[Moderated by Matt Jones]

I just spoke with Rotnei Clarke’s father who told me that Clarke will not be making a visit to Midnight Madness in a few weeks. Instead, it appears the recruitment may be over. “I spoke with Coach Gillispie and we both agreed it would be better for us to part ways.” According to Mr. Clarke, Gillispie was interested in getting a decision relatively quick from Clarke and Rotnei was not ready at this point. Thus after a long conversation, both agreed that it was in each other’s best interests to part company. Thus Rotnei will not end up at UK and according to Mr. Clarke, in response to my question if the recruitment was now over, he said, “Yes it is.” So there you go…..Rotnei, we hardly knew ya…..

Numero uno!!!
September 25th, 2007 at 10:47 pm
say it ain’t so, Joe…
September 25th, 2007 at 10:48 pm
Sad news…I really wanted Clarke…a great shooter and what seems like a great personality to match…best of luck Rotnei wherever you end up!
September 25th, 2007 at 10:50 pm
So it looks like Gillispie wasn’t to high on this kid anymore.
I trust Gillispie.
What ever will Gillispie do to replace him?
Gillispie needs to go out and get a 5 star or 4 star 6′6 athletic guard.
Oh he already did, Liggins and Miller.
I bet we never hear about Clarke ever again and I bet we never get beat by Clarke.
Now lets get back to buisness and find that BIG MAN WE NEED
September 25th, 2007 at 10:51 pm
Based on what I had heard out of the Arkansas game (where he was a visitor on Friday night) he wasn’t going to leave the Ok-Ark area anyway. Similarly, he didn’t like that we were recruiting other players at his position. I see him staying very close to home and wouldn’t be suprised (as much as it would have shocked me months ago) to see him at Oral Roberts. Oh well, best of luck kid.
September 25th, 2007 at 10:53 pm
Go after Singleton, Jennings, Monroe, Morgan, Hamga, and Fortson with that last scholly
the good news is maybe because billy g was rushing him because he is close to a commitment with someone else!
September 25th, 2007 at 10:53 pm
Rotnei isn’t ready to make a commit, but his recruiting is over? HUH?
September 25th, 2007 at 10:55 pm
uofkcats
What about “Gillispie wants a quick decision” makes you believe he wasn’t that high on the kid. Seems like he’s pretty high on the kid if he wants a quick decision. Just didn’t work out. No need to start putting the kid down.
September 25th, 2007 at 10:58 pm
6) Monroe cut UK, UofL and UF off his list a few weeks ago so we can forget about him. He will likely end up at LSU anyways.
September 25th, 2007 at 10:59 pm
I like it. Quit letting kids jerk you around while everyone else commints then
go somewhere else.
September 25th, 2007 at 10:59 pm
Im shocked we didnt get this guy, didnt Maggard guarentee he would be here? Maybe hes not so accurate after all.
September 25th, 2007 at 11:01 pm
Look at it this way, would you rather have a guy like Patrick Sparks or a guy like Jodie Meeks in the backcourt?
September 25th, 2007 at 11:09 pm
Hate to lose Clarke but the guard position is not a weakness .. shooting however may still be a bit .. right now it’s Legion and that’s it as far as great shooters
September 25th, 2007 at 11:11 pm
#8 sorry if you thought I was putting Clarke personally down.
I am saying from a athletic basketball stand point why do we need Clarke?
We have Liggins and Miller. Much better athletes and basketball players at this stage
of the game.
September 25th, 2007 at 11:11 pm
BG needs to find a big guy. A good big guy. Not many left.
September 25th, 2007 at 11:12 pm
exactly right number 10. i’m tired of being strung along.
September 25th, 2007 at 11:15 pm
Defence is a must in the recruiting trail. Clarke is a good shooter but with the shooter’s we have we need some big fellows inside and some defence. Defence wins games.
