[Moderated by Matt Jones]

UKAthletics has announced that Alex Legion has officially transferred. Later tonight I will have more on the story, but with all that is going on, this does bear remembering. Take a look at this article, written early in the year about Alex’s mother. She was the force behind this move and this helps a bit with perspective.

sounds like it was his mother’s doing, some people think their special someone is better than what they are and don’t have to work for anything
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:10 pm
Good riddance.
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:10 pm
Glad I was able to find that link

wow… that’s tough to take.
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:11 pm
Matt need to post another link from the last thread also about Legion transferring from his high school team because of the offense not running through him, even though he is “their best player”(his words)
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:12 pm
if it is the mother’s fault that won’t be good for all you Porter haters, can’t stick the blame of the transfer on him

December 3rd, 2007 at 11:16 pm
crazy b***h.
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:16 pm
You think as a prophet she would have seen this coming…
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:17 pm
Clearly we’re getting rid of a couple of looney tunes here, and I think we’re better off in the long run.
Just sucky news to get right now…
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:26 pm
As a Pastor, the whole thing sickens me. She is no Prophet, lets get that straight. These events reveal that.
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:29 pm
pot meet kettle.
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:29 pm
ahh, i can’t handle this. coach g can get the recruits, but can he keep them?
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:30 pm
wow i had no idea she was such a wing nut. man this is all for the best.
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:34 pm
The thing that gets me is that during the NC game, she was publicly bad-mouthing our coach. At the very least, that shows no class and lack of Christian values.
But the worse thing is this. If this was a challenging and perhaps adverse situation for Alex and his mother, then the best thing would be to face the challenge and not cut and run. She is teaching her son that when things get tough, look for ways out to make it easier. She missed an opportunity for her son to mature into a man.
But don’t worry. God will place before them new circumstances with the same old challenges. It will be new faces, but same old song. And that’s prophetic.

Sorry about Alex’s kook of a mother, but can I just say that I HATE the New England Patriots? There’s a special spot reserved in hell for all of them, right along with Duke fans.
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:40 pm
Sorry– my comment box goes off the page, so I had to separate
that. Copy & paste the link; Legionis truly making the mistake
of a lifetime. Guess he doesn’t have the heart of champion.
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:40 pm
OMG, thank GOD he’s gone. i do NOT want some freak bit** like that running a players life on our team. i hope she can prophet his way through life. geez what a frigg’n lunatic wacko female. Legion’s, please leave lexington as soon as possible. follow the yellow brick road the hell out of here ASAP. Alex, you need to grow up and get a frigg’n clue. Yo momma is gonna ruin your life….but by all means if you think she’s a “prophet”, go ahead and have faith in her : ) i’m sure the good Lord would be happy with that decision…having faith in “prophet legion” : ) as a matter of fact i think now i’ll pray to her instead of God himself since she is so great!!
WOW!! what a lunatic!

Gosh, I sure hope Ms. L was right about the Cats going to the Final 4!

