[Moderated by Matt Jones]

I got an email this morning from my man Etwnappel (who has always been the man on Darius) and I have just gotten off the phone with Darius. There seemed to be a family celebration in the background with the news of the commitment. His dad said that he had committed and that they were very happy and proud of their son. Here are some quotes from Darius:
“I just got off the phone this morning with Coach Gillispie and told him I had committed. He seemed really excited.”
“Yeah Coach Webster was a big part of it. He recruited me the most at Illinois and when he decided to come to Kentucky that really helped. He is a great guy and I like him a lot.”
“Being in the state, I like the idea of playing close to home and for the school in state.”
“Coach Gillispie congratulated me and just told mte that he hopes I continue working hard and he cant wait until I get to Lexington so he can make me better.”

Go Billy G. go
September 7th, 2007 at 9:23 am
Personally I could care less who annouces this type of information first. The most important thing is that he committed and we get a signed LOI when the time comes. Great pickup for BCG and the CATS. As an alum I’m so happy we now have a coach that is as passionate about hoops as we are.
September 7th, 2007 at 9:23 am
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 7th, 2007 at 9:23 am
Dang it, my niece is in his class at MCHS. I was hoping I was the one to break it, but 11th isn’t so bad. YEEEEEEEEEEE
September 7th, 2007 at 9:24 am

September 7th, 2007 at 9:26 am
jds (poster #3) is why people look down on UK fans!!! They think we are all crazy from comments like this the kid committed before his senior of playing basketball begins and we dont think that is soon enough? Some people are unbelievable!
September 7th, 2007 at 9:29 am
Awesome pick up!! Tallest, fastest, best players is what he said!!
LOL!!
September 7th, 2007 at 9:29 am

September 7th, 2007 at 9:30 am
Great news! Now it’s time for Clarke and Singleton.
September 7th, 2007 at 9:31 am
come on down!!!
September 7th, 2007 at 9:32 am
This is great news! Maybe this will start a domino effect and allow G to spend more time recruiting some big men now!
September 7th, 2007 at 9:34 am
Once again Jones proves his site to be the best and most credible. Of course I guess one of his competing sites would say that all recruits lie and you can’t believe them. Only listen to the AAU coaches, right?
September 7th, 2007 at 9:39 am
24, I thought we came to the conclusion you would do us a favor and shoot yourself in the face? You are obsessed with maggard. Get over it.
September 7th, 2007 at 9:41 am
BCG is bringing them in!!!

September 7th, 2007 at 9:49 am

September 7th, 2007 at 9:50 am
Great get Gillispie.
Prediction - with only one scholorship left, Look for someone to
jump on it real quick. Just hope it is a big man and not another guard.
September 7th, 2007 at 9:51 am
#30 The wheel in the sky is still turning! I guess Maysville can reenter kentucky now.
September 7th, 2007 at 9:57 am
Webster’s the man! Either that or he has some em-bare-ass-ing pictures of Miller. j/k, way to go, Darius. Go CATS!!
September 7th, 2007 at 9:57 am
How awesome is this! He has definitely proven the relentless recruiter he is. Congratulations Darius and GO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!
September 7th, 2007 at 9:59 am
38. Should we raid Knoxville and take Sweaty Pearl’s key to the city?
September 7th, 2007 at 10:00 am
This is GREAT news! Not only do we get a (semi) big man, but it’s from a Kentucky boy.
One more scholly left; who will it go to. Hopefully another big get worried and jumps on quick!
September 7th, 2007 at 10:03 am
Wow, did this really happen so quick!? Wow… so thats two 5 stars… who is next?
September 7th, 2007 at 10:03 am
#25- I’ll be sure and treat you like MM. I’ll just believe and do the opposite.
September 7th, 2007 at 10:04 am
THIS IS GREAT!! bcg has done it again, (with a little help from the new assistant)
September 7th, 2007 at 10:04 am
Well it didn’t take the new hire long to earn his keep.
September 7th, 2007 at 10:04 am
So you called the kid at 9 in the morning on a school day? I guess there is no limit in what people will do just so they can get the scoop.
September 7th, 2007 at 10:06 am
Hopson should see the light.
September 7th, 2007 at 10:07 am
#47 where does it say that he called Darius? Ever think Darius might have called? Also what time does Mason County High Start?
September 7th, 2007 at 10:08 am
Would that be envy? You’re here for the information quit complaining.
September 7th, 2007 at 10:08 am
43- D-Mill is a 4-star, but he’s the 7th ranked SF in his class. With Billy G’s coaching, I’m sure it’ll rasie a little bit
September 7th, 2007 at 10:08 am

