[Moderated by Matt Jones]

Yesterday, Matt predicted how the KSR bloggers would perform in a combine like workout, and last night we all got together, running our 40’s and lifting 225 pounds. Here are the results:
40-yard dash

3) Mosley- 4.85
4) Turkey Hunter- 4.91
5) Intern- 5.01
6) Rob Gidel- 5.03
7) Hubby- 5.12
8. Tomlin- 6.93
9) Matt Jones- 9.43

6) Tomlin- 9
7) Matt Jones- 7 1/4
8. Hubby- 5
9) Intern- 3

The stats say it all!!!
Interesting fact of the day: If Joe Crawford continues on his current scoring pace (16.8ppg) for the remaining 4 games, plus 2 SEC Tournament Games, plus 2 NCAA Tournament games, he will finish 19th all-time at UK in scoring. This would also put him ahead of Kyle Macy, Rick Robey, Frank Ramsey, and Sam Bowie, all of which have their jersey’s retired at Rupp. I DONT think Carwford should have the same honor, but I do think he may be the most underapreciated UK player in my lifetime.
1. With Mississippi coming to Rupp tommorow, I give you a blast from the past today, the box score from the largest rout in this series history (which by the way goes UK 94-11). You have to go all the way back to 1952, Kentucky had won 3 out the past 4 national titles, and in what had to be a fridgid night in Owensboro, UK beat the Rebs by 58 points!!! 6 players in double figures, led by Cliff Hagans 37 points.
2. You may remember last week when the website UKMadness began releasing its 25 greatest UK players with #25 Chuck Hayes. They now have released both #24 Derek Anderson (questionable, although with him Cats win 3 straight titles) and #23 John Pelphrey.
3. ESPN sucks at lists. Plain and simple. Here is an update of their 25 greatest basketball players. They just released #10: Wilt Chamberlain. Are you serious? The greatest big man in the history of basketball is only the 10th best college player. Did Jesus Christ play college basketball and nobody told me? I will say it again, Pete Maravich, Lew Alcindor, and Bill Walton better be in the Top 5 or this will be the biggest sham of a list EVER. Rick Bozich devotes his article to this very topic today in the Courier-Journal. A MUST READ!!
4. If you hadn’t heard, UK and UL are once again fighting over next season’s football game. Unfortunatly, UK is wrong in this argument, which is over the game being played on a Monday. Mitch Barnhart has claimed that a Monday game gives the team too little time to rebound for their game the next Saturday. And that opponent is: NORFOLK STATE!!! Just play the damn game, beat the Cards on their home field and move on. All this extra stuff that Barnhart does is embarassing for the program.
5. I forgot to post this yesterday, but if you didn’t watch Tiger kicking ass, the NFL Scouting Combine, or the NASCAR delay-fest, you might have seen thr Pistons put an absolute whipping on the Shaq-studded Suns. Boy that trade has really worked out for the Suns so far, lose to the best team in the West (Lakers) by 6, beat the Celtics at a slow down game, and get crushed by the Pistons. They have played 3 of the best teams in the league and went 1-2. Shaq DOES NOT improve the Suns chances to win the title. I said it from the beggining and I look like a genius. If the Suns are forced to play a slow down game like they did against the Celtics, they will lose more than they win. They don’t have to worry about playing Boston anymore because they wont get out of the second round of the Western Conference playoffs.
6. A drunk man. One day away from his wedding. Naked. A horse race. A face plant. Horses running the wrong way. All of these things lead to a very funny video.
7. In my opinion, the soulja boy dance has become the new macarena, a dance that white people look extremely dumb doing, but in the process dont feel embarassed trying. Now, this dance craze has hit the old women of the Milwaukee Bucks dance team. Jump ahead to the :42 second mark of this video.

