next season fellas….Someone said it earlier but I think we will look back at this season and say it was the beginning of our return to greatness. Im proud of our guys and our coach.
March 21st, 2008 at 12:11 am
Brink) I knew what you were implying, but I wanted to be sure that the appears-to-be-a-Gillispie-nonbeliever realizes that it was actually 2. Not trying to call you out, that’s why I said good post b/c I totally thought it was!
March 21st, 2008 at 12:12 am
JC only had one 29 point game last year. At least you could follow the link I posted. He had ZERO 30 point games last year. He had 3 this year. The point is, he improved this year and you said he didn’t.
March 21st, 2008 at 12:13 am
#137 you just don’t get it…
i see through your BS. you pretend to defend Joe but you are disrespecting joe. We need to go straight to the source…
I promise you that if Joe himself were asked He would be saying he has improved greatly this year.
March 21st, 2008 at 12:15 am
#100 GO CATS. I agree 100% with everything you have said in this blog. I really can’t argue with “Joe Crawford is the man” without using multiple profanities so I’ll just say I agree with you. I am so excited about the future with BCG that I can’t even put it into words. All of the guys have improved this year. Sure it can’t really be measured in numbers because it is more about heart and the development of “family” among them. I love this team and what these guys did under the toughest of circumstances. The only way it could have been worse on them this year is if UK had a school shooting or a teammate died. These guys have definitely overachieved and I look for BCG to win his 6th “COY” next year. GO CATS…. I’m with you bring on Harrelson and Hopson or at least Ebanks and Harrelson. I BLEED BLUE, BABY. IBBB.
March 21st, 2008 at 12:16 am
OK thanks bcgobsession, I just don’t get these people that think all there is to Bball is stats. Drives me nuts.
March 21st, 2008 at 12:17 am
This team is undoubtedly improved. Last year we had 12 losses. The year before that we had 13. This year we had 13 losses, but we did it without one of our top players and one of our most promising freshmen. Couple that with all the various injuries to other players and an ill timed loss of our best post player and we still got 18 wins and made the tournament. If this team could have stayed healthy all season, they wouldn’t have lost half of the games they did. This team is without a doubt improved.
March 21st, 2008 at 12:17 am
probably #99 on everyone elses blog. I used to much profanity earlier so you all can’t see my comment.
March 21st, 2008 at 12:21 am
#146 Thanks, I have great respect for all the true UK fans that continue to be positive about the future.
After watching this team improve over the last several months, it is easy to be positive about our future.
March 21st, 2008 at 12:22 am
Not to mention that ’someone’ doesn’t think that Billy Gillispie deserves any credit for the success of our team. At least there’s one person who would agree with the idiot that thinks he doesn’t deserve credit for the team’s turnaround– Gillispie himself. (Although he accepts responsibility for their losses.) Oh and lets not forget that we all expected the worst after PP went down, yet we remained competitive. BCG’s peers also felt that he deserved to be creditted for his good job this season & was awarded the SEC Co-Coach of the Year. BCG motivated these players and assisted in their tangible & intangible improvements.

138. Once again don’t really mean to be negative but if you’re going to talk about overtime losses shouldn’t you also mention the games we could have lost. Ole Miss had a shot in the air to beat us. Arkansas had a chance to beat us as well. I guess I’m the only one on here who would like to see one game where we just kick someones’ ass. As far as Perrys’ blocks I guess like Andy Pettitte I misremember last years first game when he blocked 7.BCG I didn’t realize Joe shot that poorly on 3s last year. All the other stats are about the same. More oppurtunity = more production.
March 21st, 2008 at 12:25 am
Jasper had a bad ball game today but over the course of the year considering he was injured for most he had still become a great defender and rebounder. He is extremely versatile and will be a great player for the CATS the next two years. He had all the intangibles and is a great on the floor leader. When I look at this team for next year I already see three great leaders. Jasper, Harris, and PPAT. I never remember actually thinking we had leaders on the floor with TUBBY especially not this young. I think the 2009-2010 season will be really good for the CATS mainly because all the sophomores will be seniors and PPAT will be a junior coupled with two really good recruiting classes and we will be ready to play some ball.
March 21st, 2008 at 12:26 am
still became*
March 21st, 2008 at 12:28 am
153. Now you’re starting to sound like Jay Bilas. It’s hard to kick any @ss when you’ve only got two proven scorers and a guy that was playing highschool ball this time last year.
March 21st, 2008 at 12:28 am
OKAY number 153. What is your point. R U excited about the Future of UK bball or not? If you are as excited as the rest of us then shut up because all of your posts are counter productive
March 21st, 2008 at 12:33 am
he is trying to say joe didnt improve under billy g. i don’t give a crap if it was billy g. holy water, voodoo or acupuncture. Joe was a better basketbll player this year
I am going to sleep, looking forward to seeing our new recruits. have a good night everyone.
March 21st, 2008 at 12:33 am
154 Lets not forget about MR. Meeks.
March 21st, 2008 at 12:41 am
157. Can I not be excited and honest at the same time? Do I have to just blindly follow a coach who hasn’t ever won more than 2 games in any tournament. Why do you say Jasper became a great rebounder? Was he not last year? Why can’t we let BCG at least make an elite 8 before we crown him? I love Kentucky basketball and I want to win. I just don’t like the style of play where every game is nip and tuck
March 21st, 2008 at 12:49 am
160. Why can’t you see that we didn’t have the talent to blow teams away? People were only expecting two seniors and a freshman to score all the points.
Look at BCG’s record at UTEP and T A&M. You cannot say that it’s not impressive. He’s the only coach to be in charge of the NCAA program with the biggest turnaround in two consecutive seasons.