KC Ross Miller

Gillispie hasn’t been here to even start his first practice.
So who was UKs coach before Gillispie? I forget
September 7th, 2007 at 10:09 am
Now it is time to pullout the impossible and get Greg Monroe.
September 7th, 2007 at 10:11 am
Mason starts a litte after 8, Im sure Miller just couldnt wait to call Matt Jones to announce his decision.
September 7th, 2007 at 10:11 am
okdokie…now lets reel in a biggand and maybe clark..but lets keep the fishing lines for a biggand and we can call er quits fer 08′..but then again keep recruiting if ya want coach…
i feel like doing the worm dance
September 7th, 2007 at 10:14 am
17, lighten up, you put a neg spin on a harmless sigh of relief.
September 7th, 2007 at 10:15 am
We get a guy BG has been on from day one as our #1 recruit and all some of you guys can do is come on here and bash people to further your agendas. You’re really pathetic.
September 7th, 2007 at 10:18 am
Thank youuuuu ‘69Z. Can we just enjoy the moment for once?
September 7th, 2007 at 10:20 am
I wonder if the Miller family “reached out” to Kentucky Ink, too?
September 7th, 2007 at 10:21 am
#55, DL+DM = Monroe bait
September 7th, 2007 at 10:22 am
I bet Senator Craig has “reached out” to Maggard a couple times. Probably old airport stall buddies from way back.
September 7th, 2007 at 10:22 am
So how do you fix a big man problem in actual games with a four
guard lineup? How do you get rebounds playing 4 guards?
Put in this lineup
PG Meeks 6′5
SG Miller 6′6
SF Liggins 6′6
PF Jasper 6′6
C Patterson 6′8
September 7th, 2007 at 10:24 am
sounds good to me 60…they are all suitors…hehehehee
September 7th, 2007 at 10:28 am
this is amazing news! and watching UL last night makes me think UK has more than a puncher’s chance in a week!
September 7th, 2007 at 10:30 am
Sweeeet! A true 3 that can defend, shoot, and rebound! High basketball IQ as well!
September 7th, 2007 at 10:36 am
62, we might throw the Razor in there if he continues to impress people.
September 7th, 2007 at 10:36 am
LUV IT. LUV IT!!! Home state kid, great kid, great player…etc… But WHO we beat out excites me the most. Tenn and Louisville got the smackdown on this one and they are two of our four-five biggest rivals year in and year out.
September 7th, 2007 at 10:37 am
he’s not a 7 footer, but we’ll take him anyway
September 7th, 2007 at 10:37 am
I love when our Billy smacks that other Billy in the face. GO BIG BLUE
September 7th, 2007 at 10:38 am
booyahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
September 7th, 2007 at 10:39 am
Matt, can you re-post that picture of Darius Miller dunking on some poor kid… you’ve had it up before
September 7th, 2007 at 10:44 am
we need a big we need a big we need a big…
hey deandre jordan decommit!!! hehehehe..i so wish we had here in ky than in aggie land…..
saying both are good, do we need a big with meat, or a big that can be lean?
September 7th, 2007 at 10:45 am
71 I agree
September 7th, 2007 at 10:45 am
The two biggest “must-haves” for UK in the last few years & Billy Clyde goes 2-2.
The Brandan Wright scar has finally healed thanks to Colonel Gillispie’s Miracle Cure.
Patterson+Miller+Liggins+Meeks=TNT
September 7th, 2007 at 10:46 am
we still need a center.
September 7th, 2007 at 10:47 am
Crap! I knew I shouldn’t have hired Steve Masiello………….
September 7th, 2007 at 10:49 am
Sweet! The pieces are coming together for something really special.
September 7th, 2007 at 10:49 am
What has Coach done to make you think he won’t get a center? He’s in with quite a few of them. Patience Grasshopper.
September 7th, 2007 at 10:49 am
we dont need a center as bad as everybody thinks. yes, it would be nice to have a 6′10″ guy like we have had, but its not like all of our guards a 6′2″ or anything. we are going to be able to run ANY team in the country out of the gym… oh, and then there is patterson!
September 7th, 2007 at 10:49 am
Yessssssssssssss!!!
September 7th, 2007 at 10:52 am
AT this point, whatever the man does is fine by me. Center or not, I have faith in him to use whatever talent he can amass to win. Often.
September 7th, 2007 at 10:53 am
That is great news…glad to hear he is coming to UK. Welcome
Darius. Our reloading continues….get a big man and we are going
to be right near the top next year.
September 7th, 2007 at 10:55 am
I think a true post player wouldn’t work with the team we have for the next 2-3 years. I don’t think Carter or Williams will ever see anything but mop up duty. What we we need is an athletic combo forward that can compliment the strength of PP, ala Chris Singleton.
September 7th, 2007 at 10:58 am
Excellent way to start off the day! Whooooo hoooooooo!
September 7th, 2007 at 11:00 am
Woooohoooo
Dancin in the streets over here….Ahhhhriiiight
Welcome to the Big Blue Darius…where YOU belong!!!
September 7th, 2007 at 11:00 am
great job bcg!!!
September 7th, 2007 at 11:02 am
Quit stealing info.
September 7th, 2007 at 11:02 am
83 well said but how about ala Greg Monroe. He be the perfect center for us
because he is really PF. Athletic foward that would compliment PP perfectly.
Can you imgain not only the starting line up with Monroe in it but
all the different lineup possibilities/options that Gillispie will have
with his recruitment of 6′5-6′7 athletic combo guards and fowards.
It is possible that in 08-09 season the starting lineup will be.
PG Legion
SG Meeks
SF Harris or Liggins/Miller(give us an extra ball handler), AJ, Jasper take your pick
PF Patterson
C Monroe
How do you think that would compare to 96
PG Epps
SG Anderson
SF Mercer
PF Walker
C McCarty
September 7th, 2007 at 11:02 am
Great!
September 7th, 2007 at 11:05 am
Son of a bitch.
Anybody got Kendall Gill’s number?
September 7th, 2007 at 11:07 am
Good news. Coach Gill can recruit players AND coaches. Excellent. Love to see the kids stay at home.
September 7th, 2007 at 11:08 am