Brian, many people didn’t want Gillispie and felt like they were geniuses before SEC play started. They don’t look so smart now do they? Point being, you may end up right about the Shaq trade, but you certainly aren’t right because they went 1-2 against 3 of the best teams in the league in his FIRST THREE GAMES. They could have easily gone 1-2 or 0-3 in that stretch before the trade. Fact still remains, they weren’t winning a title before the trade so I applaud them for trying something and getting rid of a guy who didn’t want to be there in the process. Lets also remember that playoff basketball won’t be played in the 120’s. They may not beat the Spurs or Lakers, but Shaq will give them a much better chance to do so than they had. Particularly against the Spurs who will MAKE them slow their game down. Shaq gives them a chance to slow down a Tim Duncan or Andrew Bynum, something that had ZERO answer for prior to the trade. Give them some time to work things out and get a set lineup and then judge them. Proclaiming yourself a genius after the results of THREE GAMES actually makes you look more silly than smart. By the way, I like what you bring to the blog so don’t think that I’m calling you an idiot or acting like I’m smarter than you. I’m not. It’s just a bit early to enshrine you with genius status on this issue.

4) oh I’m a genius, you dont have to say it cause I will, hahaha
February 26th, 2008 at 11:10 am
4) Somehow I figured that. haha
February 26th, 2008 at 11:23 am
I guess my point is these first 3 games were against the best of the best and they went 1 and 2 and were crushed by the pistons, all 3 games were at home too

Bryan, I enjoy reading you every morning and typically you are right on your info but today you are a little off. Derek Anderson only was a part of 1 national champion team 1996. Although I see you point that if he would have played in 1997 we would have won but he graduated that year and therefore obviously had no impact on the 1998 team. Honestly as we all remember he really wasn’t a factor in 1996 because of the unbelievable talent we have here and in 1997 he only played in 5 SEC games and half the overall season therefore I have to say Chuck Hayes is much better. No big deal on missing it. Keep up the good work.

Souljah Boy = Electric Slide
I have been saying it since day one and now I LOOK LIKE A GENUIS.
Brian my friend, ye of little faith. Give the suns a chance to adjust. They will be fine. Would you have rather Marion left at the end of the year and the suns gotten no one for him?
February 26th, 2008 at 11:51 am
7) wasn’t a fact on the 96 team? are you crazy? He was our motor!
And chuck is no better than 25, he is probably only on the list because of his heart, desire and fan favoritism.
February 26th, 2008 at 11:56 am
7)Saying Derek Anderson wasn’t a factor on the 96 team is terribly dumb. I won’t even elaborate as to why… and I believe bryan was just saying that we would have won three titles in a row with a healthy Derek Anderson, not saying that Anderson would have helped in 98.
Secondly, Bryan, after seeing the times and reps from your combine workouts, it is my gut feeling that you should try out for the NFL…
February 26th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
It is obvious Bryan isn’t a genius. He doesn’t even know how to us an ‘ correctly. It would be Cliff Hagan’s 37 points. It’s about ownership of the 37 points Bryan.
Further, UofL is the one who won’t be flexible. They are insisting on Monday night. We are saying we’ll play Thursday-Sunday.
And yes, preparing from Tuesday-Saturday for a game would really hurt us early in the year for a couple of reasons. A. Because we would start practice, b. because we’d be trying to catch up on healing until our first buy week, and C. Because it isn’t smart to have such a short week to prepare early in the season. Look at the SC game last season for proof.
We don’t pimp ourselves out like uofl does.
February 26th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
You can’t seriously think that we should play a football game on Monday then turn around and play anoher one five days later? I don’t care if they are playing Sisters of the Poor, you just can’t expect them to be rested and prepared four days later. Though it’s probably a 99% chance that it won’t happen again, Michigan proved against App St that bad things CAN, in fact, happen. I would like to find out if that has ever been done before and if it has, what the outcome was of the team that had that small of a turnaround.
February 26th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
12) You arguing that the Cats will not be prepared for Norfolk State is comical!! ITS NORFOLK STATE!!!! Stop acting like Norfolk is App St., App St. has only won 3 straight national titles!!! You crack me up, UK is embarassing itself once again, they better hope this doesnt get out nationally
February 26th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
I agree.. play on Monday