you could use a little bite from the maturity bug yourself there pal.
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:45 pm
LesMiles gives thanksgiving prayers that he doesn’t have to play in Commonwealth until 2011…
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:51 pm
In the Old Testament when someone claimed to be a prophet and yet missed a prediction he/she was stoned to death. The gift of prophecy was not to be taken lightly.
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:51 pm
#20 I am upset about Legion leaving and I agree I believe it is a direct result of him doing what his mother wants. However, I guarantee if our crazy UK fans continue to bash his mom it will only make us look worse. Just let him and her go and we will move on.
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:52 pm
#23, you could also use a little bite from the maturity bug yourself there pal. Your opinion is noted; not accurate, but noted…as is mine in your mind as well i’m sure.
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:53 pm
Go to the previous thread “A Tough Night of News” and you can see 2 articles I snagged for a small fee from the Detroit News archive - thanks to shamswayfor the link (a poster here). The articles give some insight into some of the history of our boy Alex Legion. I wish I knew his definition of commitment beforehand. Posts #104 and #107.
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:55 pm
#26, it’s not crazy to bash someone who claims to be a prophet of God. that is ridiculous and pathetic.
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:56 pm
#28 by the end of the week he will have transferred to 3 different schools and then changed his mind.
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:57 pm
I wasnt saying you were crazy for bashing his mom. I am the LEAST religious person you will ever meet but I cannot see how bashing her makes UK fans look good. We will just get more negative press towards our fans.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:02 am
it’s impossible to get more negative press for UK fans…that’s not possible. we have Dickie V and ESPN to do that by nature. i just find it very insulting to humanity for someone to actually THINK/CLAIM that they are a prophet…that’s just very silly and ridiculous. And standing up at a game saying what she did –”i guess we need to find somewhere else to play”–come on…seriously, find I-65 and hit the road.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:04 am
I actually feel sorry for Legion. SOunds like he is a good kid but his mother has entirely too much influence on him. I cant imagine him staying here if his mom didnt want him too even if he wanted to stay.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:06 am
He’s gone. Great. Next!!
December 4th, 2007 at 12:07 am
Any chance Coach G is ever going to stop playing Coury so damn much?
December 4th, 2007 at 12:07 am
Despite the fact that lady is nuttier than squirrel sh!t, this is not good. What effect does Legion have on other freshman or incoming recruits? I don’t like this. What is the problem here?
December 4th, 2007 at 12:08 am
He’s someone elses problem now. Rememeber, we still have Bradley. Let’s focus.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:09 am
37) We still have Bradley? And you think that’s a positive?
He turned the ball over four times while I was typing this!
December 4th, 2007 at 12:10 am
lesmiles…thats awesome that you find it ridiculous. so do we. now show your maturity and shut up about it. win by being silent. or atleast tie by not making yourself look like a jackass hick.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:10 am
if Patterson now goes into a slump, we’ll know his inspired play early on was solely due to the “holy oil” she put in his shoes.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:11 am
No, I’m saying we still have problems (Bradley). Let’s focus on them.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:12 am
that’s why i don’t feel sorry for him. he’s LETTING her have this influence on him. if the real reason IS because of his mothers desires; he should have enough common sense and man in him to stand up for himself and do what he knows is right. he’s a good player but NOT a great one yet and is in no way shape or form NBA material and won’t be for years i don’t think. his defense is really bad thus far from what i’ve seen and he’s not an outstanding shooting guard yet. now if there is another reason, then i completely respect it and understand; lack of playing time, things not turning out like he wanted…i get it; i can respect that…but this early on???
is the work too hard?? if so then he is gonna have a heck of a wake up call later in life because right now he’s in the best health he’ll ever be in and the door is open with nothing closing it; except for the prophet it looks like. yea, if the reason really is his mother, i don’t feel sorry for him…that really is childish and UK is no place for a child.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:13 am
That should be a rip roaster of a bowl game.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:13 am
41) Sorry! Glad to see we’re on the same page…
December 4th, 2007 at 12:15 am
let the quitter leave, we don’t need him.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:17 am
this is exactly why we don’t need scotty hopson. he’s a puppet like legion, and mommy’s pulling the strings. “DANCE PUPPET DANCE, NOW TOY WITH RICK STANSBURY’S EMOTIONS.”
December 4th, 2007 at 12:19 am
roseydaddy, this is a blog filled with opinions and part of a blog is finding humor in posts, or thinking they are ridiculous. the bottom line though is don’t attack the person making the post. i find a lot of the things i read ridiculous that others post (even though it’s just my opinion), but i don’t just call the person out like you do obviuosly. so why don’t you take your own advice and shut up and don’t call me out? if not i will continue to respond to your opinions of my posts. “jackass hick”…nice, very nice. turn the other cheek if you dont’ like opinions, or get out or something. but keep calling me out and i’ll do the same to you. you called me out, and since you are so mature, i’m sure you’ll refrain from replying to this correct? so as to not make yourself look like a jackass hick!? hipocracy always wins correct?
December 4th, 2007 at 12:22 am
As a missionary, stories like this upset me. I get frustrated by the people like Alex mother who have taken Christianity and turned it into this by ignoring the Bible and truth. This twisted emotion based belief system leads to people doing and saying whatever they want to say in the name of the Bible. No wonder the kid has his life run by his mother.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:23 am
Why can’t people lay off the guy and his mom? We all have ways we were brought up that don’t match with other people. Whatever makes him and his family happy is what he should be doing, and we should all be happy with that. Otherwise, you sound like an bitter and selfish old man. Have some class as fans.
Everyone should read the article #17 posted.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:26 am
49) because i’m a prophet and i have predicted that we would have won the national championship WITH Alex and now that he’s gone he has ruined my prophetic plan : ) “awaiting comment fromroseysdaddy” –lol. the article is good and shows that Alex most likely doesn’t have what it takes to excel under BG, especially with a prophet as a mother though!!
