One should likely take ANY “news” tidbit from a blog that is not confirmed with a grain of salt….but this may even be doubly true when the blog is entitled “A Pudge is a Sandwich”. Nevertheless, sometimes news crops from the most unlikely sources, and today that blog is reporting the rumor that the newest assistant may be a Dookie, Rashawn Mcleod. You may remember Mcleod from the 1998 Duke game, where he hit a couple of threes that kept the game close at the end and had a scowl on his face the entire contest. I have no information to say this is or is not true or that there is anything beyond speculation here. But we at this blog live on speculation, so why not this one?

how did bcg find this guy? does he ever sleep?
/
July 1st, 2007 at 12:00 pm
Oh dammit. Anyways, I don’t care, we will take Duke guys, U of L takes our guys, maybe Duke will take U of L guys.
Just as long as COACH stays put for about 20 years….
July 1st, 2007 at 12:00 pm
we know this guy is from “pook”, but from what state? how can he help us?
July 1st, 2007 at 12:10 pm
I was hoping he’d hire a
former UK player like Derek
Anderson.McLeod could be a
spy for Kryjewski, informing
him of every move BCG is
making.
July 1st, 2007 at 12:17 pm
Matt Jones is one thing…But Mcleod is something is a whole other can of worms!!!lol!!
July 1st, 2007 at 12:19 pm
Would like to know about what this guy has been doing sense he left Duke. With all the asst coaches of other programs
that seemed to be interested kind of strange to take this guy unless he has been coaching elsewhere and I just havent heard
of him…
July 1st, 2007 at 12:21 pm
Isn’t McCleod the guy that decked Jeff Sheppard with an elbow?
Not sure about this one.
July 1st, 2007 at 12:24 pm
Duke still sucks… We need to make sure that’s straight… Right Now!!!
Billy, call him back, and if he acknowledges this while being recorded then he can come on board.
Also, is there any footage of Mcleod ever crying as Duke player on public TV? Did he ever cheap shot anyone during a game? Does he have any momento Christian Lattener headbands in his home memorabilia collection case? If so on any of the above, we need to sandbag this immediately!!!
He will never outlive the spy tag. Duke has been treading water lately, they lose Patterson to us, Coach K wants goods on Billy G. This guy is done before he even was considered. Did Barnhart forget to mention to Billy G that Duke sucks major ass (along with UL, UT, UF)?
July 1st, 2007 at 12:24 pm
No seriously,I don’t think I would like that hire.If Johhny Dawkins would stop sucking on coach K’s teeters and get a HC position, maybe they would have room for him on their(Duke) staff.I’m totally against this but I’m for BCG so,GULP go for it!!
July 1st, 2007 at 12:25 pm
Guys…….get past the rivalry. If the guy can coach, then bring him on…..he learned from one of the best coaches ever……yes, we hate Duke and I want to beat the crap out of them and I root for every team that plays against them……but most of us wanted Donovan didn’t we at the beginning of this…….and he just put a 7 straight came whoopin’ on us….to be the best, we want the best….if he is the guy, we need to not worry about those types of things. So far, all is well….let the BCG build his team……
July 1st, 2007 at 12:27 pm
There’s nothing online about this guy. Here’s the only thing I saw: ” The Sixers also got Rashawn McLeod, a scorer who will replace Kukoc’s eight points per game. This guy is not a superstar, but is an adequate replacement and a hard worker.” (this was in a trade with Atlanta Hawks) Apparently he played in the NBA, averaged about 8 ppg. Well, at least the last sentence sounds like something BCG likes~ in reference to Mcleod being a hard worker.
July 1st, 2007 at 12:27 pm
I was searching for an analogy that would exagerate this “former Duke player to coach at UK” and… NONE exists!!!
THIS IS AS BAD A UK BASKETBALL HIRING A FORMER DUKE PLAYER!!! IT’S THAT BAD!!!
July 1st, 2007 at 12:28 pm
I think I’m gonna cry!!!! Ohh by the way remember we microchipped you Rashawn. So we’ll know every recruit you guys target!!!

Hell No!
July 1st, 2007 at 12:36 pm
Wasn’t Rashawn the original Alaskan Assassin? Maybe he could help us recruit out of… Alaska? Oh well, I will always be greatful to him for decking Jeff Sheppard and helping us get a 4 point trip to cut into that lead. That is one of my favorite memories of UK basketball, beating Duke to get to the Final Four.
July 1st, 2007 at 12:37 pm
I am sure that this will be a great hire. He may have been a dukie, but once he walks through the doorways of Rupp he will be a Cat. Coach Clyde will hire talent to enhance the Wildcat coaching staff. I welcome anyone who will help us cut down the nets in the future!
July 1st, 2007 at 12:38 pm
I agree with number 15. We were all ready to take Donovan, why
not a Duke guy? I don’t like it either, but how can you argue
that point? I trust Billy G more than I fear Coach K.
July 1st, 2007 at 12:39 pm
Matt~ You’ve spelled his name incorrectly. Its ROshOwn Mcleod.
That’s why I couldn’t find much on him on the internet.
July 1st, 2007 at 12:40 pm
KC Ross Miller: Well, Kentucky (pause)….and Kentucky, and Kentucky… (we both laugh)…and Texas, Kansas (trails off). At this point, there isn’t a close second.
July 1st, 2007 at 12:40 pm
Damn, I was hoping we would hire DeJuan Wheat.