September 25th, 2007 at 11:17 pm
Im fine with this. I think its exactly the right move. Clarke is a nice piece to the puzzle, but we cant spend valuable time and resources to bring someone like that in. Move on to the next fish. Hopefully this will lure another point here. We need shooting at the guard position, but we also need a playmaker and quickness
September 25th, 2007 at 11:20 pm
#8 with regards to you saying that it is obivious that Gillispie did
want him or he wouldn’t have ask him for a quick decision. You can’t just
pull a kids offer after you already given him one. If Gillispie was high
on this kid still then why would he tell him it is time to part ways.
Asking Clarke to decided was more than likely Gillispie’s way of saying, since I
did offer I will take accept it if you committ now but if now I am sorry.
Now Gillispie doesn’t look like a jerk. You don’t want other recruites thinking
that if Gillispie offers he might just take it away. You want recruites to feel speical.
This way Gillispie sends a message. If UK wants offers to you we want you but if you wait to
long it will be your lose not UKs.
GO BIG BLUE
GO GILLISPIE
GO RICH BROOKS
September 25th, 2007 at 11:22 pm
Just becuase he asked for a quick decision doesnt mean he was really going hard after the kid. He could have known what the outcome of doing that would be so he used it as a way to basically break up and end the recruitment, so going out the door it doesnt seem like he dropped Rontei but that he wanted him but couldnt wait on him. Thats how i see it.
September 25th, 2007 at 11:22 pm
good, i knew with miller he was out of the picture!
September 25th, 2007 at 11:25 pm
I’m very happy with this move, Coach G needed to move in another direction and did not have the luxury of time needed to wait. The man knows what he’s doing, I have complete faith and trust he made the best decision.
Now let’s go find a big man, Jennings, Morgan or Singleton, Come on down!
September 25th, 2007 at 11:27 pm
Beating Louisville in football- so easy a caveman can do it.
September 25th, 2007 at 11:29 pm
HOW ABOUT THAT WILDCAT FOOTBALL TEAM!!!!
GO BIG BLUE
GO RICH BROOKS

NOW IT IS TIME TO TAKE CARE OF FAU GO GET EM BOYS
September 25th, 2007 at 11:38 pm
UK has PG commitments in 2008 (Liggins), 2009 (Vilarino), and 2010 (Ross-Miller) on the board.
September 25th, 2007 at 11:39 pm
I like Clarke, and I wish him well. Kentucky dont need him we need a big period. Some of you think we need shooters. I think we are just fine with Meeks a real good outside shoot, and Legion good also, and Porter, and Miller isnt bad or Liggens. We need some inside help if we are going to go deep into the playoffs. GO BIG BLUE GO BILLY CLYDE and GO RICH BROOKS.
September 25th, 2007 at 11:51 pm
#25 don’t forget Darius Miller 2008.
not to mention Gillispie is trying to get Trae Golden 2010
which I absolutley want at UK.
#26 Great points but to add to that. With all the athletes Coach is getting
could Clarke even keep up with them when it comes to speed and quickness?
Is it worth the risk? I guess not.
Great job Coach Gillispie
Freakin Awesome job Coach Brooks
GO BIG BLUE
September 25th, 2007 at 11:55 pm
This sucks…
But we will move on
September 25th, 2007 at 11:56 pm
It is obvious we have come very far in elevating the uk football fan base, I can’t recall a time when people were posting football stuff on a basketballrelated story, I am loving it!!!!!!!!
September 25th, 2007 at 11:57 pm
i was #29, i left my name off for some reason
September 26th, 2007 at 12:02 am
I still like Fortson better if we don’t get a big man
September 26th, 2007 at 12:02 am
He who hesitates is not necessarily lost, but he may lose he free ride at UK.
September 26th, 2007 at 12:04 am
I just had another circle jerk with my
dad, and my brother.
September 26th, 2007 at 12:06 am
We will not get Fortson.
We dont get Clarke that means NO other PG’s..
The rest of the rides will go to big men
September 26th, 2007 at 12:06 am
Clarke is a good player, but not exactly a huge loss. We’re stacked at PG and need some post players. I wish Rotnei the best of luck in college…unless he’s playing against UK.
September 26th, 2007 at 12:14 am
33. Everyone knows that is you kyone- u stupid ass.
September 26th, 2007 at 12:19 am
#11… No, no he didn’t. He at times in the recruitment said we were the most likely but things change.