This helps UL more. UL needs a feather in their cap right now, and National TV on a Monday night to open the season is just what the Dr. ordered. No way UK should let that happen at their expense. It’s just not as important to UK as it is to UL. Playing on National television on weeknights has helped turn UL into the program they were from 2000-2006. Why should UK allow their rival to use that strategy to get back to prominence? Its very important for UK to beat UL. Otherwise a losing record is very possible. UK should be concerned with not letting UL get back to powerhouse status, bc it is important to be able to beat UL in the non conf schedule every year. Its not scared or chicken, its a strategy to hopefully limit UL in the future. If you cannot look past your own agenda as a UL fan and call it what you do, then that is not my problem. I see why the game would be beneficial, and why it would help either program, but I also see UL’s agenda. No it wasnt UL’s idea, but they sure as heck would like to run with it and take it on as their accomplishment.
Bryan, not so fast my friend. Here is my take on the Monday night football game:
If UK wins their first 3 or 4 games, then the exposure will happen naturally for UK bc of the quality opponents. UL doesnt have that ability bc of their schedule no matter what you would like to think. Why should UK be the one to aid in their strategy of becoming a national powerhouse. It is a fact that Jurich has used National exposure as a huge part of the strategy to get to the top, and that was only possible by playing weeknights when no one else was playing. Well it worked. When the nation saw UL beat FSU on ESPN on a Thursday night, it changed the face of the program.
I respect Mitch by not giving in to the media pressure knowing he is going to be called what people are calling him. To me, he is looking like a darn good AD. Baseball and football are at all time highs, and the Bball team has as much positive movement as I have seen in 5 years.

It is no different than a Thursday game following a Saturday, and like BTI says.. It’s Norfolk St. If anything, early in the season is better for a short week b/c the players aren’t as banged up yet, plus we don’t have to travel for the Sat game and, AGAIN, it’s vs Norfolk St.
February 26th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
Here’s what you just said, Dusty, “Let’s cut off our nose to spite our face, that’ll show ‘em!”
February 26th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
15) since when is UK on national TV all the time, UL has had MANY more national TV games than UK over the past decade, and did you call me a UL fan? Seriously? I write for a UK blog, you talk as if UK has this great national reputation and they dont need to be on national TV as much as UL, of course they do, not to mention they would be the only game that night, and the reasoning of Mitch Barnhart is just plain stupid, thinking that the team would not be prepared for a game against Norfolk State is ridiculous, he is only doing it to piss off UL and Jurich and that is embarassing as a UK fan, which I am
February 26th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
Bryan the Intern — i like #17’s nickname for you, “BTI”
February 26th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
20) yeah, that is pretty sweet
February 26th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
Who cares about the Shaq Trade…IMO, pro sports in this country are in the proverbial John J. Crapper. They are are all a bunch of overpaid, drug abusing, children. The NLB cherade is just the surface of an out of control system that reaches into all pro sports. ANYHOW I digress…
What is Mitch Barnhart trying to do!!! Ky. has been rebuilding the football program for years, and just as we are recieving nationall attention,he wants to exercise his modicum of power? This is rediculous! Don’t you think that Coach Brooks should be the one deciding if a 4 day turnaround is enough for NORFOLK STATE?
February 26th, 2008 at 4:14 pm
Sorry Bryan… I would never mean to call you such a nasty thing as UL fan. I copied and pasted an email that I had wrote to a UL fan. I thought I had edited out the dialogue towards UL fans. I see your point, and do agree. Im just thinking MB should have not used that excuse, and flat out said why in a politically correct way.
February 26th, 2008 at 6:06 pm
Bryan-
I wasn’t argueing or comparing Norfolk to App St. All I’m saying is why take that chance? If UK can play on ESPN on Sunday and be the only game that day, then what’s the difference?
February 26th, 2008 at 7:52 pm
Bryan, who’s the Big East coach who started throwing punches with an assistant during hafltime in the hallway to the locker room? (per Forde Minutes)
February 26th, 2008 at 11:47 pm
You certainly are not a genius!
February 28th, 2008 at 2:11 am
i guess we now know why you are considered an ‘intern’. UK has every right to ask that the game be played no later than Sunday. It’s supposedly in the contract with UofL. I’m kind of confused as to what extra exposure they would get being on Monday vs. Sunday. Of course we would beat Norfolk St whether it’s 5 or 3 days rest. But why should we have to do that and screw up the practice schedule and make the game less fun for the fans. Who wants to watch this game on a Monday night before everyone goes back to work? WHY? If it’s such great exposure why is no other BCS conference team jumping at it? well except UofL
I don’t understand what the difference in being on ESPN on Sunday vs. Monday is? I really don’t. I think you’ve been hanging around UL fans too long.