Coach Pitino told me that this kid was in the bag when I drove him and little Stevie to the Clinic to fill that Valtrex prescription. I was hoping he’d come and help us out on Defense. I think Darius could play Defensive Tackle for me. Hey Darius, if you read this why don’t you come on down to the Howard Schnellenberger Football Complex and we’ll give you a tryout.
September 7th, 2007 at 11:12 am
Praise God!
September 7th, 2007 at 11:12 am
I love all this recruting and how great Gillispie is doing.
We all have a right and should be very excited.
But lets not forget that there are players on the team right now and
they are the most important thing right now to UKs future. They win, Gillispie
gets even bettter recruites; they lose, Gillispie starts struggling to land
recruites.
Lets not lose focus and remember that their is a 07-08 year to be played
and these current guys haven’t done much and have alot to prove.
We should be excited because this year will give us a good aspect on
Gillispie’s coach ability and player developoment. This team lost its
best player (Morris) who happen to be a the position we most need. This team
lost another starter and a player with the most mins off the bench (thank God that he is finally gogo
gone). So on paper this team should be worse than last year. Which I don’t think
they will be. So lets get excited about this year and support they players that
are Wildcats.
Oh yeah, we also finally have a football team to excited about. UK is better
this year than they were last (even though this years team might have a worse record)but that
has more to do with the fact we are playing a stronger schedual this year.
However, mark my words - UK football will upset someone and ruin someones year.
I have a question for you UK FANS out there, that I can’t find the answer to.
If UK beats DUHVILLE and Arkansas.
1) When was the last time UK has beaten a top ten team?
2) When was the last time UK has beaten 2 top 25 teams?
3) When was the last time that UK was unbeaten at some point in a season
with two top 25 wins under its belt?
GO BIG BLUE
September 7th, 2007 at 11:16 am
96th!
September 7th, 2007 at 11:20 am
This years team will be better at every position except center. IMO we will be better than last year. But this thread is about Miller commiting. That’s why we’re not worrying about the ‘07-’08 cats here.
September 7th, 2007 at 11:23 am
This rocks. Great news. 83 is right about the combo forward instead of a true center.
September 7th, 2007 at 11:26 am
I am super happy that Darius is so excited…it makes a big difference!!
So he could not wait…lets see, was on campus this past weekend,
word of hiring Webster the other day…and here comes the commit..
gotta love it!!!
Way to go BCG!!! (The Closer)
September 7th, 2007 at 11:27 am
liggins, miller, clark, monroe right it down take a picture i dont give a
September 7th, 2007 at 11:31 am
95- i hear ya, but chill out. we just landed a gi-normous recruit & people are jacked up about it. nobody’s forgetting that there is a season around the corner.
September 7th, 2007 at 11:32 am
Now for a quality big man in the middle.
September 7th, 2007 at 11:32 am
#98 and #83 great points about combo foward. Wasn’t it in 96 when UK
had big men; Walker, McCarty, and Pope. None of them true centers. Pope
kinda was for the college game, like Tyler H is for UNC. However, still more
of a PF type. Walker could played PF but was just as just as good as most
centers in college. I would put Walker at SF over alot of people. McCarty
was a PF but had the skills and shooting ability of a SF. Although he wasn’t
as good as most big time true centers during his time; most schools didn’t
have big time true centers anyways. I still put him at center before I put
big 7′0 guys like Woo, Shegari, Carter, and Williams.
McCarty gives me hope for Stevenson. Eventhough McCarty was an NBA player
who played a long time in the NBA and Stevenson has yet to show that ability; I still
Stevenson can find a way to use his advantages and minimize his disadvantages.
In a up tempo/ fast pace style of play would really benefit Stevenson.
That way he wouldn’t have to get posted up and/or post some else up. He have
more chances to score off a steal and/or get a rebound of a shot off the a steal.
We need another combo foward like Monore and Singleton. That will not only
make UK a big time team again but it will make Stevenson a better player in many ways
and a real threat as a 3rd/4th option at PF/C off the bench.
Stevenson lacks in some skills but not to many people have the guys as
good as Stevenson as a 4th option off the bench.
September 7th, 2007 at 11:34 am
This is awesome news!! Question: does this mean we give up on rotnei in favor of a big? I know we need a big, but I know we all loved his shooting ability…thoughts? Also, anybody else pulling for the Blue Raiders last night?
September 7th, 2007 at 11:34 am
The man hasn’t even coached a season and he is gathering more talent than Tubby over 5 yrs
September 7th, 2007 at 11:35 am
Good job coach!! Its soooooooooooo great to be excited for BBall season again!!
GO CATS!!
September 7th, 2007 at 11:44 am
I reread some of Miller’s comments and this stuck out to me:
“Being in the state, I like the idea of playing close to home and for the school in state”.
Let me add some emphasis: “THE SCHOOL IN STATE”!!!!
Nice to hear Darius echo the opinion of 95% of Kentuckians.
September 7th, 2007 at 11:45 am
haha i know 107, i loved that too!!!!
September 7th, 2007 at 11:48 am
6′6″ small forward, 4 star based on rival, I quest it’s better than a 3 star
September 7th, 2007 at 11:48 am
wow! is there gonna be a message board on this website? i’m tired of the gestapo over on rivals.
September 7th, 2007 at 11:50 am
Liggins and Miller — that’s a great class for 08 already, and it’s not over yet. BCG has been here for like, what, five months? Already he’s signed SEVEN top players! Patterson, Legion, Liggins, Miller, Vilarino, Euton, Ross-Miller… it’s getting scary.