September 26th, 2007 at 12:21 am
GO KENTUCKY FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MORE FOOTBALL. These guys are up to something special. If our fanbase can’t go insane for this team- then we don’t deserve a football team of this caliber. I hope our fanbase floods every away game we can this season. Go get em’ CATS.
September 26th, 2007 at 12:35 am
Just need to go after Singleton and Jennings hard. Those are the two players we could really use. Don’t need more guards, we are fine at guard.
September 26th, 2007 at 12:42 am
Jennings/Singleton would be unbelievable… With that said, where’s our Jennings info? Maybe it was on the show and I missed it. If not I guess I get what I pay for so I’m not complaining at all.
September 26th, 2007 at 12:54 am
say it aint so
September 26th, 2007 at 1:03 am
SEE YA!
19… great post, exactly right.
September 26th, 2007 at 1:04 am
good news
September 26th, 2007 at 1:05 am
#11… no Marc never guaranteed anything. As a matter of fact, that’s the statement Marc hangs his hat on. He doesn’t guarantee or predict anything. He did, however, at many times indicate that UK was the leader for Clarke according to conversations he’d had with Rotnei and his father directly. But as you and anyone else should know… recruiting changes every day. G wanted a commitment and Clarke wasnt’ ready to give it so it’s time to move on.
September 26th, 2007 at 1:07 am
Ah, ble, ble, ble, that’s all folks!
September 26th, 2007 at 1:17 am
that line just played in my head and i laughed out loud,, nice
September 26th, 2007 at 1:22 am
…and somewhere Jon Hood and John Jenkins are clapping at the news Clarke isn’t coming and Legion plans on two years before the Association!
September 26th, 2007 at 1:26 am
47– it is JACOB Jenkins.. not John
September 26th, 2007 at 1:36 am
Greg Mon-roe! Greg Mon-roe!
September 26th, 2007 at 1:40 am
6, are you retarded? Fortson has already selected another school, Monroe has cut Uk from the list and Hamga is going to UNLV.
September 26th, 2007 at 1:44 am
#22, Singleton is not a PF or C, he is a SF. He plays on the wing mainly.
September 26th, 2007 at 1:46 am
Correct. Singleton is in the mode of Walter McCarty - a big SF
September 26th, 2007 at 1:47 am
#50
Hamga has not yet enrolled at UNLV - he has not been given academic clearance by the NCAA yet
September 26th, 2007 at 2:59 am
no big loss, if we have a chance at getting jennings, and/or singleton than we just dont have room. Exact same thing happened with Chris Lofton.
September 26th, 2007 at 4:16 am
Coach G. didn’t pull the offer, He just informed the Clarkes that it was about to expire. This is no big deal. Now,If the previous coach was here,it would be devastating, but not anymore!!!
September 26th, 2007 at 4:28 am
Kiss my ass. I make no guarantees. I post what I hear you ass. I’m tired of you punks running my good name through the mud. I’m a good guy. I’m just trying to harrass young boys to make a buck off of them. Leave me alone.
September 26th, 2007 at 4:29 am
Screw the previous coach. I’m taking him back with me to hell. Thou shalt not run the Big Blue into the ground. He must pay.
September 26th, 2007 at 6:03 am
Wow, so quick to judge. I for one wanted Clarke more than anyone! If he ends up at Arkansas with John Pelphrey, we will see him for 4 straight years. Some of you are idiots! Gillispie wanted this kid, but he wanted a decision quickly. He also will recruit the best no matter the position, and he will lose some recruits for doing that! Best wishes to Rotnei and his family.
September 26th, 2007 at 6:03 am
scared of a little competition are ye?
September 26th, 2007 at 6:24 am
Competition is good!
September 26th, 2007 at 6:38 am
This is all on Conley Clarke. Rotnei was all but a Cat and dad didn’t let it happen. Nice job Conley.
September 26th, 2007 at 6:48 am
Gillispie is just doing what is best for the team, and the Clarkes have to do what is best for Rotnei…and I wish him well, he is a great kid. And ya can’t blame Marc for things changing in recruiting…ask anyone, changes seem to happen all the time….hope the kid stays out of the SEC or he will be where he doesn’t want to be…against us.
