Is it just me or is Georgia one of the more likeable teams you have ever watched. What they did this weekend may be the greatest feat in many, many years in college basketball, and they have a bunch of guys you can root for, and a coach that does things the right way. Is there any question that UGA is the greatest 14 seed of all time? My other tourney note: USC will beat Kansas St. by 15 and make a suprise run to the Final 4. Yes, I know NOTHING about college basketball. On to the links:
1. Interesting note: Marquette and Kentucky have played 9 times in the NCAA Tournament, with UK going 4-5 in those games. In fact, the two teams have played in the tournament at least once every decade except the 1980’s in the past 50 years. To check out the history of the Marquette-UK series, you can click here and go to the Kentucky Statistics Project.
2. Did you think conference play would be any different for the Baseball Cats? 18-0, a Top 10 national ranking, and a 3-game sweep of Alabama this weekend. One more win will tie the school record for best start. This is nearly guarenteed with Morehead St. coming to Lexington Tuesday. And then a trip to Auburn next weekend will be for the school record.
3. Eric Crawford previews the NCAA Tournament for all the local teams. Good fact from Crawford’s article: the last time UK was seeded lower than 11th was 1985, when a 12th seeded Cats team made a run to the Sweet 16. Really pointless fact but one to keep an eye out for.
4. John Clay believes its ironic the Cats are playing near Hollywood, as their comeback from the depths of losing is something out of a movie. May be a bit of an exaggeration there, John.
5. Pat Forde gives you 65 tidbits to remember when watching the tourney and missing work Thursday and Friday.
7. Courtesy of yourrunning.com, the Top 10 Treadmill Gone Wrong Videos.
8. The New York Mets Kaz Mastui is not going to be playing for a couple weeks after surgery. What did he have surgery for, you might ask. Well, you have to click on this link to find out. It will be well worth it.

Not a Hollywood story but still a good one in the great history of this basketball program.

You do realize Dave Bliss plays for UGA, don’t you? “A guy you can root for?” I think not.
March 17th, 2008 at 11:13 am
Anyone else find it odd that UK baseball got good around just before and after the Roger Clemons visit!?! I’m just saying…
But great stuff go Bat Cats!
March 17th, 2008 at 11:25 am
y U gotta be playjurizin aw da timz dawg?
March 17th, 2008 at 11:25 am
First, I can only root for UGA now that UK made the tourney and I want the SEC to do well (though it will be hard to root for UT). Dave Bliss is a dirty player and I can’t root for him.
Second, Matsui hasn’t played on the Mets in years.
March 17th, 2008 at 11:26 am
Sorry, I don’ share in your love feast of the UGA team. They are still the same aweful
team they were in January except they are in a deep sleep at the wheel and soon will wake
up to reality. 7 scholly players for goodness sake?? Liked the home game yesterday for UGA.
March 17th, 2008 at 11:26 am
Speaking of fissures, are there any Kige videos?
March 17th, 2008 at 11:33 am
I dont know what 6. is trying to say but just in case I interpreted it right I dont think linking videos is playjurizin or more commonly known as plagiarizing, either way to post a link to a website is actually siting your source, however when there is a video or quote posted from another source that is not credited back, then you may have a case for “playjurizin”
March 17th, 2008 at 11:35 am
sorry that is citing^ (not siting)

Does Kentucky Sports radio do an online bracket competition?
March 17th, 2008 at 11:47 am
That gives new meaning to the phrase butt crack….It literally is.

I am sure after watching gameday last night everyone is thrilled to know that Coach J Bilas is doing the color commentary for the UK-Marquette game. Maybe he will mention how we don’t belong after we fall behind 2-0.

14 - I hope Billy G hits Bilas over the head with a whiskey bottle.
March 17th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
14-he’ll say it after we fall behind 8-0 (due to Mark “spot them 8″ Coury. But then he’ll have to back peddle when we come back to be tied at halftime, then he’ll say we don’t belong after we fall behind by 10 in the second half but then he’ll backpeddle after we come back and win by 3.

