On Patrick Patterson….

by @ 1:49 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

A quick update on the Patrick Patterson situation. A number of websites and now a news agency are all reporting on the possibility that Patrick was taken out of practice and to the hospital yesterday with some type of heart issue. It bears mentioning that these reports, including the one by Rob Bromley on WKYT HAVE NOT been confirmed by anyone at UK. At this point, UK has said nothing and likely will be able to say nothing due to privacy health concerns. I did speak this morning with Patrick’s mother who said that she knew nothing of the reports, although she had not spoken to her son today. At this point, all is simply conjecture and the rumors that are running rampant are…..to say the very least….extremely premature. When something is there to report, UK will release it.

    God, I hope he’s ok

  2. B.A. Barracus Says:

i love rumors… like i’m in high school all over again

  3. someone Says:

    really hope he is ok

  4. Patrick Patterson's Cardiologist Says:

Jesus, Billy G! What did you do this kid?

Hey…you’re looking a little “Tubby” yourself. Better lay off the Dr. Pepper. Switch to Diet Dr. Pepper–tastes more like regular Dr. Pepper (more than what, I don’t know).

  5. UKChrisb Says:

#2 why would you love a rumor like that????????????????????
I just hope he is okay…….

  6. yo Says:

Hopefully, they got him to the hospital before anytime bad happened.

  7. bigb420 Says:

everybody just take a moment out of their busy lives to say a prayer for this young man, everything is a distant second compared to your health.

  8. '69Z Says:

It’s hard to believe anything serious is going on if his mother doesn’t know about it.

  9. Crunkie Brewster Says:

He is ok, he just had to take a gigantic poop. IHOP harvest grain pancakes are nothing to take lightly.

  10. catfaninsbca Says:

Thanks Matt, I kind of feel sorry for the UK players… actually, I feel sorry for our opponents coming up. They might outscore us a few times, but I seriously doubt they’ll out run us!

  11. uofkcats Says:

How could something that serious happen with out his Mom knowing
about it? Again, how do rumors like that start and there not be some
kind of truth that lead to the rumors?

I bet either Patrick went to the hospital for a minor injury which
as nothing to do with his heart or he may have gone to the hospital
just as precautionary and probaby isn’t that serious.

My prayers go out to Patrick. Acutally I pray for every UK basketball
player everyday but this time I will pray about Patrick’s safe health
and not that he become a All-American this year.

#10 you are so right. UK might lose some games but we been lossing for
a few years now. At least now UK won’t lose without going down with a
    fight.

  12. Anonymous Says:

Well leave it to Maggard to start a RUMOR MILL about Pat. WKYT Probably got their info from Marc Mag.

I Refuse to believe Pat is in a health crisis until it’s POSITIVE From a RELIABLE UK SOURCE.

    I HATE RUMOR MILL JOURNALISM.

  13. DavenderCat: The Sequel Says:

If this story is false or if it was something not heart-related, then this “reporter” needs to be beaten with a sack of nickels.

  14. Anonymous Says:

#11 UK lost 40 games the past 5 years. It’s among the 5 (or so) LOWEST loss totals in Div I during that timeframe.

Likewise 83 L the past 10 years. Also among the 5 (or so) LOWEST loss total in Div I during that timeframe.

    Oh.

  15. BoonevilleCat Says:

Kind of off topic, but wasn’t Marc Maggard a contributor to this blog for a short time back in the Spring? Did he and Matt Jones have a falling out of some sort?

  16. Big Blue for Life Says:

#16, for that matter what ever happened to the contributions of Ravi Moss?

  17. MarcMaggard Says:

12…. You are a moron. I have been silent about this story UNTIL the other sites started reporting it. I don’t think things like this should be posted and we’ve been moving them off of Ky Ink’s site…..I JUST NOW commented on the situation in hopes people will move on. PPat did get checked out, but he has a perfectly fine heart….it’s a non story.

    mm

  18. uofkcats Says:

#14 It’s been bad. The thing that kills me is that alot of those
losses are losses UK could have won if:

    1) If UK played just a little more tougher

    2) If Tubby put his players in a position to best utilize
    their talents.

    3) If Tubby just have tought his players to have discipline on
    and off the court.

The years that UK got beat by UAB and Marquette where games that
players like Hawkins had mental let downs, due to the fact that
they had no discipline. Those two years could have turned Tubby from
    a goat into a Legend.

Here is what has been killing me latley. How come Woo is good enough
to make an NBA team but at Kentucky he was a joke? It isn’t like he
just got that much better in 5 months. That the perfect example of Tubby’s
lack of coaching ability. Woo didn’t waste his time at UK, Tubby wasted
Woo’s talents while he was at UK.

  19. uofkcats Says:

Why is there a battle between MM fans and Jone Fans?

Both sites are very good and fee.

They are not just new sites but sites that give us UK fans what
we want. Which is updated rumors so we can try to figure out what
is going on. It is meant to be a hit and miss senerio.

If you just want simple facts go to ESPN or Foxsports.