I don’t care where he played, as long as he can coach, I welcome it..also, maybe he knows Coach K’s philosphy on how to get every single call from the officials…that alone is worth at least 6 extra points per game.
July 1st, 2007 at 12:42 pm
trajon langdon was the alaskan assassin
July 1st, 2007 at 12:43 pm
23) So if this guy was a Dukie, but once he walks through the doorways of Rupp, he will be a Cat. Does that apply to Waltah? Will he be a card now? I sincerely hope not. I may be a little selfish in saying this, but McCarty is my/UK basketball history, not UL’s. I’m guessing that dukie people will feel that way about Mcleod, if this story is true.
July 1st, 2007 at 12:47 pm
Hometown: Jersey City, NJ
High School: St. Anthony
Major: Psychology
Perhaps he would be our entry into the North-East recruiting front.

ANDY! We gotta nip this in the Bud.

Link to a little info on Mcleod. He began his playing career at St. John’s and transferred to Duke in 96. He’s been an assistant coach at some place called Fairfield University, was 20th overallpick in the draft.
July 1st, 2007 at 12:52 pm
Hey Matt, I was in Baltimore over the weekend and was lucky enough to see Aubrey Huff hit for the cycle. But, even more amazing….we went to a bar and they played “Don’t stop believing” and EVERYONE in the bar was singing it at the top of their lungs. I know how it’s your favorite song!
July 1st, 2007 at 12:52 pm
He’s from New Jersey.
http://fairfieldstags.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/092602aaa.html .
He was a transfer from St. John’s.
July 1st, 2007 at 12:56 pm
I’m supposed to hate Louisville and hate Duke. Both these things are becoming extremely hard to do with a UK legend in Lewuhvul and a Duke player in Lexington.
This could be a sign of the apocalypse.
July 1st, 2007 at 1:00 pm
Over the years, there’s been a lot of Dookies that I couldn’t stand, some more prominent than others. I have to admit, McLeod got under my skin just about as bad as any mainly because of that scowl he always had on his face. But I say if he wants to be a Cat, we embrace him until he gives us a reason not to do so.

If you look on page 3 of the Men’s B-ball Guide, Mcleod is not listed as any kind of member of the staff. And that was for the year 2006-2007. He must be doing something else now.
July 1st, 2007 at 1:05 pm
Wonder what Jeff Shepherd thinks about this? Remember, it was McLeod’s forearm that triggered a 4 point trip in that comeback in ‘98
July 1st, 2007 at 1:06 pm
If I were looking to break into college coaching, I would definitely want to work for someone like BCG~ he obviously knows what it takes to reach the D1 level. While he had to start at some meager positions & was a college assistant and coached in high school, once he got to the collegiate level, it really didn’t take him very long to burst onto the scene. He’s highly talented, so if I were Mcleod (& guys like McCarty), I’d go wherever I had to in able to learn from the best. And that includes my biggest rivalry schools (like Duke vs. UK or UK vs. UL).
July 1st, 2007 at 1:07 pm
40) Maybe he’s always been a closet UK fan & wanted to help us get to the line so we could lock the game
July 1st, 2007 at 1:07 pm
Oh no! McCleod was the guy that said our fans where booing Duke in Rupp because we were jealous because Duke would be playing for a championship and UK wouldn’t be in a couple of weeks. Of course, we know how 1998 turned our huh!He also was the one who elbowed Shep for the technical.
July 1st, 2007 at 1:12 pm
Well, this certainly would be ironic.
July 1st, 2007 at 1:33 pm
Just because we hire him dosen’t meen we have to like him!Just respect him as a UK coach.
July 1st, 2007 at 1:37 pm
Gillispie needs a lesson in UK v. Duke before this is ever approved!
July 1st, 2007 at 1:43 pm
Who am I kiding >This is a badCoaching move if it happens!!!!!!
July 1st, 2007 at 1:55 pm
Amazing, we finally have a problem with the coach!! The Tubster would never do such a thing, lets hire Wojo to.
He has connections at st ben’s with hurley, i say good hire, However he is a Pukie!1
July 1st, 2007 at 2:11 pm
46 and 47…..I don’t think BCG gives a rat’s ass about UK vs. Duke….he is a forward thinker…..his slate is clean and he makes decisions based only on what is good for UK NOW!!!! I think we lived in the past too long now………
July 1st, 2007 at 2:14 pm
FYI…Marc Maggard is now reporting that this WILL NOT happen. So, no worries now.
July 1st, 2007 at 3:11 pm
This would be a wonderful hire.
July 1st, 2007 at 9:59 pm
If he’s hired welcome aboard. If Mcleod can help us recruit and win games that’s all that counts. It’ll be his job to do so. If he’s good enough for Billy G he’s good enough for me.
July 2nd, 2007 at 5:42 pm
Smoothron does have the UK in. Thanks for the link homey.