If Gillispie hasn’t learned his lesson yet from starting his slow, uncoordinated but than he never will. It’s the most idiotic thing I’ve ever heard of.
March 17th, 2008 at 12:22 pm
17.) UR RIGHT!!! except he will never backpeddle after we win he will either say A.) Its hard to watch a game like that come down to calls that could have gone either way. B.) Marquette never really did get going and Kentucky will get blown out in the second round. or C.) Imaginde what Arizona State would have done if they played marquette!
March 17th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
I know this was one of the strangest seasons in UK history but doesn’t the Coury double-double in the first game feel like a million years ago?
March 17th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
im really surprised he hasnt scored more …………… any team that has read the scouting report should know to leave him wide open and double someone else
March 17th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
Check out the picture in the Eric Crawford story…Is that the Greenwell who posts on here?
March 17th, 2008 at 12:30 pm
I truely dont know what the deal is …. ive seen the kid play at the JC and severely struggle on the D court
March 17th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
#23 I love this team but if I was the opposing coach, I would put 2 guys on Crawford, 2 guys on Bradley, and the other guy guarding Patterson on the bench just in case he gets up. Everyone else, leave open.
March 17th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
24 - Thank God you’re not Tom Crean (you’re not, are you?), otherwise we’d be screwed!
March 17th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
#25 Yeah hopefully he doesn’t read this blog, especially when Know You Enemy comes out.

Is it just me or does it seem like Tipton has hijacked Matt’s opponent’s overview format: http://www.kentucky.com/276/story/349118.html . I can’t wait till Tipton starts rating the cheerleaders in his column. I know Tipton has to be a dick to sell news papers since he has no talent like Brett Dawson. He wants to be the guy you love to hate so you will read his column rather than be drawn there by his prose. I don’t want someone who is in the tank for UK, but he is just like Saddam Hussein in the South Park movie evil & gay.
It would be interesting to know his background past his covering Marshall before coming to Lexington. Anyone have any idea- what college he went to & etc?
March 17th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
I too disagree about Georgia being so likeable. I can’t think of one person on their team that I like at all. I respect what they did, and wish that UK had been able to do it. But I don’t like ‘em. Because ya know, if I was Felton I would savor the victory for a little bit, but at some point I would have to just sit back and think “Where the heck were these guys all season long???” I mean, any team that was capable of what these guys did this weekend should NOT have been so miserable in the regular season. On one hand I guess he can love the guys for saving his job and being so gutsy… but why did it take so long to get their heads out of their asses? I would kinda be pissed.

Randolph morris had 8 points this weekend
March 17th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
i think Kevin Durant was a better player than Beasly or Mayo, and his team went no where
in the tourney.

30) I agree that Durant was a better player than Mayo, but I am going to have to disagree with that in respect to Beasley. I have watched him several times this year, and I am more impressed each time I watch him. He can score from everywhere, whether it is a three pointer or banging down low (where he can shoot proficiently with either hand). He is also a very good passer, but his teammates often struggle with hitting the open jump shot on a consistent basis. I will not go out on a limb and say he will help his team reach the Sweet 16 or beyond, but this has nothing to do with what type of player he is. Beasley will be the #1 pick in the NBA draft and will make an immediate impact for whatever team selects him–which I think will be Riley and the Heat.

i just looked at Beasleys stats and your right 32,
slightly better. i feel bad for the kid getting stuck in basketball no mans land. but hes not to bright if he went to a D-bag coach like Huggins.
either way translates into an early ncaa exit.
March 17th, 2008 at 2:03 pm
34) You are right about that, and I would think that he is most definitely one and done

it’s just you. UGA is a dirty team and Felton is a cry baby. I hope Bliss gets the clap from Ryan Seacrest. Count them as my third least favorite SEC team (after UF and UT).