September 7th, 2007 at 11:59 am
They said when he announced he was going to KY that the intercom at his school played the KY fight song. Is that awesome or what!
GO CATS!
September 7th, 2007 at 12:01 pm
who cares who scooped who?? let’s just enjoy the felling of having a hard-working coach & the commitment of a talented kentucky kid!
September 7th, 2007 at 12:01 pm
Ahhh! The sweet sound of “Darius Miller Commits to UK”!!! I’m so thrilled that Gillispie pulled out all the stops to get this KY kid to UK. He fought a hard battle & knew exactly what to do to lure him in. BCG is a mastermind at getting what he wants. I like that! NO, I LOVE THAT! I can’t say often enough how glad I am that we didn’t end up with “the Waffler”. What a great start to my weekend!!!
September 7th, 2007 at 12:01 pm
104….I say ditch Clark and get a combo forward not named Leonard Washington.
September 7th, 2007 at 12:03 pm
117- thats so great! Hopefully we can get back to the place where every kid in Kentucky dreams of the day where he may have the opportunity of playing for the Cats. Signing Darius is a great step in that direction!
September 7th, 2007 at 12:06 pm
I guess this last scholly is going to be a commodity to UK’s other high list recruits. Its not going to be long before we find out who will complete the roster. I think Clarke will pull the trigger before anyone else has a chance. Although you can never tell with BCG– I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that we end up with a commit after a visit this weekend. (And, no, I don’t know of anyone coming to visit, but with a home game & all the entertainment, I wouldn’t be surprised.) What about Sampson? Do y’all still want him?
September 7th, 2007 at 12:08 pm
I don’t really care where Matt gets his info from– he’s trustworthy, relatively accurate, and even if he’s not the first to scoop it– he still informs quickly.
September 7th, 2007 at 12:09 pm
What does this do about the South American guard???
September 7th, 2007 at 12:10 pm
Anybody seen Scott Rigot around?

Kentucky recieved a commitment today from a player named Darius Miller. The player is from Mason County. I think Mason County is in Kentucky. Kentucky is in the United States of America.
This has been Kige Ramsie for Ky Sports Radio.

This could be the biggest week for UK basketball in the last three or four years, and I’ll tell you why. Billy Clyde just completed an UNREAL recruiting team with the three assistants he’s hired. PLUS, adding Webster to the staff gives UK an inside connection to Chicago from where MANY great players come (anybody remember that Walker kid that played for UK?). The future just keeps getting brighter with Billy Clyde in town!
September 7th, 2007 at 3:38 pm
111,they’re not signed yet. Only committed. People who attend MidnightMadness probabley will not get any sleep on that night.

Hey everyone. I just talked with Miller’s Coach Chris O’Hearn a couple hours ago. He had a lot of interesting things to say about Darius, his recruitment, his relationship with Chris Lofton, and what we can expect from Darius in the future. Come check it out! I have the entire interview written out at the CatsZone. For a link, just click on my name. We also have hot FSU cheerleaders, a Kent State in-depth preview, and more!

I read somewhere that someone said that Gillispie’s third assistant would be someone who would bring in a good player with him. Miller was going to Ill until the assistant coach came to Kentucky. I guess.
Gillispie is able to get players at Kentucky that he couldn’t at Aand M.
This is only the start. I remember him saying that he wanted 15 Mac players with 15 more coming in the next year.

I wish Saul Smith was still the coach at UK. Hobbs and the Smiths would be a great team.
Rich Brooks should hire Tubby as his defensive lone coach. He could teach them ball line defense.