If you want the latest rumors and possibilites, go to KSRadio and KI.

Both do a very excellent job for what they are offering. They don’t
hide the fact that they will hit big on some rumors and totally miss
on others. They are upfront so if you don’t like it, then don’t go to
    them.

Me personally I want the latest. It is fun to try to piece together
this and that, and try to guess what will happen.

    Good job Matt and MM

  20. Kyle Mann Says:

#19 I agree about 2003 and 2004, except I think they contradict your argument. Those seasons alone were examples of Tubby’s coaching ability. What he did with Erik Daniels was nothing short of amazing. I think the only example you gave that was credible was Cliff Hawkins.

I can tell you exactly what happened in both of those games.

    a) Marquette played their best basketball BY FAR on that day.
    b) Dwayne Wade is not a human being.
    c) Huge mental let-down from our leader getting hurt.
d)) Robert Jackson, Steve Novak and Travis Diener played out of their ever-lovin’ minds.
    e) UAB played better than we did.
    f) Our guys choked.
    g) Cliff Hawkins got into a macho-man contest with UAB’s Squeaky Johnson.

Bad coaching only contributed to MAYBE two of those. And I think that’s being critical.

    Bad coaching

  21. Kyle Mann Says:

    Correction, that was to #18.

  22. boweevul Says:

    19. Woo is tall. NBA takes chances on tall players. You yourself said “it isn’t like he just got that much better in 5 months”. No, he didn’t.

I liked Woo, don’t get me wrong. He was a good kid. Yes, he had a decent mid range jumper. Yes, he hustled. Yes, he said all the right things. He was, and is, slow of foot, not sure how to play the game, and non-athletic.

Time will tell if he sticks with the Pacers or in the NBA at all. If he does stick, he will play about 3 min. per game, and average something like .8 PPG and .5 RPG.

You have to have talent for it to be wasted.

  23. boweevul Says:

#24 oops me too, repy to #18

  24. Beatle Bum Says:

How could this have happened yesterday and his mother not have been informed???

    (rhetorical)

  25. '69Z Says:

It obviously wasn’t that serious. It could have been a million different things most of which he wouldn’t call his mother about.

  26. Cheryl Says:

Per the UK website, Patrick was dianogised with a upper respiratory infection and will be fine. So much for all the rumors.

  27. '69Z Says:

    Thanks Cheryl.

  28. SoCal Cat Says:

#27, right. And Maggard just reported on Kentucky Ink that everything is fine with him.

    It’s all good.

  29. Larry Redmon Says:

    #28 Maggard=Gospel

  30. drmarc Says:

“UK freshman basketball player Patrick Patterson was treated at UK Hospital Monday for what is described as an upper respiratory infection.

LEX 18 has learned that Patterson, a 6-9 forward considered as one of new coach Billy Gillispie’s biggest off-season pickups, felt discomfort in his upper abdominal region Monday afternoon. He was treated and released.

Patterson’s mother, Tywanna, told WSAZ-TV that doctors told Patrick he has an upper respiratory viral infection and that he’ll need medication and a couple of days rest. Mrs. Patterson said Patrick told her he would probably be out of practice until Thursday.

A University of Kentucky spokesperson says an internet website report that Patterson had complained of chest pains and had received an EKG was erroneous.”

  31. Anonymous Says:

#22 They are taking a chance alright

  32. DavenderCat: The Sequel Says:

    Where’s my nickels?

  33. Todd Harris Says:

Matt Jones, you’re a fricken DEAD MAN if I see you at Johnny Bruce’s tailgate!!!

  34. ukwildcat23 Says:

I can’t believe he called Patterson’s mom lol. He could’ve made that poor woman have a heart attack. She hadn’t even heard anything yet lol. geez

  35. boweevul Says:

In related news, I stubbed my toe this morning when arising after a hard night of drinking. After multiple ER tests and x-rays, the doctors have assured my mother I will live.

Please rest easy. Film at 11:00. Now back to your local broadcast.

    Jeez.

  36. Anonymous Says:

Why does Marc Maggard stay on other sites more than his own ?

They guy post every where he can get a little fame!

  37. boweevul Says:

#36 you too! Seems like I see more posts from Anonymous than from anybody. You sure get around!

  38. Dustin Says:

Thank GOD. I’d hate to see even a Louisville player have a heart condition let alone one of our beloved Cats

  39. Anonymous Says:

I’m sure Maggard is paranoid as a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs, the guy hits every UK message board out there!

I Have no reason for being paranoid, I’m not the rumor monster! Marc Maggot is !

  40. #36 and #39 are whore bait Says:

Marc’s a UK fan, meaning he can post wherever the hell he wants and not JUST at his site. Can ya really blame him for coming over here and smacking ya in the mouth when ya start crap with him? I mean it’s not like he doesn’t read multiple boards like most fans.

    Damn moron.

  41. Anonymous Says:

You got your ass scooped by Rob Bromley Today!!!!!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAH

  42. JO JO Says:
