[Moderated by Matt Jones]

At today’s SEC teleconference, Billy Clyde addressed the question of UK’s talent on the roster:
“I haven’t worried about that (talent) at all. We have plenty of players here to play better than we have. That is my repsonsibility whether we have had injuries or not. We do not have a complete roster and are trying to shore it up, but the roster is OK and we should have played better than we have.”

Typical coach speak. Hes not gonna tell you that save patterson, his big men cannot play d the way he wants to play d and he cant run an offnse without a threat from the high post. Joe and Ramel are terrible defenders. But hes not ever gonna say those things because he is smart.

I have a question, and I am just curious…. We all have heard the BCG rumors….. My take is where there is smoke, there normally is fire, but I wonder how it is possible that there has been no real mention of anything in the newspapers. Sure, you can cover some stuff up, but if half the stuff was really true, then it would have to surface! I honestly will not believe it until I see it in public record!
January 7th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
Can we tell Joe C. that we are behind by twenty at tip off. Thats when he seems to do the best. go big blue
January 7th, 2008 at 4:11 pm
I’m with everyone that our team is lacking major talent, but we’re not far off from last year. All we’re missing
is Sharon Thoms, Square Perry and blunted Morris. Seriously…..we should be playing much better than this.
Just a thought as well…..when one is limited on talent and not as deep, don’t you want to play a zone to
save some legs…….maybe I’m crazy but Lt. Dan isn’t off to a great start. Still ready for next year
though and have faith in him for then, this just sucks. Go Blue!

#3: trust me, there is a fire but many of the instances were not considered crimes. i’ve heard of two to three times where an ordinary citizen would be arrested but he was given preferential treatment. that’s not to say that it wasn’t noted by the authorities and i think his slack is quickly disappearing. to be fair, for some of the controversial events i’d give my middle nut to trade places with him, being that i’m a single, straight male.
January 7th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
Tubby just lost at number six Michigan State by six points. There is no
way that squad has more talent than UK. We would have lost by at least 15
or 20.
January 7th, 2008 at 4:23 pm
6) I’ll tell you to your face! You’re an out-n-out lier!
If you had any proof of anything, you’d have pictures. I don’t see any pictures or video
and until I see, I say it ain’t true.
Provide me a link to actual pictures and/or video, and I’ll apologize!
January 7th, 2008 at 4:45 pm
7, So Tubby gets half a loss?
January 7th, 2008 at 4:45 pm
#6, and #8, I am not trying to stir stuff up. I have heard many rumors, but I tend to think it is more talk than reality. I support the coach and the team 100 percent! I am very disappointed in this year’s record, and I think this will be the worst record since Eddie Sutton’s final season. That is tough to take as a UK fan!
January 7th, 2008 at 4:51 pm
I’m not looking to promote a bunch of rumors, but out of curiousity what have most of them been about? (obviously out of the loop here)
January 7th, 2008 at 4:57 pm
Give the rumors a rest. CBC is doing nothing wrong.
January 7th, 2008 at 4:57 pm
Drinking and driving, skinny dipping with 2 hot young 21 year olds
in Merrick Inns Pool and that is about it. About the same i would
be doing if i made 3 mil a year and lived in a 8000 sqft house. But
now he has a driver so we dont have to worry about him being pulled
over.
January 7th, 2008 at 5:01 pm
Im not sure about the Dui. Somebody on hear swears he got one and
that is why he is doing the “Buckle it up Kentucky” commercials. He has to do them as part of his punishment. RUMOR IS that he got pulled over and was
taken to mitch and todd. The police told Mitch and Todd that they
didnt need another Eddie Sutton on there hands and to get him under
control.
January 7th, 2008 at 5:02 pm
I agree #12 i like Billy a lot and i think he will do great things
here if we are just patient.
January 7th, 2008 at 5:03 pm
9) No, it’s still a loss. The point being Tubby took a team full of lumbering white
guys into Michigan State and only lost by 6. How many points would a BCG led team lost by?
I bet Tubby wouldn’t have lost to SD, Garden-Ridge or UAB. BCG may want to watch some tape or
buy Zone defense for dummies.
January 7th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
Tubby never ran a zone either. He is not going to change his ways
for a bunch of no talent basketball players, and i wouldnt either.