September 26th, 2007 at 7:30 am
Kudos to Coach G. Based upon what I have read, Clarke is good but not an essential piece to our puzzle. We desperately need a big man. Jennings, Morgan, or Monroe would be very nice. It appears Monroe is out of the picture. I don’t see Clarke anywhere else in the SEC…….not if he wants to win a championship.
September 26th, 2007 at 7:44 am
#61, that is what a parent is supposed to do. Don’t start heaping blame on the family for doing what you would do for your own child if you were in the same situation.
September 26th, 2007 at 7:46 am
There are better guards that we can get. I’ve seen several videos of this kid’s games, and while he is a great shooter, his shocking lack of athleticism caused me to think to myself “what is Coach G doing in recruiting this kid?” I won’t lose any sleep tonight over this divorce. If we are to snag any little guard, I’d rather it be Fortson.
September 26th, 2007 at 7:46 am

September 26th, 2007 at 7:55 am
Are Clarke and Willie Warren cousins?
September 26th, 2007 at 8:02 am
Davido Hobbso is a lock for UK. He’s a South American PG prospect.
September 26th, 2007 at 8:04 am
# 12 you are right on. I agree that we do not need a player that wins us one game and loses 3
September 26th, 2007 at 8:05 am
shoot
September 26th, 2007 at 8:16 am
Damn!!! He is a pure jump shooter. They say he is just as good if not better than Lee Humphrey.
September 26th, 2007 at 8:17 am
Not a great loss. He is a great shooter but sometimes when you are under 6 feet it is hard to get a shoot.
We can do better.
September 26th, 2007 at 8:18 am
This player sounds like a Patrick Sparks clone. Nice player, but I can see him being overmatched defensively by more athletic guards. I’m fine with DeAndre Liggins running the point at UK next year. I just hope he dosen’t have to play center.
September 26th, 2007 at 8:22 am
Well I wanted this killer 3 shooter but Billy G knows what UK needs and I Bet it’s Jennings and Singleton. Fortson is the real deal point guard…he’s fast, strong and a play maker. Only one problem schollys are running out.
September 26th, 2007 at 8:26 am
Travis Ford was a under-sized so that’s no excuse.
September 26th, 2007 at 8:38 am
We needed this kid. Ask Florida if they win it all 2 years in a row without that white boy Humphrey, that slow nonathletic white boy who can do the one thing none of our players can do. SHOOT the friggin ball with any consistency. No lets get a another super athletic non basketball skills type who will look great in the uniform but shoot 28% from 3 and 69% from the line, but man can he dunk.
September 26th, 2007 at 8:39 am
Pat Sparks or Travis Ford or Chris Harrison. Guess it doesn’t matter anymore. Good luck RC, now
it’s time we get a big man. Morgan or Jennings are the only studs left. Jennings is better at this
point, but is probably a one-and-done. Morgan could solidify the middle with Ppat.
September 26th, 2007 at 8:42 am
To bad, I was looking forward to watching Rotnie fill from 30. Good luck to him.
It will be easier to get over him if we land a quality big.
Go Football cats!
September 26th, 2007 at 8:43 am
So Matt… Woo got drafted by the Eastern Kentucky Miners in the 6th round. Making a trip to Pikeville to watch him play?
September 26th, 2007 at 8:44 am
How about that football team
Go get FAU boys
Way to go Rick Brooks
GO BIG BLUE FOOTBALL
September 26th, 2007 at 8:48 am
That sucks that we lost clarke. I really wanted him at UK but we do need a big man more so on with the recruiting .
September 26th, 2007 at 8:55 am
I am assuming that if Gillispie wanted a committment now he has someone that he is about to get to make a committment. Otherwise what would be the rush to make the decision?
I started not to read this morning because it seemed with the successs of the football team that basketball news was gone until Midnight Madness.
I watched the UK-Ark game yesterday and believe Kentucky should have gotten beat. They beat Louisville on a last play and scored a touchdown as the result of a peneltyy on the last play of the first half.