December 4th, 2007 at 12:31 am
50) If the situation with Alex and his mom is really as its being interpreted, it would make more sense to me feel sorry for Alex/his mom, and not really making fun or ridiculing them.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:35 am
#48 Well Said.
This is a great example of how parents need to let their kids go off to college and grow up. Is Ms. L is still trying to do what’s best for her son, or her and the rest of the family?
December 4th, 2007 at 12:35 am
This kid could have been a great player for UK. If his mom is a lunatic or not doesn’t take away the fact that he didn’t think he was going to get a fair shake. I for one say I can’t blame him. By no means is Porter a shut down defender that makes up for his poor decision making, with Legion getting no mins. when he is 2 times the player Porter is.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:38 am
I’m so glad everyone on here knows the whole situation and what the best thing for the team is based on knowing every detail of everything the players do in life, practice, and games.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:41 am
lesmiles….go ahead, but let me get this straight, and please, tell me where i am wrong with this analysis…
1)you call a woman, who honestly believes she is of ‘the faith’, a “freak bit**” and a “frigg’n lunatic wacko female”
2)I “call you out on it”
3)So now you’re going to call me out on calling you out?
good call.
and by the way, the correct word would have been ‘irony’ not hipocrisy.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:42 am
Well if he wasnt doing what he needed to do in practice then I guess you’re not going to play, doesn’t matter who you are. But that is ridiculous that Billy Clyde has let his first recruit get away because of not playing him. I mean come on, Porter over Legion? What was Billy thinking? I’m already disagreeing a lot with him and this is a huge blow to the team with Meeks and Jasper out. UK will be lucky to win 10 games this year. This season is gonna suck.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:44 am
But on the other hand, college isnt high school ball. And no doubt his mom is right about her son being a good player, but there is a major difference between the two. Well, Legion had his head in the clouds anyway saying he was only goin to be at college for two years anyway. I dont know, maybe in a way we are better off if he is all about me. But I can see his point too when you got players like Porter playing way more minutes than you.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:44 am
51) Again, i appreciate that OPINION…..but it is just that, an opinion. there are those of us though who realize just how insane it is (if it’s true that she thinks she’s a prophet). and no, it is your OPINION that it would make more sense to feel sorry for them; that is NOT a fact. feeling sorry for someone like that does not achieve anything; and yes of course ridiculing them doesn’t either. (see my post above about how this is a blog and how you’ll read things you don’t agree with)
do you think if i feel sorry enough for them that God will reveal to his mother that she’s not a prophet? : )
sorry chief, feeling sorry is just an option, it’s not right or wrong and won’t solve or hurt anything; however i respect that opinion YET I won’t tell you what YOU should think about it ; ) i’ll just tell you i don’t agree and why i don’t agree, but won’t slander you as a poster initially.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:51 am
just a thought, but at his current rate, if pat-pat stays for four years and UK averages 33 games a year, he will pass dan issel for all time leading scorer. granted issel didn’t play for four years, but lets not nit-pick.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:53 am
roseydaddy, it’s actually quite simple. the post was not about YOU my friend. however your reaction WAS about me..and i quote:
“you could use a little bite from the maturity bug yourself there pal.”
that was an arrogant and foolish statement. again, this is a blog, NOT about you and I, it’s about the subject at hand..Alex, his mother, and her “prophetness”. perhaps you missed the picture at top.
it was hipocritic in nature to make your response. “maturity” and common sense should have led you to not call out a poster for making his/her opinion on a subject. when i posted my opinion on this subject matter i didn’t say, “hey roseydaddy, please tell me i’m immature”. you could have just as easily disagreed with me and let it go, however you chose not to.
good call!!
December 4th, 2007 at 12:54 am
also let me say that i do not expect patterson to stay four years. we’ll be lucky if he ever calls himself a junior.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:55 am
Is it me, or does two players leaving already kinda look bad. Makes me wonder what the crap is goin on. But when thinkin of the past, Rodrick Rhodes transferred so maybe players with big heads just arent good for coaches like Pitino and Gillispie. Plus, sounds like it was all on his mom thinkin her son is God’s gift and should be playin every minute. But was she there at practice? But I’m sure that wouldnt matter to her. By the way, how do you not know that Kentucky is a basketball school? Does she live in her own little box or somethin?
December 4th, 2007 at 12:56 am
A great coach should be able to motivate his players to want to give 100%.
December 4th, 2007 at 1:01 am
C’mon, folks. Tease, but don’t be derogatory. I cracked the “holy oil” jokes today, but I do respect Annette, Alex, their beliefs and their decision today.
December 4th, 2007 at 1:01 am
53) I’m pretty sure Alex was averaging 17 min a game, started 2 out of 6 games, and only sat on saturday due to his conference with BCG on friday concerning his possible transfer. I hardly think that’s called not getting “a fair shake” as a freshman at UK, especially considering he’s behind 2 seniors. He’s had his opportunities, and obviously he didn’t perform, or, as BCG had noted when Meeks got hurt, “stepped up.” If that means his mother thinks that divine intervention should direct him elsewhere, so be it. We’ll have people to replace him. There’s nothing Legion would have done before Meeks gets back healthy that would have made this a HUGE loss. A loss, yes, but he is replaceable. Coach has proven he can go recruit other people, and he will.
December 4th, 2007 at 1:08 am
He didn’t perform? He was one of the few bright spots this team had. He was behind Porter, not two seniors at least while Meeks is out.
December 4th, 2007 at 1:08 am
I know Meeks is not a senior.
December 4th, 2007 at 1:11 am
BTW 24,000 at Rupp seemed to think he was performing better than Porter. I know fans don’t coach the team, but wow just wow!!!
December 4th, 2007 at 2:47 am
I think everyone should have read what post #26 said but we are a little past that now, hope mine is the last post. We have nothing to gain by bashing either of them, lots of people have different religions and some of them may think they are more impotant to the scheme of life than they are (not us!) I don’t think she will be planting any bombs so I can live with that. And finally we have a kid that seems to listen to his mom and some want to bash him for that. I mostly feel sorry for the kid and hope he overcomes some of the trauma he has to be going through, I’m sure he would just like to be able to concentrate on playing ball whereever it is.