You think he gives a crap about this year. Hell no he just wants to
get through it get somebody he can coach and start kicking a$$ next
year. Tubby may have been a good coach but he couldnt motivate a
player worth a crap. Billy needs to cut about 9 players off that
bench and start over next year.
January 7th, 2008 at 5:14 pm
#7 & #16 … sounds like us last year! Man we could play those ranked teams tough but we came up whiffing when it came to actually pulling out the W. We went 0-fer against ranked teams last year.
January 7th, 2008 at 5:23 pm
16, we’ll never know will we?
January 7th, 2008 at 6:28 pm
I dont understand all of the Joe Crawford bashing. Where would this team be without him? How can someone averaging around 16.0ppg and be a career 1000 point scorer be so bad in so many peoples minds. If Joe was in a system like Tennessee or any team with a run and gun style system the same people would be saying “See, why did Tubby not get a player like that” I know this team is dreadful but some people placing alot of the blame on Joe is not justified. If Joe was at Tennessee and had the same green light as Lofton what would he average? hmmmmmm oh well.
GO Cats
January 7th, 2008 at 6:43 pm
I say we honor BCG’s contract. No signature. No excuses. No second chance. Had I performed at the level BCG has when I assumed leadership of my division, I would be up for review and summarily FIRED. This is the University of Kentucky. The winningest collegiate basketball program on the planet. If Wildcat Nation can pucker their collective lips to say that the former coach had failed, can it unsuplant them from this man’s ineffective backside? We are now Notre Dame Football, except less relevent nationally.
January 7th, 2008 at 7:49 pm
We are gonna be great just keep your panties on
January 7th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
All the folks on this thread that are propagating the BG rumors are pieces of S***! Not UK fans and despicable human beings. And yes, I’d tell you to your face!
January 7th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
1- Where’s our threat from the high post coming from next year?
January 7th, 2008 at 8:11 pm
lol, all of the morons spreading this BS about BCG is hilarious! complete idiots…keep it up retards. you guys should sew a zipper to your mouths and keep it zipped closed.
January 7th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
18 I’d rather lose close games to top 10 teams than get embarassed by sub .500 mid-majors.
January 8th, 2008 at 5:30 am
14…and that is why Brooks and numerous other coaches have done the same commercial? Come on, THINK about these types of things before you even think it is true.
January 8th, 2008 at 7:58 am
#26 then you have your head in the sand if you think this will continue. You can’t expect a coach to come in with a new squad and automatically start producing. If you tout Tubby so much, this is practically the same squad he had last year and he had what, 10 or 11 losses? Not to mention we had injuries to two of our starters.
This is ridiculous. We let Tubby have 10 years and we’re not willing to give Billy one year. Give the guy a friggin’ chance to at least pull some talent in before you oust him. I don’t like losing to these teams either, but you have to give the guy a grace period. Crap we let OTS go 9 years without making a Final 4 and 2 years without making it out of the first weekend of the tournament before people really starting complaining.
Oh, and for the record, I’d rather lose some now and impliment a new system if it means NOT losing by 5 or 6 points to quality teams.
January 8th, 2008 at 8:51 am
21 - if you’re not going to give BCG time, even while he has already shown us he is a top recruiter, who would you rather have in here?
January 8th, 2008 at 8:58 am
#21, are you serious? I moved to Florida 3 years ago and I guarentee you there have been as many, if not more UK games on down here that of UF. Even this year when UF has a much better record and we’re sucking it up! Less relevant? We might not have an exclusive contract, but CBS pretty much bows down to us and realizes what putting our games on TV means. Get a grip with reality.
You would think we would have learned this lesson with Rich Brooks. Give a coach AT LEAST one friggin’ year to get his own players in his system. This is ridiculous.
January 8th, 2008 at 9:27 am
I think Bruce Pearl would have been awesome for UK i said that after Tubby left.. and everyone said he is like a used car salesman. I liked the excitement he brings, i really enjoy watching his team play (uptempo and pressing defense) kinda like KY in the 90’s. I know i would like to play for him.. his teams have fun.
January 8th, 2008 at 9:43 am
#31 Yah, John Wooden would be great. Maybe Mike K. How bout Dean Smith? We could exhume Adolph Rupp. It was a sure thing that Billy Donovan would leave UF for us, oh, and Rick Barnes too. Not to mention Calipari was dieing to come to Lexington until Memphis offered him a truckload of cash.