March 21st, 2008 at 1:02 am
In the dictionary, the word “team” is followed by a pix of this years
Wildcats, that includes everyone including assit. coaches, managers
and Mr. Wildcat himself, Bill K. That is the true meaning of team.
March 21st, 2008 at 1:05 am
160. Using that philosophy Rick Pitino shouldn’t have won 5 games his 1st year. He took a roster with much less talent and won big. Its easy to say you don’t have talent. I guess Dave Bliss is an NBA lottery pick because we were sure scared of him. Can’t we win 1 game because were good and not tough?
March 21st, 2008 at 1:18 am
162. Thanks for making my point for me. Let’s see he plays 2 1/2 times the minutes and scores 2 times the points. 2 1/2 times the blocks and a little over that on rebounds he is much better on free throws. As I said before more oppurtunity = more production.
March 21st, 2008 at 1:19 am
164. Pitino went 14-14 his first year. That’s winning big?
It’s easy to say you don’t have talent when you don’t. Playing Porter, Coury and even JC is proof of that.
March 21st, 2008 at 1:30 am
166. Yes Pitino won conference games big that year. Guess you don’t remember the LSU team they beat. And he did it with 7 players not one of whom had ever scored double figures for the season. Now that was player development pelphrey from 3 points to 14 same with Feldhaus. And I know they 1 player who had averaged double figures. Let’s see if anyone knows who that was. I do and according to you’ll I’m not even a cat fan.
March 21st, 2008 at 1:42 am
None of your stats have been right so far. Why beleive you now?
If 14-14 is winning big, you must think BCG is friggin’ AWESOME going 18-14 while 12-4 in the SEC. Especially the BIG wins over TN and the then unbeaten Vandy. Way to go BCG.
March 21st, 2008 at 2:11 am
167. It was Derrick Miller Using your argument, the Pelphrey and Feldhaus’ “improvement” in Pitino’s first year was just because Chris Mills and and LeRon Ellis were gone and it gave them more opportunity. More opportunity = more production right? So it’ wasn’t really Pitino developing them as players was it?
Go root for the Vols.

There’s no comparison. Crawford was a mcdonalds all american. Pitino did more with less. And you keep hanging on that 12-4 record. Pitino was 8-10 his first year and had to play everyone on the road. I think we can agree at ark, ple miss and bama would have been tough this year. Pitino won 1 more game and lost 5 less his 1st year after losing Ellis and mills. And while I’m a big fan of brassow he kind of doesn’t compare to Pat. Maybe you’re too young to remember or so old you’ve forgot how good that team was at home. Its funny you guys want me to think BCG did some great coaching job but also accuse me of being bitter about OTS being gone. But that’s not hypocritical. Tubbys better off and we probably are as well. I just wonder what the reaction would have been if tubby had struck out on all his big men recruits and lost 13 games.

And before I get blasted the reason Tubby is better off is because he didn’t want to work hard enough to get recruits in.

hahaha thats funny “ukcatfan01abc”…. using his own arguments and points against “joe crawford is the man”. hes just looking for reasons not to like billy. Sorry guy but your going to have to deal with billy for a long time so might as well start liking him.

172. Trust me as long as billy coaches UK he’s my coach. I made it through Eddie suttob basketball I think I can get through BCG. I just don’t want to line up and annoint him. Not sure how he used my arguments against me. Pitino had players whose stats went from 5 ppg to 14 in john and derons case:

173. Yeah, their numbers went up because other players graduated and left. Just what you’re saying about Perry Stevenson, that the only reason he has better numbers is because he has more playing time, not that BCG has done anything at all to help him develop as a player. And I don’t “keep hanging” on that 12-4, for the record, that’s the first time I brought it up.
Pitino also played all those teams at home too, with the exception probably of LSU.
No matter how you try to spin it, 18-14 is better than 14-14 and 12-4 is better than 8-10.
Besides Ramel and Joe and a freshman who missed the last 5 games, BCG didn’t have much to work with.
I do think BCG did a great job coaching and I do think you’re bitter about Tubby.

I really hope that this will get Joe into the draft. He has excelled this year and in my opinion is good enough to get to the next level.
I believe that is something that Joe wouldn’t even have thought about last year. Just shows how good of a coach BCG really is.

174. Wow you obviously don’t have much cat knowledge. Yeah pitino played all the sec teams home and away. That’s how we rolled back then. His record that year was 10-8 I messed that up. He won every home conference game and at Florida. And the LSU game you should look up. All they had was Chris Jackson,Shaq and Stanley Roberts. And I’m sure Jasper, Harris, Stevenson, and Porter appreciate your support. I could not care less about tubby but remember when you dog him you also take some shots at our players.

173 & 174. Joe Crawford played as many minutes last year as this year, but added almost 4 points or 30% to his average. That definetly shows development as a player.