Don’t get me wrong. I think Kentucky is a great offensive team but their defense is bad most of the time. I don’t think that Florida will make the mistakes that L and Ark did.
September 26th, 2007 at 9:02 am
76 you sound a little bitter. How many points did those white boys give up trying to guard the boy that dunks?
I recall Travis Ford could not guard Rose and Rose kept him from scoring very many points.
I haven’t seen Lofton get Tennessee into the final four yet either. And I don’t think that Clarke could have helped Kentucky get to the finals.
September 26th, 2007 at 9:03 am
Pelphrey gets him easy. His granny lives close to school. WE’LL SEE ALOT OF HIM - GOOD LUCK
September 26th, 2007 at 9:05 am
13, I have heard that Legion can shoot. maybe that is just a rumor though. Meeks seemes to be an adequate shooter but not good enough either.
September 26th, 2007 at 9:10 am
shit
September 26th, 2007 at 9:16 am
I wonder if Clark has any tips for longer kickoffs?
September 26th, 2007 at 9:20 am
Too bad, i liked the kid. It’s always nice to have a deadly shooter.
I think BCG really wanted him when it looked like he and Willie Warren may come together. After Liggens commited, that kind of through a Monkey Wrench in things. Now tht Miller has commited also, we really don’t have room on our roster for another guard, and BCG knows that better than anyone. Although it would have been nice to have him, we really need some BIGS.
September 26th, 2007 at 9:21 am
My sources say that RALPH SAMPSON III is a DONE DEAL and that is the reason that Gillispie wanted a decision from Clarke now. Only two and a half weeks until one of the biggest, if not the biggest Midnight Madness shows to ever happen at UK , will come to fruition. Singleton and Sampson are supposed to come to see the festivites. Of course the DONE DEAL is a joke but believe me it could very well happen. A coach usually doesn’t give a recruit an ultimatume like this.
September 26th, 2007 at 9:31 am
Would of been nice to have Clarke sign with UK,but there is no sense in crying over this…am I heartbroken over this…no way…life will go on…there might be someone else that fits this team better than Clarke could…you never can tell.
September 26th, 2007 at 9:36 am
82. Easy killer. You said you have watched these games? Have you been unable to recognize the complete 180 the D does after halftime? Last game did you not realize that both mcfadden and jones had over 100yds rushing in the first half and combined had less than 100 rushing in the second? Their only scores were a safety and special teams. Our special teams is our main weakness. We get no yards on returns and our cover teams have allowed a TD the past two games.
Our offense is stellar, if we put it together right. Running the ball and throwing the ball at the right times, we have all the weapons to get it done. Our D is not BAD, look at the two offenses we have played and the 2 heisman canidates that we beat.
Meanwhile back to the article, Clarke is a good player and would have been great to have. but I am not concerned with this at all, and it seems like it is the best situation for the team and clarke. WE need some bigs, and its all going to be good.
September 26th, 2007 at 9:54 am
Just messin…but maybe Billy wanted Willie…lol
September 26th, 2007 at 9:55 am
It’s weird, but I’m begining to know which of these kids is coming to UK just by looking at their picture. So far I’ve been right on Olek, Rotnei, Jai, and Zeller. For some reason, none of them looked like UK players. Terrance Jennings, however, looks like a UK player to me. If he ends up commiting to BIg Blue there will be not a tear shed for Clarke.
September 26th, 2007 at 10:08 am
Oh well… I was really hoping Rotnei would end up at UK. Time
to move on…I am sure Coach Billy Clyde has plan B, C, D and E
already lined up.
September 26th, 2007 at 10:12 am
93 you’re an idiot. so the four kids who didn’t look like UK players just so happened to drop UK. If they had chosen UK you would still be all over their jocks. Of course Jennings looks like a UK player, he’s grades are too bad to get into any other program. Sounds just like jason parker, who couldn’t get into UNC, but somehow made it into UK.
September 26th, 2007 at 10:19 am
Well - that’s the thing with the high pressure sell. but at least you know where you stand and can move on. honestly though rotnei isn’t one of those kids that’s worth holding a scholly for until the last minute. we will be fine without him. what we need desperately are a big or two.
more basketball recruiting matt. that’s the reason i check in on this sight most days.