Shoulda, woulda, coulda. I don’t think UK fans will be happy until a coach comes in, wins instantly, and we go to the Final Four every year while winning a national title every other year. Give it some time. Look at what The Aggies are doing this year. BCG will get us where we want and need to be.
January 8th, 2008 at 10:00 am
I know how everyone here likes to hear the new rumors about Billy G..so I thought I would share
the latest rumor that is going around Paris. Billy G has impregnated not just one hot college
coed, but two.
January 8th, 2008 at 10:42 am
Get two girls pregnant in one night he really is having a bad year.
January 8th, 2008 at 11:38 am
Thank You #32 most of these people expect automatic dominance. Dominance in any sport takes time to mold and build. BCG must be a great molder and builder to take the Aggies to the Sweet Sixteen and a 3 seed in the tournament. We must give this guy some time. I am tired of hearing people like Packer and Matt Jones saying that BCG should adapt to the players he has. He only has two seniors on this team so most of the guys will be back next year. If you don’t implement your system and the way you want things done now at what point do you implement it. I also think that some coaches are great at x’s and o’s and some coaches are great at recruitng players that fit into their system like a glove. I think BCG would be the coach that can recruit to fit his system. You have to give the guy time to do that. It will be a while though. The group of sophomores that we have now must graduate because they just don’t have the talent to compete on the defensive side of the ball besides Ramon Harris I guess. Give the man time to get his players in here and then judge his coaching.
January 8th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
28 You’re a moron. Where did I tout Tubby or mention his name in this thread. When did I say that we should fire Billy? What the hell is wrong with you?
January 8th, 2008 at 12:07 pm
35 Or you could say he got a 3 seed in the tourney and only got to a sweet sixteen. We don’t settle for sweet sixteens at UK when we are a top 10 team all year like A&M was last year.
January 8th, 2008 at 12:07 pm
35 And Billy G told us himself he adapts his style to the players he has? Do you remember when we hired him?
January 8th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
I’m just saying man when do you implement your style of play. If you don’t do it immediately how can your team know what to expect from you. Its common sense. I hate it when people say what you said in post #37. Obviously if he can take a team like Texas A&M to a Sweet Sixteen then he can take us way beyond that consistently. It’s a football school with a small fanbase and little money put into the program. If he can get results there then he definitely can get those same results and more at Kentucky. I bet you would have taken a Sweet Sixteen last year the year before and this year huh.
January 8th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
There is nothing wrong with a sweet sixteen. If you get there then you can make some noise and you have something to build upon the next year. Is Kentucky Basketball the only sport/team you are aware of. I have made this argument over and over, but do you think BIll Bellichik could take over the Atlanta Falcons next year and turn them into a contender in the playoffs. I seriously doubt it. It would take him time to implement his system, draft the right players, and change the atmosphere in the locker room.
January 8th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
Also A&M last year was basically a missed layup away from an elite eight. They are also in the top 20 again this year.
January 8th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
Deandre Jordan is a beast.
January 8th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
#36: We were talking about Tubby and you responded to what I said in post 18. I (logically) assumed that’s what you were referring to. The last two years we have lost to a lot of quality opponants by a few points. All I said was Minnesota’s loss to Michigan St. resembled that same pattern. So ummmm, yah we were talking about OTS. Evidently you missed that.
I wasn’t referring to you exactly when I mentioned touting Tubby and talking about firing Billy. Just about some of the general talk on this thread. I’m sorry if I grouped you in with that unappropriately.
But, I was talking about Tubby’s close losses when you referred to my post in 26. Sorry if communication lines got crossed there.
January 8th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
sweet sixteens is all we settled for with tubby for 10 years, why treat bcg any diiferent
January 8th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
Some people on here make more excuses for BCG than he makes in his interviews. He is the best at one thing and that is blaming his players.
January 8th, 2008 at 10:44 pm
I concur 45. What is the timeframe for personal accountability? CBS bows down to UK? Maybe at WKYT. I live in the Raleigh-Durham area in the heart of enemy territory and we are a relative joke here in Gardner-Webb Country. How did those apples taste when the scoreboard hit 00:00? What about the loss to San Diego? I can care less about the rumors, that’s what due process is for. I care about the winningest basketball program.