THERE ARE SOME IDIOTS ON THIS BLOG.

#12 you aint no pastor yous a HATER!! I am the real prophet you are just for profit….
December 4th, 2007 at 2:37 pm
Thats the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard… Now I completely understand why he’s transferring… His mother just thinks about something and then it becomes the word of God… I’m pretty sure the Good Lord does not stop everything to help Momma Legion figure out something as trivial as her son’s playing time.
He was meant to go to Michigan, then he was meant to go to UK, where they’d go to a final four? Then suddenly he’s meant to transfer… theres a difference between prophets and people that think God wokrs in a way in which every thought you have is God’s wishes… its not God’s will for Alex Legion to transfer.. its the will of an impatient mother who thinks if things aren’t going her way then God must be ttelling her to go elsewhere…
I just stubbed my toe, so God must be telling me that I should get rid of this desk… I forsee a new desk, with shelfs ten feet high and a mini bar underneath… it must be the word of God now.
December 4th, 2007 at 3:11 pm
I think that #69 was Alex Legion himself posing as a blogger! LOL!
74- You crack me up! I totally agree with you too!
December 4th, 2007 at 5:27 pm
He must not really love the game of basketball. If I was a freshman at a major university there is no way I could possibly hate a coach or a program enough to sit out a whole year watching everybody play and practice. All I can say is he must not really love the game of basketball. I want the guys at kentucky who truly love to play the game. The only reason players like Legion and Hopson play is to make money in the NBA but not for the love of the game. Hopson wants a coach to lay out a 2 year plan to get him to the NBA or his mom does. Legion was once quoted as saying that he would be at UK for two years and would go pro. I know you have to get the great players but don’t sacrifice your values as a coach to do so.
December 4th, 2007 at 5:36 pm
Now if I were fifty years younger—-No, being a lifelong UK fan through thick and thin and a UK graduate I doubt if I would transfer from UK in any sport even if I were on the very end of the bench. But I also think it is pretty stupid for a lot of the “almost great” football players to sign up to be a reserve for four years at Southern California behind a lot of great players. I would rather be a very big fish in a very small pond, no one ever heard of my MVP’s in flag football which I played into my forties, but I have a lot of great memories.
No, I think the kid has made a big mistake and has some issues (family) that are going to follow him but I think a lot of fans on here are way overboard and aren’t doing our image any good at all. I wish him the best.
December 4th, 2007 at 7:11 pm
Ok me aside any kid who isn’t a fan of any university. You would think that kid who has played bball all his life would love the game too much to sit out a year. I could see it if you were making a jump from a non-major university to a major like Pat Sparks but, you’re not going to get any more national exposure than at Kentucky. That is why I don’t understand the transfer.
December 4th, 2007 at 7:11 pm
plus its not like Legion was rotting on the bench.