September 26th, 2007 at 10:30 am
These are the types of decisions that Tubby was never willing to make. Great move by BCG. Clarke is anice player but he doesn’t fit into our plans…
September 26th, 2007 at 10:30 am
83 anybody can pick out 1 game. How about Sparks at L-ville and I am sure Ford had many great games at UK. Don’t fall for the white boys can’t play D. You are a falling for the no white boy can play D crap. What about Humphrey at UF, he must have played OK D in the tune of 2 titles. You still have to make shots to win.
September 26th, 2007 at 11:08 am
Guess I hear a different drummer. Gillispie was pressuring him for a decision, Gillispie was smart enough to figure out the non-decision was really just a not likely gonna be UK. Every indication that Gillispie wanted him and didn’t get him - but his position is not the top priority. But you never know because kids spin things and sometimes misinterpret situations. Kudos to the small percent of posters who didn’t suddenly decide he sucks because he didn’t choose UK.
September 26th, 2007 at 11:14 am
Anyone heard anything on Landesberg?
September 26th, 2007 at 11:26 am
Isn’t Fortson visiting Arkansas? If Clarke did not like that UK was recruiting others at his position, how can he be happy with Arkansas?
September 26th, 2007 at 11:29 am
Landesberg - UK is not recruiting him - he was a backup for Miller
September 26th, 2007 at 11:46 am
Gracias. Jennings is interesting. According to catspause Lville’s no longer in the picture, although monday it was maryland and lville neck and neck for the lead. He seems like a head case. Not sure if he’d be a good fit… has R Morris tendencies. Singleton seems solid. Any thoughts 102??
September 26th, 2007 at 11:50 am
That really sucks, he would have been a great addition because of his 3 pt skills. But oh well, it’s not like we are thin at that position. And now maybe we could land 2 bigs or something. If he does go to Arkansas, I hope he gets schooled by UK. I think it’s best if he went outside the SEC. I just think it sucks that he seemed to have been all excited about UK and just shoots them down like this. But Gillispie isnt going to wait forever on recruits and I dont blame him. Hopefully the days of waiting until the last moment to sign people are over now that Tubby is gone.
September 26th, 2007 at 11:59 am
Uk doesn’t need him. He’s an unathletic Oklahoma country boy and he’s slow. Plus, he’s white.
September 26th, 2007 at 12:04 pm
Rotnei Clarke is from South America
September 26th, 2007 at 12:05 pm
105. Right on Brother. Fight the Power!
September 26th, 2007 at 12:10 pm
48 - There is a Jacob. I was talking about John.
September 26th, 2007 at 12:19 pm
I knew this tidbit last week.
September 26th, 2007 at 12:49 pm
Oh and of course when UK is in the NC…Rotnei will just have to watch it on TV.
September 26th, 2007 at 12:50 pm
heheh yeah
September 26th, 2007 at 12:51 pm
*Tear* one less underage boy I get to follow around the country to and stalk.
September 26th, 2007 at 12:56 pm
Clarke will go to Gonzaga. He’s meant to play for that kind of team.
September 26th, 2007 at 1:21 pm
[...] to Matt Jones of KentuckySportsRadio .com, the recruitment of Rotnei Clarke is [...]
September 26th, 2007 at 3:02 pm
This is good news for everyone involved. Yes, Clarke can shoot, but with Liggins, Jasper, Porter, Meeks, Miller, and Legion at guard and on the wings, where does he play? Even Lee Humphrey wasn’t a vital part of Florida until later in his career. If Clarke had contributed, it would have likely been later, and by then we will have added Vilarino and Ross-Miller, plus other guards who have not yet committed like Golden or Wall.
September 26th, 2007 at 3:34 pm
113-I am inclined to agree with you, although, I think Pelphry will make a good case at Ark., especially considering his granny lives there.
September 26th, 2007 at 3:45 pm
no more waiting all summer.Take it our leave it is the new thing.
September 26th, 2007 at 3:53 pm
